Barcelo Montecastillo Golf5.0 out of 5.0

Hotel is a mere 20 minute journey from Jerez airport which in itself is a pleasant airport, on arrival staff are smart and welcoming, check in completed off to our rooms, first impression was a small room considering the Montecastillo is a 5star hotel! However clean and tidy, the Air conditioning was barely blowing any cool air and caused a restless night sleep for both my wife and this was also the same issue with the couple we had traveled with, the next day we changed rooms but the Air conditioning was poor in the other room too. Rooms are smaller compared to other 5 star hotels. That said the staff are attentive and smartly dressed breakfast and evening meal was good with a good selection available to suit most tastes with the evening meal varied throughout the week. On balance a nice clean hotel with a very well maintained golf course, not the most challenging of courses I've played but still enjoyable. The hotel is remote! A hire car or taxi are the only means of transport for dining out!
The hotel is situated just outside Jerez. It's a 4 star hotel and was priced very reasonably for July. The general outlook of the hotel and comfort of the rooms is to a high standard. Great views of the golf course, provide a very nice setting. We expected a quiet hotel away from the coast, but turns out this hotel is very busy in summer. The staff were very good but overworked. Generally everything was good but are only disappointments were: For such a good looking hotel we expected a better main pool. There was space for only about 14 people by the main pool. You would expect a far bigger pool and surrounding area for sunbathing than that. They ask families to use the pool of the golf club next door. This is a little bigger but caters for about 30. We found this pool overcrowded with both hotel guests and golf club guests. We therefore found it impossible to relax by the pool. The photos online had implied this would have been possible. Similarly we were disappointed by the hotel bar being shut most of the day. There were enough guests to support a bar throughout the whole day, but if you wanted to have a drink in the day again you were told to go next door to the golf club. The facilities in the golf club were good but overworked. It would take 30 minutes just for the waiter to ask for your order. I expect the facilities are ok at quieter times of the year but are insufficient for the number of guests in summer months. There was a spa. Effectively this was one indoor pool with hydro spa features for 15 euros a person. A bit overpriced for what it is and disappointing. My advice to the hotel would be to evaluate these features. Everything else at the hotel was to a very good standard. I expect we may return in the quieter winter months, but not again in the summer unless we hear that the pools and bar have been expanded.
We stayd here for one week in early July. The golf was good, the location is convenient for day trips (Jerez, Sevilla, Cadiz) and the hotel itself is very nice. The rooms are of good size and clean. There are some 90's elements (like bathrooms) but the hotel is not word down or too old-fashioned. The restaurant selection is quite narrow, but there are good restaurants around the area if you have a car (without a car you're basically stuck at the hotel). There are 2 pools (one for adults only) which both were quite nice. For some reason there were a lot of flies on a couple of days making sunbathing almost impossible. I don't know if this is normal or one-off. The breakfast is very good - big plus for the smoothie bar. You can also order eggs / omelettes from the counter.
Enjoying all inclusive for one week. Really good food and drinks. Service is excellent. Will come back. The golf course is really challenging with long par 3 holes. Nice rooms with good ac. All inclusive is good value
A wonderful hotel and staff , couldn't fault anything. Staff so friendly and efficient , great facilities , delicious food ( especially the smoothies at breakfast) look forward to a return visit in the near future.
what a delightful complex for the golfer and diner; the course was in splendid condition and the catering was a veritable feast! The value was exceptional on all-inclusive, comparable to shop-lifting(!)
My wife and I returned to the Barcelo Montecastillo having spent a relaxing week here 2 years ago. The facilities have improved, the staff are as good as ever and the food presentations in the main restaurant are of excellent quality. The rooms are spacious, extremely well maintained and have the best air conditioning we've experienced in years - USA included! However - some points worth noting. In typically Spanish fashion there's a time shift of a couple of hours. The pools aren't available until 11am and the gym doesn't open until 10am!! This, we found, became quite irksome - as it did also for some of the other, non-Spanish guests. The bar café has stopped serving snack lunches and the guests are directed to the bar at the golf club - a somewhat soulless venue with a very restricted menu. Can't understand the reasoning with this since the main bar has great views and a spacious chilled feeling to it. The hotel is in a relatively isolated position so has a captive clientele which should afford it the opportunity to capitalise on its food and beverage offerings - but it won't if the golf café is the best it can offer. Well maintained throughout. Nothing appears to be a problem for the staff. (One small "improvement" niggle - you now have to present a voucher for the pool towels. Not very 5 star). All in all, still a good hotel.
Wonderful stay, we will recomend it for golfers and their family (very excellet services such spa, food, accomodation and so on). Superb in every aspect of our stay, and the golf field is wonderful...!
Fantastic hotel and the ever improving facilities are everything you could ever want from this first class complex. I have been holidaying for years at this wonderful resort and just when I think it can't get any bettter they come up with new improved facilities. Rooms have excellent facilities and spotlessly clean very comfortable and a generous size. The golf course is a fair test and has many amazing holes with improvements being made to enhance this already fantastic course. On arrival you are allocated your own locker meaning you don't have to trail your golf gear with you every day. After a hard days golf there are several swimming pools with towels provided and ample comfortable sun beds. If you prefer there is a wonderful spa offering full treatments to ease the pains from the body. I travelled with seven of my friends who had never been before and we are already planning our next trip. The management and staff make this a wonderful, experience as they all go above and beyond to ensure that you have The Monticastillo experience if you've never tried it I would 100% recommend trying it. You'll never want to leave.
This was our 5th time returning to Montecastillo. We look forward to going each year as the staff make you feel like returning family. This year the food was not as varied as in previous years but the pool areas have been upgraded. A lovely resort but if you want nightlife go into Jerez some days.
