We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights early September specifically because of its location. It is centrally located close to high street establishments and great dining options. A few steps from the hotels are the sights and sounds of Bologna.
We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in late August. It's the most expensive hotel (I believe) in Bologna. Interiors are uncomfortably pretentious and prices in the bar are eye popping and it's a very stuffy atmosphere. But, all that being said my real complaint is that we had no working air conditioning for our entire stay. We repeatedly went to the desk, got no apologies and a "someone is coming" to fix it but this person never materialized. The hotel made no effort to make amends for this and after I requested it a fan was sent up. For $350 a night, I would expect better. I am sure there are more friendly, charming and reasonable places to stay in Bologna.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Majestic Gia Baglioni for 6 nights and would not hesitate to return. It is in an excellent location, staff who were all exemplary, beautiful clean rooms with wonderful decor, luxurious marble bathrooms with abundance of amenities, full buffet breakfast with the most intuitive staff always on hand. 1pm check out was very convenient. I cannot speak more highly of this beautiful hotel. Many thanks to all the staff for a wonderful stay.
I have a reservation at the Grand Hotel Majestic Già Baglion in Bologna for October 1, 2017, however, as a result of its irresponsive concierge who I contacted to inquire about private tours in Bologna area, I am canceling my reservation and I vow to never waste my time which is money to stay here ever. I contacted the hotel concierge to inquire about private tours for Bologna area but to my surprise, it took them 4 days to respond to my inquiry. After I replied to the concierge desk with more questions, it's gone radio silence and I never heard from them again. To my huge disappointment, the so called "five star" and one of the Leading Hotels of the World, Grand Hotel Majestic Gia Baglioni does not treat its guests with care, nor do they provide the service one comes to expect from a five-star LHW. At the minimum, I expect the concierge desk of a 5-star LHW to be responsive to guests' inquiries in a timely manner which would help travelers like me to know how best I can experience Bologna so I can book a private tour before my arrival. But the end result is beyond disappointing, and I never would want to stay at this hotel ever again. I question the leadership of their management as the irresponsive concierge desk and staff needs extensive training for guest services or they should not be in concierge desk at all. What is the point to direct guests to contact email@example.com on its website if they have no intention to care for its guests who need assistance? Their GM, Tiberio Biondi should be aware of what and how his staff is doing by listening to the voice of the customers. I caution everyone who considers staying here think twice before making their reservation. What a waste of time!
At our age we like to go first class when we travel. The artworks and historical aspects here are certainly world class. Location is perfect. The staffing is excellent, friendly, efficient, and helpful. But this luxury class hotel has a few serious problems. The worst is their constantly failing wifi. Aside from their overly complicated sign on procedures and one day limits, during our stay it was not working 75% of the time we were wanting to use it. It's hard enough keeping up with work details in foreign time zones as it is, and failing connectivity is an aggravating and costly affair when you have to waste time because of their modem problems (Equally frustrating but not economically impactful is trying to enjoy stupid guilty vacation pleasures like getting directions, internet games and Angry Birds 2 tournaments). When I went to concierge, their response was it wasn't their fault and they couldn't do anything about it. Management was more concerned that they couldn't put through guest's credit card payments than my problems. Clearly not putting the customer first. Another issue was breakfast. I advise anyone staying here to get there early. They ran out of many items while we were there including eggs, juice, glasses, spoons, tables, hot "crepes", and Prosecco by 8am. Ironically, there is a sign on the buffet that they will replace any missing items "instantly " ( yes, I realize I'm in Italy and "instantly" is different here). The wait staff was very good and I could feel their pain that the kitchen was struggling to keep up. It's pretty uncomfortable trying to enjoy some excellent coffee while other guests are hovering around looking for tables. The last issue for me was the tiny rooms. I've stayed in some pretty small hotel rooms and this one is pretty close to the tightest. The hallway corridor is wider than the room and the private bath was almost as large as the bedroom. I think it was just the narrowness and high ceilings that made it feel smaller, but there was only room for one chair in the room.
My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. We couldn't fault it. Fantastic staff (very personable), hotel decor, rooms, breakfasts, and restaurant (we only had 1 evening meal there but it was delicious). Very good bar staff as well. What we particularly liked about this hotel was that after enjoying the vibrancy of Bologna it was always good to come back into the tranquility of the hotel. And I would certainly recommend a room with internal facing windows. There were a few evening concerts going on in Piazza Maggiore (2 minutes up from the hotel) whilst we were there but we couldn't hear anything from our room. The location is ideal as well. If you've been doing lots of shopping then it's quick and easy to pop back to the hotel to drop things off. Whilst it's an expensive stay (certainly for us Brits who are suffering a poor euro exchange at the moment!), it's worth the money. Thank you for a great stay Grand Majestic. PS: We would thoroughly recommend a restaurant - Da Nello's - which is 2 minutes walk from this hotel (turn right out of the front of the hotel and it's the 2nd or 3rd lane on your right). Fantastic food, staff and ambience - and very popular.
We booked this hotel in the car on the way over to Bologna. The hotel sits in a perfect position on one of the main streets of town. We arrived late and the streets were pedestrian only. There is restricted driving capability during the day(cameras are located around and will fine you if you do not have the appropriate permit). We didn't know this initially but the staff were fantastic at helping us and giving us the information we needed. The staff assistance was impeccable. We were shown to our room (stunningly appointed and looking right onto Via dell'Indipendenza. After our incredibly long day room service was available all night and it was delicious. Our rate includes breakfast. We ate in the "outside" smoking area - no one was smoking and the frescos on the walls were just lovely. Breakfast was delicious and included everything that we wanted and needed. Check-out was at 1, but we were not leaving the city until much later and the hotel were perfectly happy to hold our bags for us. Be sure the check out the uncovered Roman road in the basement. We loved this and will definitely be back!
The hotel is well located just opposite the cathedral and near the main piazza. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, for advice on restaurants, trips, room service etc. Our room had a terrace with beautiful views over the rooftops and a table & chairs. Highly recommended.
Beautiful hotel and such a classic! The hotel is in a great location that makes everything walkable. Wonderful check in experience, staff was awesome! We had a beautiful room overlooking the courtyard that was large and well appointed. Only thing I would say is the bed linens could be upgraded. The staff every way you turned was excellent... check-in, bellman, bar tender, restaurant servers, etc. really made us feel valued and important. Breakfast buffet was very well done. We ate dinner in the restaurant and really enjoyed it. I wrote up a seperate review for the restaurant. This is a great place to stay and highly recommend it while in Bologna!
This hotel is truly amazing, from the entrance through to the rooms. The staff are friendly and always happy to help. Located in the city this hotel is quite and really stunning from the breakfast area to the lounge. If you need an hotel this is the one in Italy Bologna!!
