We chose in this hotel for the high standard decor and it's location being close to York's centre. When we arrived we were told that our room had been cancelled by expedia! The lady in the reception was more than helpful and was able to offer us a room similar to what we had booked but only for 2 nights not the 3 but we accepted as we really wanted to stay here. the room finished to a high standard and we loved the features such as the free standing bath in the room the waterfall shower the colour scheme and the tv having internet access meaning we could watch Netflix lol. The only negative is that there isn't breakfast facilities although you can ask and they will deliver we on the other hand went into York for breakfast
We had booked for two nights (weekend) what was called on Expedia a "standard room", which translated - from the hotel's point of view - into "budget accomodation". Due to the pictures shown during the booking process and with the booking confirmation we were hopeful to have found a cozy and well-kept accommodation. However, on arrival we were hit like by a blow: the room small and stuffy, estimated 15 years not renovated, with the paint coming off from walls and ceiling, cracked tiles in the bathroom, rusty hinges and mold stains. The window in the room did not open, and above all lay the suffocating odeur of an artificial fragrance freshener. Since we arrived very late, only the night porter was present, who did not have the competence to agree to a room change. The next morning we expressed our horror about the condition of the room to the lady at the front desk, whereupon she agreed to a room change for the second night. From our point of view, we thereby got the room we had actually booked, which was in fact in very good condition, the lady however spoke of an "upgrade" and let it appear as goodwill. The new room was really clean, cozy and fancy, apparently this part of the building had been renovated quite recently. It is important in each case to clarify at the time of booking whether one should be accommodated in the "old" (unrenovated) or in the "new" (renovated) part. Stay away from the old part! Apart from the room situation, the hotel is very well located, at a 5 minute walking distance from the city centre.
Great Hotel, very clean, we had a luxury double room which was very well maintained, we loved the Scandinavian feel to the room. Shower was excellent, with over head and hand held shower. Bed was very comfortable. TV also had netfilx which was great.
We stayed here on a Thursday evening. Great location just by Museum Gardens, 5 minutes from the Minster and less than 10 minutes from the railway station. The rooms are of average size with good big beds. The refurbishment is clearly needed, but is obviously well underway so I'm sure the rooms will be much nicer once complete. However, the guests next door to us were watching TV until 4am, and up banging around again by 8am. By 9am housekeeping were up and down the corridors and watching TV as they cleaned the rooms. The fact the walls and floors are paper thin resulted in 4 hours sleep. This hotel is great value for money but I wouldn't stay here again for fear of lack of sleep.
The yorvik Hotel is a very nice hotel. The location is perfect for the city centre. And site seeing. If you cross the road and walk through the museum park . you are in the town centre, right near the Minster and all the shops. Our hotel room was a good size. And had a nice bathroom. Also tea making facilities. And free toiletries. It was very quiet and we had a good night's sleep.
We stayed at the Yorvik Hotel for 3 nights for a family wedding, as it was ideally located for the church and reception venue. 6 other family members were also booked in for the weekend. We were all very disappointed with the hotel facilities, or should I say lack of them. The advertised rooms looked very nice and we looked forward to sharing breakfast with our family members, what we actually received were very poor rooms that even the premier Inn could surpass, and if we required breakfast this was at an additional cost and served in a paper bag from a local cafe ! The reception area was newly renovated, whilst the rest of the hotel was undergoing renovation, at no point throughout the booking process and subsequent calls were we informed that the hotel was being renovated or that breakfasts were no longer being served (even though their website states they have a breakfast room). Builders arrived in the early hours to start work, which did nothing to invoke a relaxing stay. Walking through reception into a building site to substandard accommodation did nothing to lift our mood. The carpets were old and worn and stuck down in places with duct tape, showers although looking like they were sauna style did not work, curtain rails falling off windows, cracks in the sinks, tired , stained furniture and no room to swing a cat in the rooms certainly did not warrant the money we spent (I hasten to add that we were asked for full payment before even seeing our rooms). The hotel offers no parking, so all cars used the local public carpark which cost us over £50 for the weekend (each). I popped back to the hotel during the wedding reception to collect my father-in-laws wheelchair and was not even questioned by the receptionist when I requested the key to their room, the receptionist hadn't seen me before, therefore had no idea that I was staying at the hotel. After numerous failed attempts at contacting the hotel, and constantly chasing for some kind of answer to our issues, all we have been offered is a 'discounted stay' at a date to suit us. We have no reason or wish to stay at this hotel again and feel that their lack of acceptance of our issues and concerns is unacceptable.
