I arrived by myself at the house Thursday evening shortly before 7:00 pm. I had some trouble getting in because the code that was given didn't work. I chatted the host and it was taken care of right away. Once I got in the house (approx 7pm), I noticed the smoke detector chirping. I chatted the person back immediately but got no response. I also tried calling. The house has a big open floor plan with vaulted ceiling so there weren’t too many places to get away from the sound. I did set up that night in the lowest level and tried to close all the doors so I couldn't hear the sound. Any place on the main and upper level echoed every time it chirped. I was able to get ahold of someone the next day at 9am. They said they would send someone to fix it, but I should just take the batteries out. I explained that it was probably 12-14 feet up on the wall and there would be no way I could reach it. While I was out that day, I thought they had sent someone out, but the following day, after my husband and I came home from dinner about 7pm, it was chirping again. I immediately messaged the host and explained the situation. The host suggested we just remove the batteries (again), and I again said the smoke detector was 12 -14 feet up the wall.
This whole process was ridiculous. The batteries should be changed on a regular schedule in the home so guests can actually USE the home. While the basement was great, I still had two other floors I had paid to enjoy.
