I had moderate expectations going in. Booked the hotel based solely on location and it lived up to expectations.
While planning our trip to Buenos Aires my husband and I were originally going to stay in a large chain hotel. But, after much research, we decided to stay at The Vain. Let me tell you, that was the best decision we made!!! The hotel staff were as good as you could find anywhere in the world: friendly, helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, bilingual, and just very sweet and wonderful-ALL of them! We found our room to be perfect for our stay: clean (thanks Marta!), comfortable bed, great shower, quiet, with all the amenities we needed. The AM breakfast was plentiful and delicious and the coffee amazing. It was great because the breakfast was so filling we could explore most of the day before having to worry about food for quite some time. The second floor lounge area and rooftop patio were great for downtime and relaxation and we were surprised on several occasions to be sitting in these areas and then suddenly treated to breads and juices by hotel staff. The area the hotel is located is absolutely perfect: close to the subway (which we took all over the city), close to excellent dining (more options than you can even eat at), and very safe (we did not feel uncomfortable once, even late at night). We came for a concert (Pearl Jam!) but left with a love for BA and the fine folks we met at The Vain.
Vain Boutique is really a really cute little place, with nice rooms and decor, a great free breakfast, and a very comfortable upstairs lounge to hang out in. However, where the hotel really shines is the service: the people working there are fantastic. We originally had planned to only stay one night en route to New York from Patagonia, checking in at 2:00 am and checking back out again in the morning to head to the airport. However, at the airport we had a full day of massive flight complications, and we finally returned to Vain Boutique in defeat, unable to get home that day. (And with our luggage lost!) The same staff that checked us out that morning were at the desk and they warmly welcomed us back. The staff showed such concern over our travel troubles! We were quickly checked back in for the night (with a nice discount) and headed out for a great dinner in the neighborhood. The staff at Vain Boutique really helped to salvage a terrible day for us; I've never been treated so humanly by hotel staff anywhere, it was fantastic.
Nice and homely. [...]
We really enjoyed this bright, up-to-date hotel. It was in a great neighborhood -- close to many restaurants, the subte, shopping, and museums. The staff was extremely helpful, and the upstairs common room was comfortable and airy. The rooms were not as huge as many Americans may be used to, but ours was very adequate for two people. The breakfast was wonderful -- fresh fruit, good pastries, as well as eggs and other items, if desired. The hotel allowed us to check-in early as we came in off an overnight flight, and also allowed us to stay past checkout prior to our return flight home. We wanted to stay at a smaller hotel that could be a place to hang out a bit, not just to sleep -- we were not disappointed. We would definitely stay at Vain again.
