I love this hotel. Clean and modern. Breakfast is excellent and full stuff is very nice and friendly. Best place to stay. Ten minutes walk to the Old Town. Pool, sauna, gym free. For massage you have to get an appointment cause it's usually busy. I'd love to be there again...

My husband and I stayed at the Novotel in Bucharest for two nights during our visit to Romania. We learned quickly that it was an excellent location with quick walks to the Old Town, nightlife, great restaurants, and must-see sights of the city, and were appreciative of the Tourist Info Centre just a block away. The location was the best characteristic of the hotel. In terms of the room, the bed was comfortable but the bathroom not so much. The toilet was separate from the sink, which was inconvenient (sink was with the shower around the corner near the bed), and the shower had black mould in it. Additionally, it would have been great for the hotel to stock hair conditioner as well as shampoo when claiming to provide shower amenities, but this is a more minor detail. The service of the staff was the most disappointing aspect of our stay. The front desk assistant was unfriendly and unhelpful when we asked about finding a tourist walking map of the city. Not only did he seem unaware of the tourist info site located a block away (which we found shortly after), he directed us to a store nearby to purchase a driving map of the city. It was very odd for the staff not to know about the official Tourist Centre nearby. Also in terms of service - the doorman working during our check-out was rude, and demanded we move our vehicle (into which we were about to load luggage) so that another car could exit the property (the driveway is very poorly laid out - one lane, and an empty taxi had pulled in behind this other car to prevent it from reversing out...not sure why they didn't just ask the taxi to move if there was such a hurry). The doorman met us at the elevator, demanded to know if it was our vehicle in front of the other car, and instead of helping us speed up the process of loading our bags so we could move our car, he essentially chased us out the door and proceeded to stand there and watch us load the car, repeatedly telling us to move it. We were shocked at this appalling service and found it to be a disappointing conclusion to our stay at this hotel.
Novotel Bucharest is a gem situated in the heart of the city, with a friendly and helpful staff striving to satisfy all his guests wishes. Nice inviting lobby offering plenty of places to sit down and relax, clean and spacious rooms (a minus point on the fact that the windows cannot be open for fresh air), an impressive wine collection from which you can have a degustation at the bar, a breakfast which doesn't exceed in variety but providing the basic continental menu... This are only the few things which did made my stay in this hotel pleasant and memorable, and I invite you reader to discover them as well.
I've stayed here twice now, a couple of months apart, and there has been a distinct decline in standards over that period, or maybe they just cant manage the summer crowds. The rooms are looking really tired and the A/C doesn't cope with the weather. It's fine on the ground floor, but inadequate in the rooms and non existent in the common areas. Checking in and out is slow and there's never any help with bags. The bathrooms are particularly poor, tiny and cramped with pre-fab showers, terrible water pressure and worn out towels the size of postage stamps - they are really disgraceful in what is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. Housekeeping is prone to entering without knocking. The bar/restaurant staff are friendly but rather clueless and terribly slow - you can sit there for ages w/o being noticed or offered anything; it's also rather overpriced. But possibly the worst thing in this hotel is the breakfast - definitely not worth paying for. There's no table service at all, the cafe staff don't even bring coffee.They all look about 12 years old and they wander around idly replacing table mats, straightening cutlery and occasionally taking away used plates. They all seem a bit stoned or sleepy or something. The selection of food is very limited compared to other hotels of similar standard, but worse still the breakfast area is far too small for the number of patrons so it's always a bunfight trying to get your breakfast. They constantly run out of things - and the attitude you get when you ask for something is really unpleasant. I had the temerity to point out one of the staff that there was no milk left for the cereal and ask if they could bring some more - the first response I got was disbelief, it took three requests and about 10 minutes for someone to find some by which time I had decided to decamp. And then if you do manage to wrangle your food it will get even colder (since nothing starts hot) while you queue up for lousy coffee or the sugary watery muck they try to pass off as fruit juice. Honestly for a 4 star hotel it is barely a 2 star breakfast. Laundry and dry cleaning are expensive and take 24 hours - same day service is 50% extra.
