Well , the get together with friends was lovely . I just wish that we had made a better choice of venue . The food choice was limited and quite expensive for what it was . For example a waigu burger for $19 . Really.!!!! I chose grilled chicken fillet with a sauce, $28, and that is all that I got on the plate . If you wanted salad or veges there was another $8 extra for that . There are plenty of great places to eat around Geelong . This is not one of them
We had my wifes Xmas party in Geelong and had accomadation at Rydges. Was Ok except that we were 'welcomed' with a letter that said our room and breakfast was included taken care of and any other incidentals to be paid for. The following morning we proceeded to breakfast (which was ordinary) and at check out we were informed that it wasn't included!!. Sorry doesn't cut it for me- Mecure would have honoured that offer.
Easy to find & quite central to everything. Just a small stoll to the shopping centre. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. However the décor is quite out-dated, it looks like they have tried to update slightly but on a budget. The weather was quite warm while we stayed and the air conditioner didn't seem to work properly. We actually kept waking in the night as we were too hot. Meals downstairs were ok but quite over priced for what you actually got served. Most of the staff were friendly but upon checkout the lady that served us must have been on autopilot as after she told us what we needed to pay, we passed her our card and instructed which account to use, to which she responded "oh I don't need your card as I've automatically done it on credit with the card no. we were holding". She had to then cancel it as we were not paying via credit card.
This hotel is huge and imposing it would be very difficult to miss on Myers Street. Seemed to be plenty of parking some of it dedicated to the disabled. $10 for members and $18 for non-members per night. Business centre consisted of one PC and a printer, all in working order. Free newspapers available, the local Herald-Sun. Pleasant, efficient and helpful receptionists. Two lifts: wide corridors, blandly decorated in cream and puce, needs redecorating if only to cheer them up. Bedroom 217 was very large with two comfortable queen (5 feet) bed. The view was of the adjacent St John of God Hospital, in the extreme distance the sea. Clock/Radio on one of the three bedside units, it was set at the wrong time and I never found out how to correct it. Wardrobe with iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Desk with two drawers and a refrigerator. Large flat-screen TV, kettle, air-conditioning which worked well and quiet. The curiosity was that there was only one chair, office style. The lighting was very poor, no overhead lights. Needed redecorating. The bathroom was smallish with the shower in a glass enclosure. Individual toiletries, Hairdryer in the wardrobe. Plenty of soft towels. Breakfast was $22 or $20 if preordered we did not take it. The unheated pool was cold. There were no handrails at the steps. Some tables and chairs were available but only two loungers, no mattresses. Towels were available from Reception, there was not a container for wet towels at the pool, I returned mine to Reception. The adjacent jacuzzi was warm with a timer set to 15 minutes - perfect. Access was the problem, two steps with very high risers and no handrail - dangerous for the less than nimble.
Staff were friendly & helpful. Hotel is quite outdated, some mainantce required to bring the rooms up to scratch. Was no staff on at the reception when we walked past at around 2am and on our level we encounted a man sleeping on a couch near our room/elevator on level 5. At least require a keycard to operate the elevator anyone off the street can walk in.
Very comfortable beds with excellent pillows and sheets. Easy check in free wifi and easy parking. Good value hotel bar and restaurant. Good location easy walk to waterfront, shopping, city centre - bars cafe and restaurants - and city stadium.
We travelled for 7 nights thru NSW & Vic, staying in a different hotel each night, and the Ibis was by far the best appointed. The room was spacious (huge!) and quiet - it was tough to leave because it was such a peaceful haven. The only strange thing was I kept losing my bearings when I stepped out of the lift because everything on each floor is the same colour. (It made sense once I'd looked at the fire evacuation 'you are here' sign on my door.) I should probably have apologised to the people whose room I tried to swipe into before I knew where I was. Great hotel! We'll be back.
Stayed here for 1 night while catching up with friends. We booked a superior queen room and was upgraded to a room with a ocean view. Upon check in was easy and very quick. Arrived at our room and it was of good size. A king bed which tuned out o be so comfortable you didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. Desk with chair, 2 club chairs with a small coffee table, tv with timer, robe with iron etc. The bathroom was very small. You struggle to have 2 people in there together. The bathroom had been renovated and was nicely done, but tight. The shower water was very hot, pressure a bit down but a spacious shower. Vanity was a single and not much storage to put your things. But for the one night, it was fine. We had a drink at the bar before heading out to dinner. Service was friendly. Breakfast was a buffet in the restaurant. Juice was horrible, straight our of a tin. Scrambled eggs, bacon, tomatoes, breads, pastries and fruit & yogurts. You could order an omelette if you could find someone to place your order with. Staff very busy talking amongst themselves out of site except for one young woman who was busy clearing and resetting tables. Tea's & Coffees, you had to order up at the counter. Asked for our cups to be heated by putting some hot water in them as your tea goes cold very quickly. My husband was given a very strange look by a senior lady, but it was done with an effort. Overall, the hotel is fine for a short stay. It is close to shops, restaurants and the waterfront.
Booked a room on PGR site late afternoon and arrived 90 min later.Receptionist ?was very helpful and informative.Updated to a large studio room with plenty of room.Older hotel but Rydges are making improvements.Car parking was ok as there were spaces available if not street is ok.Had a drink at bar would recommend a local beer.Had dinner in Restaurant service good and enjoyed the food Breakfast next morning was plentiful with helpful staff.On checking out same receptionist and she was very helpful. We will be back even though we on ly live 1 hr away
Rydges was very conveniently located for all the things I wanted to do in Geelong. The room was clean and spacious and had everything i required. The restaurant food was good and inexpensive and I was happy with the bonus of a reduction in my food and beverage bill for not having my room serviced each day, Staff were polite and helpfull
