The rooms were a little compact but adequate with splendid bathrooms. The bed was a bit soft for us but I'm sure most would love them. Breakfast was a definite highlight as there was a very good selection of items and the cooked breakfast was extensive. The staff were very helpful in the dining room. The only criticism was that there was no one of reception when we arrived and we had to wait to check in (and no bell to ring) and when we checked out there was also no one to check us out. The grounds are excellent looking out over the river
Great made very welcome on arrival rooms rather small but comfortable and clean lovely comfortable bar area great breakfast staff very good, very attentive dinner in restaraunt was very too. Lovely well kept garden leading down to river Trent. The hotel hosts lots of weddings ,but this did not cause our party any concerns . Overall an excellent weekend
On July 23rd My sister and I arranged a surprise party for our parents' Pearl wedding anniversary. Karen was wonderful in helping with the arrangements and the function room was absolutely ideal for the 30 odd guests. The staff were tremendous in helping keep my parents in the dark until they walked into the room. Simon took them through the restaurant into the Dove/Trent room under the pretence of the restaurant being full. The bar staff, including Jade, were very pleasant and provided an great service of alcohol in (reasonable of course!) abundance for our guests. A fantastic day at an amazing venue for a very decent price!
On the long journey for a family holiday, we chose to stop off at the Riverside Hotel for lunch. A friendly young gentleman welcomed us and was happy to assist throughout our visit.. The wait for food was not too long, considering it was getting busy. The only negative was the fish was slightly too greasy for my liking, but I ate it anyhow as I wanted to try the warm chocolate fudge cake ( which was delicious) The hotel is in an ideal location near the canal, so plenty of walks around the area.
Met friends here for lunch. Found the venue very comfortable with extremely helpful and friendly staff. The venue has a wonderful outside area although on our visit the weather was suitable for being outside, there is a great view over the river. The inside was bright and airy. The menu was quite comprehensive with plenty of choice, I had the beef pie which was exceptional. It did seem that the restaurant was short staffed, but the very pleasant and efficient lady dealing with service was brilliant, unruffled and with a great and friendly smile. We will be back thank you.
me and my now wife had our wedding at the riverside hotel last weekend, it was fault less. from the meetings and planning Karen gave us great advise, fantastic at her job. the day was amazing, every thing was well presented the food was great. the staff were friendly and help full especially Simon who looked after us during the day. a huge thank you to the whole team.
I looked at all the hotels in Burton upon Trent as I'm visiting on business. None really seemed to come up to the mark, but this place is quiet, on the river, great garden, really friendly staff and is value for money. I have really enjoyed my stay here. Why it's Greene King in the middle of Marston country is beyond me. The food is keenly priced, well presented and tasty. I didn't try the steaks or trad English breakfast but what I had was just fine Good wine list, and they do functions, weddings, with good sized car park. Downside? The rooms are really well presented but just a little small. Leaving in the morning, will miss the ducks, swans, geese on my riverside run
We were visiting Burton (Marston's Brewery Tour - very good, btw) and needed a bed. Riverside is in a great location, nicely refurb'ed and all very good. Will look at other Old English Inns for the future based on this visit.
I have visited a few times before but needed to review based on service, arriving at 11am no one was at the bar & I had to find someone, then as our group arrived, 9 in total we thought we would have lunch, it was Thursday 11.30 & we were asked if we booked? There was hardly anyone at the restaurant?? We waited till 12 to be seated & a number of the group were coeliac so wanted to have gluten free, they were told the menu had symbols marking options but only v for vegetarian no 'gf' markings so they had to ask & trust the knowledge of the staff. Whilst the restaurant was empty it seemed like we were being rushed at one point 3 members of staff checking on us. Then very quickly asking if we wanted dessert before the bill arrived, we left at 12.50 not a long time for 9 people to eat!! Food is ok although the goats cheese & peach salad priced £11.50 was not worth it when a huge plate of chilli, rice & nachos was only £6!!! It is a nice location but a bit more friendliness from staff would help!!
Called in for breakfast on Saturday morning. Natalie made us very welcome, despite being very busy she was perfectly pleasant and accommodating. So good in fact that we stopped by again on Sunday morning to find Natalie working on reception, between taking breakfast orders and covering the bar! If ever anyone deserved an award for outstanding service/management/customer care... it is Natalie! Thank you very much.
