4 horrible days of my 1 month in Bucharest hotels. The worst of trip. Left tired and sleep deprived. Horrible in all respects, except maybe location. Tiny room, no space to open suitcase except on bed, Internet keeps dropping and needs repeated signing in. No space for even luggage rack folded in the corner (pic attached) Reception man said, ‘Thats the standard room, did you not see online’. Thats it. About the internet - The older man went away to bring his phone and said I need to switch it on and off, thats was he does. for my laptop and phone!! Tthats what our ISP told us. • Tiny TV, a single sofa stuck in the corner in a 2.5m x 2.5m cramped room • Gym and Pool was closed - no information on the booking site. Mis-selling! • Curtains, doesnt even cover the window completely • Dirty worn out carpet • NO light on the celiing, only the yellow light lamps that camouflage the dirty carpet • Overall a 70s/80s feel to the room (not talking about musical vibes) • Bathroom - an old stained sink, a child sized bathtub (70cm of tub floor), chipped tiles, mold and stains on the wall and a towel that was rough as a rag. No toiletries, all purpose soap bottle on the wall!! • The room temp does not correspond to the thermostat dial, was up every night fiddling with it. Hence missed sleep and affected work. The aircon is loud! • Bland breakfast. I found egg shells in the fried eggs one day, no kidding. I pointed out the coffee had run out. ‘No coffee, there the espresso, sorry’, pointing to the vending machine - at 8:30am!
We booked only for one night. Indeed, the furniture was old, but still tough, the room where we stayed was small, but large enough for two people. The place is clean, but it still needs to be invested. Rich breakfast / fresh produce. We traveled by car and we managed to find a parking space in front of the hotel. The spa is a simple pool and sauna. The biggest problem was that the pool water contained a lot of chlorine that bleached our bathing suits and was impregnated in our skin.
I spent 4 nights at this hotel while attending a conference. I found it disappointing (but I have no experience of other hotels in Bucharest to compare it with). Good points: - very central: close to old town for bars and restaurants; close to national art gallery; easy access from airport down the main avenues; - clean - bathroom (with bath and shower): in good condition - no noise from other rooms Not-so-good points: - dated: old fashioned decor and furniture, (but clean, tidy); needs investment - long, dingy corridors - very erratic free wifi (keeps breaking connection) - cramped lobby and not really any other spaces for relaxing in - tiny breakfast room: you may have to share a table with strangers - breakfast: variety of foods, but all poor quality, including coffee; 'hot' dishes were tepid; tiny cups impossible for making tea; - not very friendly staff: blank looks instead of happy smiles; some with poor English (but I also don't speak Romanian, so can't complain) - miserly: in four nights I was only allowed 2 tea-bags - they were never replaced; why? - street noise: I had a 'quiet' room away from the main road, but still needed ear plugs. Bottom line: I guess if you get a really cheap rate and only stay a short while, it could be OK.
I not only had a lovely stay in the hotel, but even when I was staying elsewhere, I would often come here for lunch/dinner and a very good wine selection. With a terrific indoor pool, this will be my hotel of choice when I return to Old Town.
The first impression was a security guard leaning against the wall with his hand in his pocket and his top button unfastened. The room smelt musty and the hotel needs lots of love and attention. Eg bathroom tap dripping, safe didn't work, door didn't close properly. Breakfast is very poor - the croissants were far from fresh! Poor standard overall. The gym is an absolute joke and closes early. It's really really poor. They should not be allowed to get away with calling this a gym. Decor is really tired. On the plus side, the room is a good size and the location is good Do not expect 4 star treatment here Ramada should reconsider allowing this hotel to use their name
While going from airport to hotel, our driver commented about it;s excellent location. On arrival we found a majestic building on main active street of Bucharest. Hotel is located on left side block while coming from airport. Next to it is famous Odeon theatre. There is a fountain in front of hotel. Building is large with Bar & Bistro on right side an a large area for breakfast on left side of the reception. It seems to be an old hotel but is well managed and maintained. Front desk staff was polite and cooperative. Special mention about bartender Cristian, a handsome and smart man, ready to help you and give suggestions. He is a sweet talking person and we enjoyed long discussions with him. Lifts are old, galleries to rooms are long, quiet and carpeted. We got a nice room on 4th floor with a little balcony. Room was well decorated, nice and clean. Beds with clean linen were comfortable for sound sleep.Breakfast starts at 7 am and had a huge spread. Hotel also offers free use of Gym and swimming pool. I recommend this beautiful hotel for an experience and its close proximity to old town.
Normally stay at Novotel which, was sadly fully booked for the date in question. I chose this hotel due to its location. However it is worlds apart from Novotel, the standards far lower. It is tired and worn. The ambience in the lobby feels cramped and unwelcoming. The room itself again average but it's age showing. The bathroom has a tap that is too short for the bath so the water hits off the side when you're filling it and causes a flood and slip hazard. The staff are welcoming but sadly the dated and worn feel overshadows this. Thankfully back to Novotel on Monday. If you need the location fair enough but be warned it's not worthy of being a 4 star hotel.
Apart of the location, which is great, everything else was disapointing. The hotel is old, with old furniture which is also in a discutable condition. It smels bad. The personel is unpolite and rude, begining with the reception and finishing with the clean ladies. They do not salute, say hello, they are not looking at you
The location is very good, in the center of Bucharest but the rest is 2 stars not 4 like they charge. The lobby was dirty, the elevators are old and smell bad, the room is small and not at all modern. It all looks dirty and unattended to. The breakfast looked nice, the caffe was acceptable. Not at all value for money.
Perfect location within a few minutes walk of the Old Town with museums, galleries and parks in the other direction! Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and well presented. It's quiet and comfortable. But... everything is just a little tired. I'd also suggest this is not a 4* hotel and should be considered a 3* taking this into account. This didn't take anything away from our stay. We loved our time in Bucharest. We weren't there to stay in the hotel all day. ;-) I feel a refurbishment is in order to keep up with the newer neighbours! Thanks.
