Saturday overnight with dinner. Excellent choice on the menu, including Specials. Bar area and restaurant very busy so clearly very popular as a number of locals dining. Double room was comfortable and accommodation very reasonably priced. Biggar is very much a gateway to this part of Scotland with plenty of lovely scenic drives available and visitor attractions.
Stayed here for the night recently and arrived around 5pm, had a wonderful welcome from the staff, the fire was on and it was very cost, the bedroom was clean, comfortable, quiet and I had everything I needed. The food in the restaurant was delicious with plenty of choice, again friendly staff, great choice of wine and beer and brilliant atmosphere. The breakfast was tasty and service was top notch. I can highly recommend this little quaint hotel with a big welcome, great staff, superb food, comfortable accommodation, excellent location and so a real credit to the owners! Thank you.
I was attending a family wedding nearby and booked The Elphinstone Hotel a few months before my visit. I booked in early afternoon and discussed the possibility of returning to my room during the night. This presented no problems to the staff and I was given a set of keys for 2 outside doors. The double room itself was large, very clean and brightly decorated with a wall mounted television and a radio alarm clock There were 3 or 4 sockets available if I needed to charge my phone, use laptop etc..... The bathroom with both a shower and bath was a pleasant surprise. The breakfast menu had a comprehensive list including a Traditional Scottish breakfast. This was freshly cooked to order and tasted wonderful The staff were very peasant and helpful I'd reccomend The Elphinstone Hotel for both single nights and longers stays as the village is situated close to the M74
We came to Biggar for a Family wedding and wanted somewhere local to stay. This hotel ticked all the boxes. It was clean, (the kettle in the room sparkled), the food was fantastic, the Hotel staff were beyond helpful and it was reasonably priced. Even though we arrived in the middle of a busy Friday night there was enough staff to help us in with our bags and they were happy to provide us with whatever we needed such as hot milk and extra pillows. I was traveling with my disabled mother and she had no trouble accessing the room although there were a few steps up to it. There was also an en suite shower which was easy to use. There is a wonderful restaurant inside the hotel which provided beautiful food cooked from scratch. Even if you don't stay in the Hotel I would recommend a visit to the restaurant. The taxi was able to park right outside the front door and the bus stop was just across the road. I enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to book again.
My wife and i visited there today.we arrived late afternoon and were suprised to find the restuarant empty.Member of staff showed us to a table immediatley and gave us the main menu and also told us we could have there lunch menu.It was was very reasonably priced with a varied selection. You can choose between 2 or 3courses.My wife and I decided on the 3course.Our starters were served very quickly and were delicious. For our main course we decided on the roast ham and roast beef with yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes and veg.Omg,it was delicious and both meats melted in your mouth. We barely had room for sweet but glad we kept room as they were also delicious. With the food this good we were surprised that the restaurant wasnt so busy.Well worth our journey and will certainly be back,
If your expecting 5 star luxury this isn’t the place to stay, if you want a comfy bed, great atmosphere and a fantastic breakfast it is, we stayed 2 nights while doing a house move to Biggar and we couldn’t fault it, friendly staff, great service and a Scottish breakfast to die for. Really enjoyed it and it might just be my new local.
We stayed there last Friday evening with our two dogs the room was clean and tidy but very noisy during the night due to extraction fans being left on our bathroom needs a facelift the wood on the bath panel was peeling off the shower was barely a trickle and took ages to warm up however the breakfast and our evening meal was really good the young waitresses where all very pleasant apart from the owner who was a bit miserable never asked if we was enjoying our stay but had plenty of time for his friends
Robert & his staff are amazingly friendly & very professional, calmly looking after all your needs. food was awesome, rooms very comfortable, really worth a visit! we being a group of 12 golfers, mostly seniors will be back! Robert himself a golfer, is knowledge of the local courses is very helpful, great venue for golfers with several courses close by. thank you all at the Elphinstone hotel.
Stayed here for 5 nights as attending a family wedding nearby. Room was basic and could have done with being updated. Shower head not firmly fixed to mounting, otherwise an OK bathroom. Breakfast during the week was cooked to order. One day I was served an uncooked sausage. Coffee wasn't replenished unless asked for. At weekends it was self service breakfast and for some unknown reason the coffee/tea cups were smaller.
We took a bus to Biggar for the afternoon and the Elphinstone Hotel was the first place we came across to eat. The food served there was lovely! Homemade and full of flavour. Lovely fresh vegetables too. There’s a fab selection on the menu and its great value for money, especially if you order off the special menu - 2 course for £8.50! I’d highly recommend.