12 Months ago I booked 4 rooms for the last weekend in September this year for me and my family members to attend a family wedding in York City centre. It looked ideal, the website looked good, and the facilities on offer included a breakfast room, with full breakfast facilities and it was local to where the wedding was too be held. I confirmed the booking three weeks before by telephone, and even spoke the week before to re-arrange one of the room bookings. Unfortunately what we got was not what we thought we were getting. The hotel is in the middle of refurbishment with work ongoing, we were not informed The rooms we were given were nothing like those advertised on the web-site (they refer to them as budget rooms) At no time was I told we were booking 'Budget rooms' I had just asked for rooms. The rooms were tired, old and some of the features broken, or worn, including showers and curtain rails. The door locks had what looked like plywood over them and the rooms numbers on bits of paper / plastic - all in all not a quality look at all. On top of this, there is no breakfast room. A small breakfast menu is provided with itemised costs and delivered to your room in a bag... As this weekend was all about a happy family get-together we were looking forward to sharing breakfast and conversation around a table. The cost of the rooms is high compared to other local hotels, with limited difference in the budget & non budget prices. I’m sure the non budget rooms may be very nice, if refurbished, but not ours. Work started early Friday morning on refurbishment so we could not have a lie-in as expected. Another small issue is security, there seemed to be no check on who you are if you ask for a key when returning back from being out for the day.. As I booked this hotel for my family, as you can imagine I felt disappointed and embarrassed. After a number of correspondence since we have been offered a 'Discounted' future stay. This in a place I have no reason to visit again !! Communication is poor, and I feel we have not had value, or received the service or facilities sold to us.
This was the second time I stayed in a luxury room and both times have been amazing. Rooms are clean, modern and big. The staff couldn't be more helpful, they always make sure you're alright. Would totally recommend this hotel to anyone. Never any noise, beds are sooo comfy and huge! Make's it even better when your a 5 minute walk away from the city centre :)
This hotel is a joke and should have been closed down for refurb. We arrived and noticed all scaffolding outside ripped carpets and the dining room in the process of being turned into a bedroom so workmen and racket. We unpacked the bed spotless and bathroom clean but old. During the night the water went off we couldn't even brush our teeth and i actually went too the neighbouring hotel for a kettle of water. The water did not come back on at all so rechecked out, As we had booked through Superbreak we had to contact them for a refund. The hotel gave a 50% refund lol. God knows how bad it would have to be to get a full refund, it was pretty bad. I spoke to Rory at the hotel who said he will call me back. He didn't, no surprise there. We still had a laugh but the hotel situation was a joke
Just got back from a 2 night trip to York and stayed at the Jorvik, which was wonderful the loft room is gorgeous, newly decorated and finished to a high standard. Think it was great having the little touches like the electric blinds meaning we could be completely lazy in a morning and not have to get up to open them, there was also the nice addition of a Nespresso coffee machine making me feel right at home with fresh coffee in a morning just the way i like it! The mini bar is a great addition too especially for the cheeky G+T whilst soaking in the bath :-) The best part for me was the bathroom i looooved the bath and having been walking round York all day fighting the powerful winds there was nothing better than climbing into the lovely bath and the HUGE shower. The view from the room was lovely looked right over into the museum gardens. The location of the hotel is so perfect its away from all the hustle and bustle of the busy town center but without being too far out you literally have to walk through the gardens and you are right in the center of town. The only little tiny negative thing i have to say about our room was that the TV wasn't in a great place when you are laid in the bed you cant see the TV we had to put the books underneath to lift the TV up so you could watch it in bed, just a suggestion to mount it on the wall or put it in a higher table or something it isn't a massive issue just something to consider as it was a little awkward to see. The hotel is gorgeous and will definitely stay here again as staff are all lovely and will make recommendations for places to eat if you ask them they have really good knowledge of the area and where to go. Check in and out was smooth and quick Thanks for a lovely stay Jorvik :-)
