It is a beautiful property. But the service is not the same. Especially the reception is not friendly, even rude. It is a pitty to have such a staff at such an hotel. I guess the GM is an arrogant lady by not seeing me when I wanted to express my feelings

I have to be honest: I was nervous from reading prior reviews that the Alvear Palace wasn't going to be up to snuff. Several mentioned that it seemed tired and did not live up to five star standards any longer. Thankfully for us we had a fabulous experience. It is indeed an old 'Grande Dame' of an establishment. It is quite formal in presentation and the service is appropriately subdued while still being totally accommodating. We were upgraded to one of the deluxe suites on the top floor (we'd booked a junior suite) and it was fabulous. Very generous in size and with lovely contemporary touches like motorized blackout shades, an optional floor light near the bathroom for easier nighttime trips, and three televisions - one of which is arranged at the foot of the bathtub - which my children loved. I also appreciated that there were two separate air conditioning zones for the living room (where my children slept on the pullout sofa) and the master bedroom. We ate at the hotel three times during our stay and the food was good. The location is terrific. We felt very safe venturing out to dinner with our young children after dark, The hotel arranged a great driver to take us to and from a Boca game. We were quite nervous to go to what we've been told is a dangerous area of town and we were totally at ease with the driver and his knowledge of the neighborhood. It was also our great fortune to walk through the lobby just as the President of Spain arrived! Overall, it was quiet and elegant and sophisticated and we were so sad to leave. We are returning to BA in a few days and I now regret booking a different property for this leg of our trip. Alvear has set the bar high!

This hotel is so luxurious and amazing. Everything about it, from the service, the food, the rooms.. absolutely spectacular! Great views of Buenos Aires on the rooftop. Loved the hotel bar on the main level. Also loved the spiral staircase!! Great location, a very short walk to the famous Recoleta Cemetery. I was so sad to leave this place. Highly recommend, and worth it for the price!

The best room in the best hotel in Buenos Aires. This is a grand, elegant hotel from the British colonial era. Huge and beautiful room. Very comfortable. Best location. Concierge helped us with last minute guides and dining. Restaurant and bar are excellent. Great experience in every way. Ask for Room 1007!

We stayed here on the last night of our 2.5 week Argentinian adventure. This hotel has the most amazing old world charm, while being totally luxurious in a modern way. We were upgraded to a gorgeous suite, and enjoyed Aperol Spritz's on the rooftop bar at sunset. The Garden area is wonderful for breakfast and you can get snacks at the bar outside of dining hours. It was the beginning of polo season, and it was wonderful to people watch! We did experience a some slowness when ordering a late lunch at the bar, and then the chicken arrived not fully cooked, but our server comped it for us. This isn't the rarest thing to happen in BA, so I can't complain. All around, highly recommended.

Great place to calm and gather with friends!!! Service is excellent and food is great!!! The hotel is a real palace. I will definitely come back to have another great time!!! Kids are welcome but it is more of an adult environment.

This hotel is reminiscent of Argentina's greatness of by-gone era's. Pre Peron. The Sunday brunch is a must. Our suite was spacious and elegant and very well appointed. The suite's have butlers. Ours was excellent. The pricing was reasonable. If you have the opportunity find a way to stay at this hotel. It is worth the stretch.

Amazing hotel , fantastic rooms, helpful staff& excellent food. What more could you want. Location good arrived on a Sunday enjoyed the nearby market ,quirky art facility and walking round the cemetery ( Eva Peron / Duarte ) grave.

The Alvear is an elegant hotel which although totally updated has not lost any of its charm. High ceilings, impeccable service and a desire to please at every level. A copious breakfast is included with the reservation of your room, served in a beautiful, spacious room with quietly attentive service. They also have a not to be missed tea in the afternoon (not generally included) which can easily replace any supper plans that you might make. The hotel is well located in the city, with shopping and cafes nearby. Our room had been upgraded so it would have been fine to spend a month in.

I had last stayed at the Alvear Palace about fifteen years ago.....and it actually improved with age, like vintage wine. The place manages to keep its classical magnificence while adding modern functionality. Suites richly and elegantly furnished, impeccable service, the hotel oozes style and tradition , as well as comfort. The concierge is very helpful. The roof top bar is a must : spectacular view of Recoleta, and the church near the famous Cemetery, great cocktails. The Restaurant La Bourgogne a haven of refined cuisine in the heart of the magnificent city. La Grande Dame has aged well.
