University Hotel is in an excellent location, surrounded by great restaurants and cool bars. The rooms are nice, but not quite as nice as the Trip Advisor photos make them out to be. The beds are very comfortable, there's a fridge in your room and a good shower. My biggest complaint about University Hotel is the noise at night. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything through the walls. During the night there was a strange running water sound going through the whole room, I had to check that I didn't leave the tap running! Woke up many times during the night. Wifi is great, and the service is lovely. They said hello to us every time we walked past, and helped us with an adapter. Be careful with who you book through though, we had to pay an unexpected city tax at the end of our stay.
this hotel has no character and no atmosphere the rooms are small the toilets are old but clean...the breakfast at the basement was fair but this hotel dosnt worth 90 euros per night...omg never again
I know hotels will always present their hotel in the best light and this hotel is no exception. Trust the reviewer photos as what you don't see from the website is the "unusual" decor... our wardrobe in our room didn't have doors. The show cubical had the most basic shower, the stairways have carpet half way up the walls, and the kitchen area is in the basement and no overly appealing.... that said, the more we explored Bologna and experienced their restaurants, I get the impression, this "rustic" look is typical of the region. What the hotel is though is in such a great location. Right in the centre which is perfect for getting about and exploring. I did see other reviews about the noise. I guess we were fortunate that we didn't hear anything apart from Saturday night when you could hear the bar noise from down the street but I doubt any hotel could avoid that. It's certainly in keeping with the budget and it's in balance to their fees. If you want more from a hotel, pay more. Simple. Great location, helpful staff. I'd say take a gamble and go for it. There are so many places close-by for food, don't worry about breakfast here. Possibly pack ear plugs in case you're in a noisy room, but the bathroom came with razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner... it's not bad!
If you want to sleep, do not come here, rooms are close to the street and there is always a mess on the street. Rooms are fine, it's just does not make sense not to be able to sleep in an hotel right?
The room and bathroom were rather small but clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast is basic and good and it is in the basement which is not really inviting. There were only a few tv channels and they were all Italian, but that did not bother us. Nice neighborhood which is not noisy during the night.
I made reservation for both - hotel and the garage. We arrived late at night, asked for garage and very surprised guy at the reception said he doesn't know anything about it - it was other guy who promised reservation and he is on holiday! SO? General opinion is that they are not very organized, breakfast is very, very basic, nothing much, not even real Italian coffee, but something that came out of the machine that only looked like coffee... The room was not big enough for family, bathroom wasn't perfectly clean... It served its purpose - but I would never book this hotel again.
I spent two nights here while in Bologna. It's a good option when you're on a budget. My room was quite spacious and clean, and the bed comfortable. Staff were nice. Location is good - close to the university area and the center of the city, and about a 15-20 minute walk to the train station. Lots of restaurants/shops/bars nearby. Area is quiet at night which was nice. Breakfast was fine as well.
Don't expect anything extraordinary the but hotel is good value for money. Helpful staff, very decent breakfast. Main touristic attractions can be reached in 5-10 minutes, lots of great cafes and bars around.
I spent a weekend here with a couple of friends. The staff was very polite and always willing to help. The location is pretty good since the hotel it's very close to the city center. If you walk you will reach the main street (where most oh the shops are) in 10 minutes. The breakfast is not that good... the "restaurant" is small and basically underground. No windows at all. A little sad as first thing to see in the morning. The rooms are just fine but absolutely not soundproof. Good Hotel overall.
Comfortable hotel close to the university and the centre at a very reasonable price. It's a nice and quiet place to stay while in bologna. Do visit the nearby piazza Giuseppe verdi, buy a beer from the street seller's and sit amoung the crowd playing Frisbee, playing music, singing, hula hooping until the early hours.
