Many aspects to improve. The staff was so slow. It was dirty, there wasn't soap and deficiencies everywhere. We only stayed 1 night. The best was the location, next to the beach. This hotel seems to be neglected.
Aubi is a typical hotel built in 60s or 70s and it is located in Sant Antoni de Calonge, a little town in Costa Brava, in the North part of Catalonia. The hotel is located close to the beach, only two streets far from there. It is very good, if you want to go to the beach, to walk on the promenade or to go to eat in any restaurant in the city. The room was big and it has almost all I needed. In fact, I came here with my little child and she could play perfectly in the room. Moreover, the staff from the bar and the reception was very friendly with us and they helped me with the baby. On the other hand, facilities of the hotel are a bit old (I think they needed change some parts of them) and the rate Quality/price is a bit expensive (almost 55 euros/night), but it is OK, because prices in summer in Costa Brava are always extremly expensive. When I return to Sant Antoni, I am sure I will book the same hotel again.
Hotel Aubi - 2 stars. Staff - from the reception desk to waiter and cleaners were lovely. Varying degrees of English spoken, but managed ok with "dos heuvos y beicon por favor" (dreadful pidgin English/Catalan/Spanish - may even have resorted to French one time!) The room was light and spacious, but very hot as there was no air conditioning or any way to set up a breeze through the room - the plastic mattress protectors didn't help either! The cleaner visited every day and changed towels and sheets each day too - which I hadn't expected in a 2 star. The food offered was ok - mostly freezer to oven/fryer stuff in the evening, but the salad and bread was plentiful. Breakfast was a typical continental affair (apart from the aforementioned bacon and eggs). The hotel is right next to the main road through Palamos and Sant Antoni and was noisy at all times. The Costa Brava Fashion Show was on for 3 nights while we were there and thoroughly spoilt the evenings with the loud music which went on until gone 2 am. Pros - good wifi, location to beach and the promenade Cons - no air con, noisy location (the shower holder in my room was broken which made for an interesting shower experience!), no swimming pool (although about 2 mins from the beach!). Also wasn't sure about wifi - had to reconnect each day and it appeared to be a 5 euro charge. Ended up using O2 roaming instead.
Nice clean hotel right next to the beach. We stopped 8 days and loved it.. staff were help full and smiling every day. Would recommend strongly if your in the area. If you like walking and like the beach which is 200 yards away then this is the hotel for you.
This hotel is in a very useful position, near the beach and walking distance from Palamos and of course Sant Antoni. I went there in a full period, my room was big (a triple bed room for one single person) but not cleaned. Just arrived there was dust in the floor and hair of someone else in the bathroom. I found a botton in a bed, and bed covers had deep and ancient spots. ok the furniture was old and needed to be changed but the common spaces were in better conditions than my room. So I hope I was assigned one of the worst available and the others were better. The terrace is very useful, especially when back from the beach, but in some cases there is noise because the hotel is placed along the street. I did not use breakfast service, so I can't evaluate the food and this service.
When we arrived, I was quite satisfied with the hotel as it seemed to be better than what I expected, the hotel being rated 2 stars only. The room was spacious, bathroom simple but operational and the hotel is only 1 minute walking from the beach. However, we quickly discovered that the walls between the rooms are so thin that you could hear all your neighbours discussion. It was just like people were living with us which can quickly become very annoying. We went for breakfeast the first morning but honestly, it is not worth coming down for it. So the hotel will do it if you are planning to spend the whole day on the beach, go out in the evening and only stay there for few hours to rest. But if you are planning to stay there quite a lot, be ready to share your life with your neighbours....
Hotel viejo, feo y sucio.
