Thon Hotel Nordlys is a perfect hotel to stay in with its convenient location, impressive service, and stylishly comfortable rooms, just like what I expect for a Thon Hotel. But this hotel somehow ups its game when it comes to breakfast. And for a frequent traveler like me who jumps from one hotel to the next, I find the breakfast spread in this hotel fascinating as it caters to various tastes and preferences. Also, remarkably, the food selections are carefully arranged with aesthetic presentation in mind. Noteworthy in the fantastic buffet is the presence of a perfectly steamed salmon and not only the customary cured or smoked salmon and peppered mackerel; the chunky organic peanut butter with 99% peanut content; and the heart-and waist-friendly cereal corner with all imaginable healthy choices if one opts to have a smart start. This is more than enough reason for me to stay in this hotel next time I visit Bodø.
Clean and modern rooms, excellent service. A 5-minute taxi drive from the airport, it is even possible to walk to the hotel from the airport! The breakfast is an amazing buffet with traditional Norwegian food, be sure to spend enough time,
Rooms are nice and clean, standard I would say. The breakfast buffet is crazy, everything you can imagine is probably there. Fresh fruit, fish, Egg, meats, smoothie and so on. Really nice! Will definitely come back for that reason. Location is good, close to other nice restaurants and downtown.
As with the two previous Thon hotels we stayed in, this one offered the same excellent standard in terms of room size, bathroom facilities, comfortable beds etc. etc. and the wonderful breakfast buffet that seems to be their trademark. No grumbles there. It is well located on the harbour area, and only a short walk to the rest of the town. Only complaint is that, probably because we were part of a tour group only staying one night, we were given a room not just at the back of the hotel but opposite a building site, where work started quite early - not what you want when you are retired and on holiday! Still, I guess somebody has to have the less favourable rooms...... We also noticed the huge numbers on the outside of the doors - don't know if these are common throughout the hotel, but it made us laugh with our fellow travellers - maybe these rooms were specially reserved for the elderly and/or short-sighted tourists?! (Only joking.......)
I tried to log on the wi-fi, but could not do it using the passwords on the key envelope and room information folder. Went down to the reception where she said that they had installed a new wi-fi and nodded at a small sign post on the desk. A minute later the next guest came and complained that she could not log in. A departure they billed me ca. 100 US$ for lunch etc. as I was on their participant list for the whole day, despite leaving in the morning. Refused to reimburse me the charge. The breakfast buffet was very nice.
Fine hotel, good rooms, great shower with good pressure, great breakfast, nice view of the harbour. Very close to 5/5. Only downside is not being able to park in front of the hotel, which means paid parking fee blocks away. The hotel Does have a parking garage or an arrangement with one, but does charge for that, which in my opinion should be included. On 2 occasions we had a nice small fold up bed extra for our daughter which fitted in the room nicely. The 3th night we had a big fold up extra bed which wasnt folded down yet and didn't fit in the room properly. That could be improved. Conclusion: 4/5.
Another hotel we spent a night in on our roadtrip up north. My first impression was not great as the hotel did not have enough free parking for it's guests. We did find paid street parking though. Let's go through the good stuff first... Location of the hotel is really nice, right on the waterfront overlooking the wharf with lots of boats bobbing around. We got upgraded, and ended up in a big room with a beautiful view of the wharf, large bathroom and a coffemaker. The room also had a nice feel to it. I am hugely opposed to carpeted hotelroom floors, so the wooden ones in this hotel were highly appreciated. Room was nice, modern, bright and clean, air felt clean and the interior is simplisticly Scandinavian but pleasant. Breakfast buffet is big and leaves little to be desired. So on to the minuses... The hotel does not have a restaurant for dinner etc, which is ok, as I guess Bodo has a lot to offer outside, but they have a Egon restaurant (chain restaurant) on the ground floor. The atmosphere at these restaurants is quite good, but the food there is well under par. The staff has a strange attitude. They are neither nice nor not nice. When the original room we were given turned out to not have been cleaned (We discovered this when we walked in), there were no apologies or anything, just a new key to a bigger room. And we barely got any "welcome" or "goodbye". I found it all a but strange. All in all the room we got, as well as the breakfast, was good enough that I will recommend this hotel.
The hotel has a nice and good location by the harbor with great view. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, good varaiation, a lot to choose from, welcoming with the little extra. Gentle and pleasant staff, good service. We can highly recommend this hotel..
Fantastic location just in front of the Molobukta harbour and close distance to the “Royal Bowling & Biljard”, but desperately need a more separate bar area e.g. combine part of the lobby with the front of the restaurant. While we were trying to enjoy our drinks in the bar/lobby area a bus-load of travellers arrived. We asked if we could move to the restaurant area next door, which was mostly empty except for specific tables set for the bus group that had just arrived, but were denied. Excellent breakfast and very clean and well organised rooms.
Stopped in this hotel on the way to the Norwegian Scout National camp outside Bodo. very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the room and the amenities provided. it was clean, very comfortable, excellent location by the harbour and convenient for the airport. The breakfast was SUPERB! Everything you could wish for in very pleasant surroundings at a sensible price. Can't recommend it enough.
