Great service. The staff were outstanding and extremely helpful. We messed up our booking but Garry went above and beyond to help us. Our room was nice and great for four of us. We had dinner at the Zenith Restaurant which was lovely and again we encountered excellent service. If you are looking for well priced accommodation in Geelong you can't go past Rydges.
Comfortable enough, but badly dated and shabby. carpet (even in elevators badly worn) looks like a relic from 20 years ago that has never been updated. Extremely expensive for what it is. Location is so far away from the funky stuff...surrounded by medical practices and lawyers.. no really decent places to go within walking distance. Avoid.
The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Its an easy walk into town. The staff at check in and check out were friendly and helpful. Think the parking is expensive for the location and considering it is an open carpark. Overall it was value for money
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Rydge's to witness a Geelong football match at nearby Simonds Stadium. Check-in was exceptionally friendly - Janine (?) has been at the hotel for many years and made us feel extremely welcome. A quick meal before heading off to the night match was a very pleasant surprise. Food was excellent and the two young waitresses were efficient, polite and friendly. Our room was lovely - simple but tasteful. The two-night minimum stay because of the big match was a bit annoying but I guess understandable. Making our way to the game (a 10-minute walk) amongst the eager crowd, and again on the way home afterwards were highlights. Many hotel residents were football supporters and the atmosphere was lively and positive. Many thanks to Janine for making our stay memorable. Hang on to her, Rydge's - she's a great asset.
Stayed for two nights, Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th June. We booked online a Superior Double Double (the room has two double beds in it) at a great price. We also requested a room on a higher level and when we got there we received a room on 6th level and had been upgraded to a Bayview room, what a great start. Rydges have recently taken over this hotel and need to do some minor renovations, the room we had was ok just the carpet was worn a bit otherwise all good. For the price we paid we were more than happy with our accommodation. Yes we would stay there again. We had no problems with parking on the street as it was the weekend and we were out during the day, otherwise pay for parking onsite if you are there during business hours. .
I have recently stayed at several hotels that used to be under the Accor wing. This used to be a Mercure, and had all of the usual decor, sprayed concrete walls and ceilings, brown everywhere. The staff were friendly and helpful, but that does not make up for the fact that this hotel is in desperate need of renovation. Reception is soulless, dark and in the 80's, lifts rattle and bang as if they are about to die. Doors to the rooms are battered, carpets stained and the Windows filthy. I feel from other reviews that I was overcharged for breakfast. Aud $28. This was a cold buffet, and really not up to a good standard. To finish it off Aud $18 for overnight parking is excessive.
We were two couples using a Scoopon voucher. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms had been refurbished. Beds were comfortable. The bar offers happy hour $6 drinks, perfect for pre dinner get togethers. Breakfast was plentiful and good value. Rydges was a good walk to the waterfront and shopping centre, it would be perfect for those wanting to see a Geelong football match, being a short walk to the ground ( our room overlooked the ground) Even without a discount voucher we would be happy to return here.
Plus: The central location is a bonus and it's quiet. Room service wasn't too bad- I'd recommend the lasagne. The restaurant has some quality entrees ie salt and pepper calamari and crunchy chips. The staff go out of their way to be helpful. Minus: The room, though spacious, was cold even with the heating on 27 (old thermostat) and no spare blankets in the room. I felt itchy the whole time I was there and had little bites all over, like flea bites. (No I don't have any pets). Hotel was understaffed after 8pm (even at breakfast), not great if there is an emergency and breakfast wasn't worth the $20x2 I paid. Food precooked and sitting out in the open not even in Baymaries...ewwww. I could go on. This place is in dire need of a make over. I'm not sure I'd stay here again.
We stayed here for one night so that we could attend a Cats game at Kardinia Park. We were not expecting 5 star accommodation having read some ordinary Trip Advisor reviews. To be frank it is not bad 4 star accommodation. It was clean and comfortable and within easy walking distance of Kardinia Park. Our only complaints were that the phones were dead --apparently because there had been a power failure ( and the number they suggested we ring on our mobiles to get service didn't answer --the TVs were very difficult to get to work and the bar closed at 11 pm after the game despite there being customers in the bar. Having said that we would probably give it another go.
Clean large rooms Slightly older style but good for a regional town Have room service Good quality beds Pleasant staff Car parking is exy at $18 per day . Slightly out of the city centre but quiet and not near highway Food outlets not really walking distance Good conference facility
