Superb hotel, exceptionally clean and the staff were always smiling and most helpful. The buffet breakfast was outstanding with an excellent variety of fresh fruit, healthy “smoothies” very wide selection of cooked dishes to choose from as well as a wide selection of breads and pastries. The restaurant staff were always attentive and dining facilities impeccable clean. The hotel room as, as to be expected of a five star hotel, well-appointed and the beds extremely comfortable, the views over the golf course and city of Jerez beyond were amazing. The Golf course was extremely disappointing. The conditions of the fairways were well below my expectations, having visited previously when this venue hosted the Volvo Masters in 1990. The fairways are in need of urgent attention for the removal of weeds and wild grasses that are everywhere and seeding of the many bare areas which, even with winter rules allowing placement of ball within a limited distance, still only allow for hitting off muddy areas. The teeing areas were more reminiscent of a municipal course with a lack of control over the limited areas to tee off whilst other areas should be rested and allowed to recover from the multitude of previous divots. No sand was available on any hole to refill newly created divots, or available for buggy users to carry. Unlike all championship standard courses I’ve played on, this course only use one colour of flag, red, to indicate the hole position. Therefore playing from an approach position, with many greens well elevated, no reference is given as to whether the hole is in the front, the middle or the back of the green, costing valuable shots to the proficient golfer. First time ever for me, the score card for this course has no reference to local rules whatsoever. For trolley pulling golfers, like myself, many green-side bunkers, extend from the green both left and right running close to the boundaries of the hole, denying walking access with their trolleys around the outer areas of the green, the consequence of which, I was forced to break common rules of golf by pulling my golf cart between the greenside bunkers and the putting surface. The greens, however, were exceptional and free of weeds or unwanted grasses. The bunkers, of which there are many, have no consistency in sand quality throughout the entire course. Lack of toilets on the course presents a problem for lady golfers, as was expressed to me on many occasions. With plenty of thick woodland the problem does not affect the male golfers in the same way. The practice area adequate, the driving range was wide and sufficiently long enough. The putting practice green is also adequate, however, the chipping green is very small and always seemed to be occupied by two or three golfers dominating available chipping positions. During seven days I was only able to access the chipping area once. The only toilet serving as a last minute relief for the first tee as well the driving range and practice area is a unisex toilet with two half door cubicles with no locks and two urinals in the same open area. Hardly what one would expect from this establishment. Having played golf for over fifty years and currently playing off 10 at the age of 71, I have always favoured walking a course for my health, to gather my thoughts and appreciate the greenery of its environment. This course did produce many surprises. There are many steep hills and valleys to negotiate. It is long with great distances between greens and tees, some of these being longer than some of the par fours. Even walking on the unmaintained, uneven buggy paths was punishing on the knees, feet and body. This course is most certainly aimed at motorised golf. On a positive note, the abundance of wild life, particularly around the water features, were pleasant surprises.
The hotel is very remote from any other facilities. Evening in Jerez was 20 euro taxi ride. Breakfast food from hot tray was luke warm. Coffee was from a machine (not pleasant). Bar was well serviced. Tried to get a table in restaurant and they were fully booked hence going in to the city. Golf was excellent - pro shop very attentive.
Been to this hotel multiple times, good course was in great condition, greens and fairways excellent, the course is a little scruffy around the edges but not detrimental to the experience. The hotel needs a little TLC and the food selection needs expanding upon. This was going to be our last stay here as wanted to look at new venues however likely to come back based on quality of course improving
This is an excellent hotel. All the staff are friendly and ready to help. The course is great. It's not easy and very hard to push round. Well maintained course and marshall keeps an eye on all the course. Room with balcony was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety. This was our fourth visit and we will be back.
We stayed in a spacious 2 bedroom 2 bathroom villa. It was a very good value for the size of the room and the finished portion of the resort was very nice. The dinner and breakfast buffets were great and offered a wide selection of options.
"nd visit here, and again it didnt disappoint. Pro shop has been renovated and there seems to be other improvement being carried out to the resort Some tatty bits, the practice range is looking a bit tired. Course had suffered a bit from recent heavy rain, but the greens staff worked hard to repair the bunkers and had it back to tip top condition very quickly. Due to the wetter than usual winter the fairways were in better condition due to grass growth and the greens were fantastic. Staff, food and hotel all excellent, couldnt fault anything. Will be back next year.
Golf course was good. Challenging in places. The package for four of us was very good value. The staff at the hotel were very helpful, food and drinks were not expensive. Shared twin room was comfortable, but found the room hot at night, even though the outside temperature wasn't too hot. Would return.
This was our third stay at Montecasillio in as many years, all our previous holidays had been short breaks, but this time we went for two weeks. The weather was a disappointment, rain for practically the whole time we were there, but that’s not the hotels fault. First observation was that the staff were just as good as they have always been, rooms equally as good too, food good, with extensive breakfast and plenty of choice in an evening. My only complaint would be that the food could have been kept warmer and plates hotter so that food did not go cold before you had chance to eat it. Being Coeliac,my choice of dishes was restricted but the restaurant staff would always serve me gluten free bread and a range of sweet dishes of exceptional quality.
You can tell this placed used to be great, it still is in places but as the other reviews suggest it needs some investment and TLC. Staff fell into 1 of 2 categories, incredibly helpful or completely uninterested
The room was perfect, nice smooth big beds, lovely view at 18th green, the food was delicious, perfect bathroom with a bath that had two shower heads!! The hotel is at the golfcourse so it is very central. Nice to walk to range, first tee, practice green, golfshop and the spa. Fantastic!!
