This cosy cortijo is situated between the villages of Busquistar and Trevelez and 25 km from the town of Orgiva. These self-catering cottages also locally known as casa rural are located in the heart of Las Alpujarras in the National Park in Sierra Nevada near Granada, Andalusia. The unique geographical location makes it ideal from the beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean to the south and the Alhambra in Granada to the north.
This cortijo (one of 3) is ideally situated for a couple looking for a break away from it all. It is self contained with its own bathroom, kitchen/sitting room and one double bedroom. It has its own private terrace with seating, bbq, hammock and stunning views. It is set in large gardens with a wide variety of fruit trees as well as grassed areas and guests are welcome to wander wherever they like. It is only a short walk from the swimming pool. The large pool (11 x 6 m) is filled from a natural spring water stream. Please note that the swimming pool is shared between this cottage and 2 other detached cottages but you will hardly ever find other people by the pool as often guests spend a day at the beach or visiting Granada or hiking locally.
The garden and grounds are extensive and guests are encouraged to wander freely and explore. There is also a peaceful shaded area with various 500 year old chestnut trees, ideal for meditation, yoga and relaxation. There are lots of hiking routes which can be taken from the cortijos and we provide information about these in each cortijo. We also have 2 dogs, Paco and Pepe who are very friendly, as well as an assortment of chickens and birds and a resident peacock.
The cortijos are equidistant (approx 4 km) from the villages of Busquistar and Trevelez where there are small food shops, bars and restaurants, although Trevelez has more variety than Busquistar. Trevelez claims to be the highest village in Spain and is famous all over the world for its jamon serrano or cured ham. Wander around Trevelez and anywhere you look you will find jamon legs hanging from the ceiling of bars and restaurants, there is even a museum of Jamon in the village! Many Spanish tourists come to visit Trevelez.
Our nearest bar is in Busquistar and is called Bar de Paco - we highly recommend it - very friendly environment with different freshly made tapas with each round of drinks which are incredibly good value, or you can order more substantial food from the menu.
The famous picturesque white villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capiliera are all about 20 minutes drive away. These pretty villages are full of traditional flat roofed Alpujarran houses and narrow alleyways full of little bars and shops, they are best explored on foot.
The cortijo is approximately one hour drive from Granada which is well worth a visit and of course the Alhambra palace - we recommend prior booking for the Alhambra to ensure you can visit. If you are visiting in the summer then either an early morning or late afternoon visit to the Alhambra is recommended as Granada gets very hot during the summer months.
The cortijo is also only about an hours drive from the coast where the choice of beaches is huge, depending on your requirements - again, information is provided in each cortijo.