We had a great experience at this hotel in August 2017!! We were a very large group of people (around 50-60) and the team was very professional in welcoming us and organizing our stay at a very interesting price. All the staff was very kind and helpful, the rooms were spacious, clean, with separate bathrooms and air conditioning, the breakfast was good, the lobby and lounge-bar were great for gatherings with friends and family in the evening when the outside temperature was very high. A very positive impression! We strongly recommend this hotel which is also located in the Bucharest city centre, not far from bars and restaurants, Lipscani, museums, malls, etc.
The hotel is well located righjt in Bucharest center. Anna Maria is a dedicated person always ready to help selecting a restaurant or answering any additional request. The room is very clean and offering delicateness (we were in an executive room) thanks to the great job done by Elena. Free drinks and some food are offered in the VIP area which is appreciated when coming back from a long town visit. The swimming pool, hammam and fitness center were also appreciated. We really recommend the hotel in particular the executive rooms and all their related free offers. You should eat at the Excalibur and Vatra restaurants located near by the hotel.
I know most rooms in Europe aren't know for offering space but this was really a small room and bathroom. Not very comfortable. Best part about this place is the wine bar in the hotel lobby. Still it was clean and the staff friendly. Good location. Wouldn't recommend for a long stay.
I used to like the Novotel hotel in Bucharest and this was my choice every time I was coming here. My last visit disappointed me. At the check in time I was asked for paying the guarantee amount for extra services (which I never use in fact). I didn’t pay this guarantee previously… but as this is the “in house” rule I gave my card. The receptionist didn’t inform me about the value of the guarantee and it happened that the extracted amount was almost all the money left on my account, so I was in the situation of “no money for living”. I asked for the official document where it is stated about the guarantee and the exact amount. The receptionist printed an email an gave me to read… She stated that this is an official document. It was just a printed email – no signature, no stamp. She kept telling me that this is the hotel rule and she can’t do anything about this. The only option was to call my company (I was in a business trip) and ask them to guarantee the payment for extra services and only in this case they will cancel the guarantee from my card. Her manager stepped in and tried to solve the problem. He even suggested to cancel the fee and in case of any extra services I will pay at the moment of using them. I decided to call the company, but I was told that there is no corporate card which can be used for the guarantee. When I came back to the reception and asked if we can find an alternative solution for the problem, the manager reacted in a different manner and he told me that they are “tired of paying extra services for the customers”. I felt horrible… Moreover he told me that the payment for the room was not made and he suggested to wait until the next morning. After payment, they will solve the problem by cancelling a partial or full amount of the guarantee. He also mentioned that he will inform his colleagues about the situation as he will not be at he reception on the next day. I came back to the reception on the next morning… The receptionist checked and confirmed that the transfer was made. I asked if she was informed by the manager about the situation with the guarantee and, apparently, she didn’t know anything. She started to explain me that the rule of the hotel is to have a card as a guarantee and if the company didn’t provide any she doesn’t have any other option but to keep the guarantee from my card. I had no power to explain her over the situation again. I just asked her to contact the manager from the previous day and ask him about the decision. I felt as a beggar for my own money… I was in a hurry at that moment and I didn’t come back to the reception with my problem… Nobody contacted me since then… As my problem wasn’t solved, I would like at least to avoid such situations in the future for other customers, so here are my suggestions for Novotel: 1. Provide the necessary training to your staff in order to develop a customer oriented thinking 2. Give clear details to the clients about any extra payment to be made upon arrival 3. Change the attitude towards the customers 4. Act in a professionally way Additionally, to this bad experience: - I had no hot water in one of the mornings - I had bugs in the room (attached image). The explanation was simple – they know about the problem it’s something normal for the summer time.
Friendly staff, nice cool hallway and comfortabel rooms with a wide windowsill to sit on and enjoy the view of Bucharest. Would be nice if they add an extra sheet to use instead of the blanket because it gets too hot in August.
