get together with wifes relations tea coffee and finger food around eleven euro a head not great poor unfriendly service in private room about 1 hour later asked for more tea when it arrived had to go and ask for cups 50 euro for a pot of tea after paying 11 euro a head already
The hotel is a Georgian House with major modern extensions. The rooms are spacious and capable of accommadating a family of four with two children's bunk beds. For the more active it has a leisure centre attached. Both bar food and a large restaurant are available. Breakfast could be improved by a more generous ration of toast and tea or coffee. The grounds are perhaps the best maintained I have come across lately and despite a wedding celebration the room was quite. The hotel is located on the outskirts of the town but within easy walking distance of the centre. As to Birr itself, the Castle with its Science Centre, giant Victorian telescope and beautiful gardens could absorb a day and the Georgian streets are delightful. A nice place to stay and a Town worth visiting.
We got married on 9th of September 2016 and held our reception at the county arms. I have to say from the moment we booked it to the moment we checked out we were so well looked after and we felt really appreciated. Sharon and Barry couldn't have done more for us and were so helpful on every aspect of the day. The food on arrival was amazing and because it was a rainy day we had our photographs taken inside the hotel which is so pretty and the pictures came out so well. Barry arranged for music to be in the bar upon our guests arrival which kept the atmosphere really lively and I even noticed some guests dancing which was great! our main meal was just beautiful from start to finish and guests are still commenting on how good it was! We then had a midnight feast at 12pm which was simply amazing everything from hog roast to homemade ice cream cones everyone was stuffed!! The hotel very kindly provided spa slippers for our female guests whose high heels had become uncomfy during the course of the dancing! There was so many little things done for us on the day I couldn't list them all but I can recommend the county arms for your wedding reception 100% you will not regret it!! Many thanks Emma & David McGinn
Beautiful Location in Birr. The Staff were friendly and courteous and did everything. The food was fantastic and were certainly full and happy after every meal. The room was beautiful with marvellous gardens. Big thanks to Conor, Barry & Willie for a beautiful stay. We were the happiest couple.
Really nice hotel...staff were really friendly & helpful. Beautiful decor....relaxing atmosphere Rooms were large...we stayed in a room for 3 adults...had 3 single beds, large bathroom with walk-in shower. Leisure centre was great...we only used the pool area which had a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room & of course a pool...it was all really nice & very clean as were the changing rooms. Food in the bar was excellent & really good value for money Breakfast was included which was served in the Restuarant...really nice It's located very close to Birr town centre (5 min walk) & about 10 min walk to Birr Castle
We booked in here for a girlie night away, We stayed a Saturday night, the room was very nice and spacious! We had afternoon tea which was gorgeous, I also used the leisure centre pool which was also lovely and the foot baths are amazing. We had bar food for dinner. there was a band playing on the Saturday night but didn't start until 10.45pm which I thought was quite late to start. The next morning breakfast was lovely and then we used the spa which I would highly recommend,
Lovely hotel with excellent food, restaurant was chaotic, it took over two hours to get served a three course meal. First floor landing is noisy due to fans etc for swimming pool located on the flat roof, we asked to change rooms as the noise at night was unbearable. Rooms were a nice size but thick with dust, tea cups were left dirty and had to ask for toilet rolls and tea bags and milk. The staff were very friendly and the hotel has beautiful grounds.
Went here with large group (90) on a weekend break. Staff very friendly and place spotless. Rooms very good in size and lovely with en suite. Centrally located in Birr, within walking distance of the town and castle. Lovely river walk nearby. Breakfast buffet and hot food excellent. We had one 5 course dinner which was lovely but due to over commitment by hotel to host wedding and confirmation as well as our large group service was slow.
food, location, hotel rooms were top notch. can't fault this venue at all... staff very nice and helpful. would recommend this venue to everyone would highly recommend it for a wedding or celebration. food at wedding was fantastic and you were left feeling full
Myself, my husband and 3 daughters (9,7&5) have just returned from a one night stay(May 12th) in this great little find...From Michelle and Tanya on reception to Aaron and Steph..(Thankyou Steph for your wonderful banter with our girls about Monty your cat..and your faultless hot chocolates before bed!) the whole experience was relaxed and fun.The bar steaks were great too with a divine Malbec and the best childrens menu I have ever encountered..(First time I have ever seen a childrens stirfry on offer..well done) Breakfast was good and the girls loved their pancakes.. The swimming pool was great(v quiet when we were there and it was lovely we could stay with our girls until 8pm) But do bring your own toiletries. Our family room(269) was perfect for us, so well appointed, no clutter, simple, quiet, clean and with bunkbeds! There is a beautiful walled garden for walks and next time we will take a wander into Birr...and there will be a next time as we really enjoyed meeting all the friendly staff(barmen included)..and this hotel is definitely one I would recommend to anyone, we all loved it.
