The hotel staff were very efficient, especially in the dining room. A good selection of food for breakfast. Our room was very spacious and clean (I believe it was a room suitable for disabilities), and most important, the bed was very comfortable. Would recommend.
The only thing going for this hotel is that its clean. Freezing cold rooms, duning area and bar. Awful evening meal which looked like peoples left overs. We arrived at the hotel at 6 pm , checked into room , 22 of us on coach trip. All rooms were freezing cold.Evening meal which was a buffet style which was very poor. Bar staff were more interested in serving the guests from the Christmas party than the coach trip. Not enough food to go around . Not impressed.
I’m still actually here as I write this as I am so unhappy with the place, where to start?! - Car Park is at the rear of the hotel, there’s building work of some kind going on, it’s a fair walk with luggage to reception/entrance...when you can find the entrance! - No lighting in rear car park - pretty intimidating on your own - No signs directing you to reception in a dark car park with lots of building work - poor H&S - I was in room 429, trying to find the room was a mammoth task, the signs make no sense, then just stop pointing you to rooms over 420! - I could not locate lifts and so had to drag heavy luggage up lots of stairs, and I did not want to long walk back to reception - After 10 minutes walking round I eventually found someone to help - why are rooms starting with 2 on the same floor as rooms starting with 4?! - After finally getting to my room I order room service and unpack, great! - Then the TV isn’t working - After calling the main desk with no response I hang up and decide to do some ironing to make use of my limited time - front desk eventually answer and send someone to look at the TV, it’s decided I need to move rooms ‘when they can find me one’ - My food then arrives!!! - After over an hour I eventually move to another room.... I write a few reviews and rarely feel the need to rant, so this is a first but I have never been so disappointed with a hotel. After a long day at work with another ahead of you, a decent room with working facilities is all you need...this place cannot deliver basics. The only positive was the friendly colleague who tried to fix my TV.... I would not recommend this place, not even for a quick stopover, more stressful than it’s worth!
I wanted to join a local health club so came to Holiday to see facilities they offered and parked in the car park. Had chat with staff about membership fees, terms etc, Had good look around and then went for coffee in their reception area. Decided that I would join at the beginning of next month... Surprised to get parking fine of £100 from Parking Eye - no one mentioned that I need to leave my vehicle reg number at reception. Parked there for a total of 1 hour 2 mins! Outrageous!
Okay hotels have problems, I understand this. It’s all about how the hotel sorts out the problem. Firstly my mistake I forgot to book a room for that night. Quickly rectified by Kevin, who I have to say is one of the best front of house managers I have come across. Okay this bit is not my fault. The heating failed in the room. A lady called Samantha on reception offered us a heater or another room. We chose another room which was boiling. We opened the window and it cooled down. We ate in the restaurant and was served by someone called agostino, (apologies for the spelling) pizza was great and so was Agostino. It’s a bit of maze the hotel, not helped by refurbishment so following the room numbers despite being told to left when turning right it was difficult to find the room. The room was quiet clean and spacious and breakfast was really good. Despite the issues we had, it was a pleasurable stay due to the three people I have mentioned and in general all the employees I have mentioned were good. The quality is when you have a problem and it’s sorted out quickly, well done holiday inn
A functional hotel. The staff were very helpful and the decor in the public areas was very good. Furniture in the rooms was a little tired and my bathroom had a broken grab handle in it. I had very loud neighbours who would have kept me awake at night but for the fact that I was very tired. The health club had very helpful staff and a good sized pool with a spa pool on a timer. The sauna was in the changing rooms which was a littlr bizarre. Breakfast was extensive and the breakfast staff were really good. The chef even came out to talk to us. However, the bacon was rather dry and overdone and set the tone for the rest of the huge breakfast. No newspapers arrived depite one being ordered. The fault of the newsagent, we were told.
The Reception and bar area is the only good thing in this hotel, Finding the room is a nightmare through a warren of corridors like a maze. At the end of every corridor there are fire exit doors and people congregate there with the doors open smoking and the whole place stinks of smoke finally getting to the room and opening the door you are again hit by the smell of used smoke. The decor is very tired and in need of a refit, the bathroom also was of a poor standard although clean. Breakfast was a huge disappointment bacon had massive rind fat that was dripping oil, Sausages were raw, and has browns soggy and undercooked. will not be staying here again in a hurry.
I can recommend it for business trips. It is nice, clean and the staff is friendly. As it is presently being renovated you might end up having quite a walk until you get to your room. The location is a little outside of Reading so you will need to take a cab.
I will start with the positives the staff are lovely, helpful and attentive. Now for the negatives.... The chef needs to learn to cook The chef needs to hurry up, the waiting time for food in the restaurant is appalling and then sadly when it arrives it’s not all that good. And why would you bring children’s meals out 30 minutes before the adults, what are we supposed to do with the kids whilst we hurriedly try and stuff food in!! Swimming pool and changing room, these two areas desperately need some money spent on them, very shabby. The rooms themselves are tired as is everywhere bar the reception and bar/restaurant area (all the bits you can see if you just pop in). Such a shame when the people who serve you in every department are so nice.
We stayed here last night as part of a Legoland mini-break. We had read mixed reviews on here and had never stayed in a Holiday Inn before so didn't really know what to expect. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised! We stayed for fireworks at Legoland so didn't arrive at the hotel until about 8pm. On arrival ,the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had an immaculately clean family room. The restaurant was still open and we had a lovely meal with attentive friendly staff. We really couldn't complain about any of it. We used the pool in the morning and had a fantastic breakfast before we left. Ok, some of the building looks a bit tired in places but it is clear that they are in the middle of a refurbishment so no big deal for us. We thought it was good value for money and would definitely return.
