Good place for a business or for a short stay for friends. Nice rooms, quiet, free parking. Breakfast was good and the staff friendly. Sunday morning was a bit understaffed, the same lady was managing the breakfast room and the reception.
Service was unbelievably rude .If you don't enjoy your dinner ,they send 3 management team members to come into your room and dissect your reasons and meal .Beyond anything I've ever experienced before and I've travelled the world .The views are non existent ,lest I forget the demolished ,empty building the hotel faces .I suggest you'd try another hotel ,granted not many choices .
Good place to stay when you are on business trip to Aarau or surroundings as there is very good train connection to Aarau or Olten. Hotel itself is quite comfortable with nice restaurant. Breakfasts are modest and sufficient but uncompetitive vs other hotels in this area. The coffee is great, thought. Staff is friendly and helpful. One this is worth to mention: during the check in I was provided some cold drink, it was very welcoming. Cleaning service is very good. Bathrooms are in very condition. Nearby the hotel you can find Schönenwerd Abbey build in 11th century. Quite amazing one. Enjoy your stay.
Stayed at the hotel a number of times so far this year. The staff are excellent, very helpful . Especially the two young ladies who do the breakfast each day, I do not speak Swiss or German. Their English was excellent, they made me feel very welcome. Could not fault the hotel or the staff. Top Marks.
I've stayed in a number of hotels in the Aarau area over the years, but Storchen is definitely the best, particularly for customer service. Everybody there is friendly and helpful. It is a mid-sized family run hotel where the rooms are modern, clean and comfortable; the restaurant has a good selection of local cuisine and wine; the breakfast has everything you would want and more; and it is easy to find and park.
A well cared for hotel in a strategic location between Zurich, Basel and Biel. The rooms are clean and modern, the bathroom door did have a glas insert, but since I was alone I didn't really care. Free WIFI is working well and there are enough free parking spaces provided by the hotel. Only thing I would recommend working on is the rather small breakfast. On the other hand I did get a "real" coffee with a can of steamed milk, quite unusual for a "budget" breakfast buffet. All in all, having stayed in various hotels in this price class in Switzerland this was one of the better ones and that close to Zurich the price is a steal.
This was a lovely hotel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They found indoor spots for our bicycles. Rooms were well cared for, the restaurant was good. Two oddities - the bathroom had a large window to the bedroom. (?!?!?) Glass. Anyone in the bedroom could see exactly what you were doing in the bathroom. So we pasted some newspapers over the window while we were there. The other oddity was that the pillowcases and sheet over the blankets were of some strange material akin to seersucker. With an even larger grain than seersucker. So it was very hard to sleep on because it was so scratchy and rough. The bottom sheet was not of this material. Still very hard to get to sleep. Too bad. The hotel is not in Aarau, by the way, so without a car it is not good as a tourist hotel for Aarau.
Im staying here one to two weeks a year for Business. Room are clean and ok, but noisy near the lift and stairs. Street Side is noisy too. Hotel not cheap but ok, with a Fitness Room and Hammam. Both Restaurant expensive.. Staff very helpfull . In three years i never tried anothet Hotel nearby. No free internet access.
This hotel is absolutely tragic. We wanted a hotel between Basel and Zurich, so we choose this hotel as it was a Best Western chain hotel. The room was very noisy. We could hear the train that was passing by every hour. We could hear the bell of the church every morning at 6 oclock. The claening lady was coming in our room every morning at 7 oclock without a warnig and she woke us up. The staff didnt know enough English so we could communicate. The breakfast was so poor. I do not reccomend it at all. The money/quality is absolutely not going together. The only good thing was that at the last day we accidenlty found a Bally stock house next to the Hotel.
While visiting friends nearby, we wanted to try a different hotel from the Aarau hotel we normally stay at in this area. Well, we were disappointed in the Hotel Storchen. We called in advance as we were 3 adults so we wanted to know if they had a large enough room for us. They had what they called a Suite which had a room with 2 large twins and a pull out couch in the main room that was set up for us. This bed was sloped down from the head to the foot of the bed so your feet would be only inches off the floor while your head was about 2 feet off the floor. Quite interesting to sleep on! The room was a good size as was the bathroom. In fact the shower was quite large. So we had no problem with this room other than there was no air conditioning and the internet was an additional charge. And the rate was high for this "average" hotel. The problem came the next day when we returned to the hotel late in the evening after spending the entire day out to find that they had moved our suitcases out of the room saying they had already booked that suite out and the they didn't see our reservation for the 2nd night! We showed them our confirmation which clearly showed both nights. We wondered if they really had rented out that room as we didn't see more than a couple of people in the whole hotel over the weekend (it was a holiday weekend and this hotel is really a business type hotel not the typical vacation type hotel). They said we would have to work it out with the manager the next day, but gave us 2 rooms in the meantime. So tired as we were, we had to move our luggage to these new rooms. These 2 rooms were just your average "shoe box" type rooms. Bathroom was just average. Both rooms smelled moldy and were really dark and without many lights to brighten the room up. Again, no air conditioning and internet was extra. The breakfast was included as is normal through Switzerland. It was just an average breakfast with a couple cerals, cheese, meat, yogurt, bread, rolls and some fruit. Really nothing to get excited about. Again, maybe because there were only a few people at the hotel they just didn't put out the same spread as they would for more people. Next morning, we talked to the manager and showed her our paperwork and she agreed that we had the room reservation for 2 nights but they had made a mistake by moving us out of the Suite. She made it sound like the suite was available, which was not what they had said the night before. She apologized and gave us a piece of chocolate. Seems like they should have given us a discount instead of a picce of chocolate. We had already decided we were not going to stay there again and couldn't wait to leave.
