Econo Lodge City Star Brisbane3.5 out of 5.0

The Econo Lodge City Star Brisbane was the perfect place for our team to rest in between events. The location was very convenient, the staff were extremely attentive and our rooms were clean and comfortable. The Econo Lodge generously donated 2 rooms to us, and provided a 50% discount for any additional rooms. Thank you to the Econo Lodge for supporting The Kids' Cancer Project!
The location is A+, it is a 15 minute walk to the CityHopper Ferry which takes you around and across the river for free. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our plans and our room were in order. When we wanted to book tours, the Concierge offered suggestions and called on our behalf to reserve spots. When we tried to get in touch with Qantas and Virgin Australia over the phone, Marco was helping us find a number to be able to speak with a real human being who could address our problems. Angela was so accommodating and receptive and took a genuine interest to ask us about our day when we returned. Paul was polite and helpful as well, wifi is great for everything except for YouTube and streaming movies. The situation for the actual hotel is a little less than ideal which is why this review is 3 stars. The place is tidy, neat and quiet (the room we stayed in, which was down the hall round the corner of the front desk and up the one flight of stairs then about halfway down the hall) but those are the only postive words one can use to describe the place. It is in desperate need of renovations, the smell in the room can only be described as "old" and musty, there is a draft by the door, the hingers are coming off the cabinet, the blanket, drapes and bed runner are gross. Happily, the room is dark with the heavy blackout curtains. I would return for the sake of the staff and their hospitality, not for the state of the abode however. There is no lift but only one flight of stairs to ascend.
The beds were clean but rooms are very dated, also asked to copy my licence and credit card which is unusual. I have been asked to sight them before but never had them copied. For the cost of $240 per night, you could stay in 4 star accommodation, e.g.: Novatel or Oaks, Saviour was it was close to venue at the Gabba.
I was surprised when I arrived as I didnt expect much with the price I was paying ,However on arrival the staff at the "A Gentleman" was very welcoming ,Very Friendly and explained everything about the hotel ,Wifi is advertized as free ,It is not free you receive two hours per day and pay for anything extra unless you join the Choice rewards club which I did and the wifi was excellent for the entire 4days of my stay , The rooms ,Although they are dated are reasonably clean and large with very comfortable beds and clean linen all TV channels are working and a good selection including Assorted Foxtel channels ,The bathroom ,Once again a little dated was smallish and more care needs to be taken by the house cleaner around the toilet area ,The towels are small and thin but are satifactory and dont expect a handtowel or face cloth unless you request them ,Breakfast on average was fresh and costing around $10 is value for money . The hotel has a lockout time of 10 pm for the car park which is inconvenient but I understand the security reasons there is not a lot of street parking if you dont make the deadline ,All in all my stay was pleasant and I will return again and all of the staff are exceptional extremely friendly and helpful
Booked to stay here with our two kids aged 6 & 10 after Bbl game at the Gabba. Arrived to find poo smeared on the bathroom wall next to the toilet. Management did their best to clean it but a stain remained. Hollow core doors mean you can hear everything plus traffic noise was significant on a Wednesday night. The pool water is murky. There seems to be some permanent residents who participate in some sketchy behaviour. Won't stay here again. Ever.
I have a large (by modern standards) family and the hotel staff were exceptionally helpful accommodating us. The service was excellent. The hotel is in a very good location - five minutes' walk from the Kangaroo Point cliff path, a few minutes more and you're at the Cliffs Cafe. Five minutes' walk south and you're at the Gabba (sports stadium), or one of the Brisbane bus hubs. An early check-in was handled graciously. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable. The building and grounds are well-maintained.
This Hotel is so run down & dirty. Its unsafe for anybody. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. You cant swim in the pool, Its dirty & taken over by occupants that live there. Very noisy & very old & run down.
Great stay, Lovely friendly service from the minute we arrived! Rooms were clean and high quality. Secure car park underneath! Prime location Close to the night life! Bathrooms were modern and spacious. Room also modern and spacious. Great stay! Highly recommended!! Thanks for the lovely service Econo lodge!
Don't compare with a 5-star hotel but if I rate it as a 3.5 star hotel, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed staying here. For the price you pay, it is definitely valued for money. Service was extremely good, Service staff greets you by your name and they always check on you to make sure everything is in good order. I requested them to help me receive and place my flowers for my wife prior to my arrival and they did more than just receiving it. They switched on the air condition to keep the room cool (it was 38 degrees that day) and also helped me watered the flowers. Whenever I move in and out of the reception, they never failed to greet or wish me. For the room, it is well equipped. Bed is good, firm enough but not too hard or soft. Easy to locate them with a big orange signage along the Main Street. Free secured parking. Also it is quiet at night, so you can get a really good sleep! If you ignore anything above, just remember "stay with them" if you are not looking at 5 star hotel.
We attended a family wedding at the nearby Pineapple Hotel. Our family booked a number of rooms at Econo Lodge. The staff were very accommodating, particularly with taking care of our group bookings. The rooms were functional and suited our needs. We didn't have any noise issues. The hotel is in a great location. The hotel allowed us to use their conference room free of charge (with conditions) on the morning after the wedding for a family gathering. The staff and managers were friendly, very accommodating and helpful. Thank you to the Econo Lodge for a great stay!! Your help was much appreciated.
