We stayed at the Grand Caribe in late August / early September. There were three couples; we had a large suite with a full kitchen, two living room areas, three bedrooms, three full, large bathrooms, a large deck with views of the pools and Caribbean AND a loft game room! It was spectacular! The staff, especially front desk clerk David, were all outstanding. They treated us very well, organized our golf carts and taxis to / from the resort. It was the beginning of the off season, there weren't a lot of guests. We had one of the pools to ourselves one day. The grounds are beautiful, the pools and swim up bar are well kept. The cleaning staff did our laundry as needed. We couldn't have asked for anything more. We had a fantastic time!
We stayed at the Grande Caribe from Sept 2-7th. The whole reservation process and helpfulness was seamless and everyone was helpful in answering questions regarding the room and also assisting us in booking our flight from the mainland to Ambergris Caye. We had the Penthouse- Room I1A which was gorgeous. EVOO was closed during the duration of our stay and Rain was ok. We ordered room service from them and the food was bland. When dining at the restaurant we found the food to be better although the wait staff was horrendous! The overall stay was good until we got to the last day of our stay. We rented a golf cart for 24 hours that day. When we returned to the resort in the early afternoon (about1 pm) the main pool was being drained and was unusable. In addition they started to remove the bar stools from the swim up bar inside as well. Most of the chairs from around the pool area were already taken up as well. We were checking out on the 7th and was not made aware the resort was closing on the 7th until I called the day before our arrival with some follow up questions. Now this was Sept 6 that the pool was being drained and the bar stools were taken up. I understand this was slow season but we still paid for the amenities. Later that night we dined at Rain- they were low on wine and told me I could not look at the desert menu longer because they needed it. We were glad it was our last night. Also, we had to pay our bill the previous night by 9 p.m. because although our taxi was leaving at 8 a.m. the next morning, there would be no staff there to check us out. We were told to leave the keys on the counter and if we needed anything, security would be onsite. We took a fishing excursion. Mr. Charlie was the BEST! I would highly recommend him. Overall, the stay was decent. The food was mediocre at times especially with one restaurant. The onsite store had very limited supplies form the first day of our arrival and the selection did not get better. The room was great and had an amazing view. The grounds were immaculately kept. Very disappointed that all the amenities we paid for were not available to us for our entire stay.
The resort was excellent, well kept, clean, five star resort for Belize. The experience goes from five star to four star because of the staff. The resort goes from four star to two because of the most rude taxi driver that drives for the resort. Complaining and saying so many disrespectful things because he didn't think we could understand any creole.
Everything from check-in to check-out was amazing. The staff was awesome and accommodating. Jermaine, Janelli, David, Marcos are the few names I can remember. The pickup from the airport was smooth and so was check-in. I stayed in B8. The bed was on the firm side, which I didn't care for and would be the only negative for me. A mattress topper would help. The views from the balcony definitely helped make up for it. It was slow season, so not too crowded. There are plenty of pools or always the option of sitting right on the beach and jumping in it whenever you please. There were always servers walking around in case you want to order food or drinks. Spent more time at the beach than the pools, but those were just as beautiful. There's a gym and yoga class in the morning. Also Rain restaurant is adjacent to the resort. Not a bad walk at all. I always felt safe while here. This location is great. It's about 2 miles into town. Ask about the water taxi that gets you there. It leaves about every 90 minutes. Only $5 each way. Also rent a golf cart at least one day to explore the island for yourself. That's an adventure in itself. The front facing rooms were the best when it comes to resort views. Overall wonderful stay and I'm already planning my next visit there.
We stayed in an ocean front condo at the Grand Caribe in Belize (Belvoir 3-2A). It was a two bedroom, two and a half bath condo with everything we could possibly need. It was very stylish and looked relatively new. The resort was fabulous too. The Belvoir building was located away from the main pool at Grand Caribe so it was quite but also a short walk to the main hub and the onsite restaurants. The building had a pool right behind it if you really wanted to stay away from the main pool with a swim up bar. Grand Caribe has six pools so you will have plenty of options. The swim up bar was fun and the bartenders were great. In fact, the entire staff was great. David and Brian were over the top personable - give these men a promotion or at the least a big raise. There are security guards onsite so I felt very safe at all times. We rented a golf cart from the resort and used it all week. We had so much fun driving it around the island. We felt very safe in town and driving at night. We scheduled three excursions through the hotel and were very pleased with all three. Amigos del Mar was the dive shop they used for our scuba trip and Tuff e Nuff took us on the 3 in 1 tour to see Maya ruins and snorkeling at Mexico Rocks. Pick up for all three excursions was at the dock onsite which was great because they start early in the morning. We never ate in the restaurants onsite but we did eat at the pool and in our room. Both were food from Rain and all of our meals were delicious.
We recently stayed at this Resort. It is beautiful! The grounds are well manicured and beautiful! The staff are very friendly and helpful! You are greeted by friendly smiles and a rum punch! Laundry service amazing! However, we rented a 4 bedroom, 4 bath unit for our family of 8. The rooms were fabulous and the size was great for our large group.......if the downstairs A/C unit had worked!!! Our first night we stayed at the pool until 10 PM (after traveling all day to get there) because our room was 78-79 degrees inside after dark. They finally put us in temporary units (per our request!) until the next day as we were absolutely exhausted! We were told all issues would be fixed by the following day. This scenario went on for our entire week of vacation!!! It was not until I lost my mind (got furious ,in other words) with the property manager at the end of our stay that we were compensated on the room. This room was pricey (and justifiably so) IF it functioned as sold to us!! This "issue" of no A/C downstairs almost ruined a vacation we had planned for over 9 months. It would have made things more tolerable if the management had made concessions before it came to the point of a daily ritual of excuses and no acknowledgement of necessary compensation. Instead we had to show a good amount of "fury" to get management to make it "right".
Superb Hotel, great amenities, hotel provided taxi from airport, super driver. Bar staff was always there when you needed them. First class rooms, I had 2 bed rm ocean view. Two restaurants - Victoria runs them. fabulous food. I put yes in the column for self service laundry but this is not correct. The housekeeping staff does your laundry for you at no charge- Yay!. placed folded neatly on your bed.
We traveled to Ambergris Caye after spending 4 nights in the rainforests of Belize (see my separate review of our amazing experience there). We wanted to be outside the center of town but still enjoy the island. The hotel exceeded our expectations. We were picked up from our water taxi via complimentary shuttle. We arrived to cool, eucalyptus face towels and were checked in quickly. We walked past several large swimming pools on our way to our enormous ocean view room. On arrival, we were informed that laundry service was complimentary as well. We proceeded back to the lobby to book our snorkeling and parasailing tours. The hotel helped us arrange our flight back to Belize International so that we would arrive in time for our flight back to LAX. The snorkeling tour to Hol Chan was incredible. We swam with sharks and giant sting rays at Shark Ray Alley and saw several sea turtles. Parasailing was super fun too. Since the water is SO clear, we saw the elusive spotted eagle ray from the air! We traveled by water taxi to and from town (the most affordable way of getting in and out of town) and ate seafood at some delicious restaurants. The food at Rain (the hotel breakfast, lunch and dinner spot) was really good. I recommend the ceviche for a lunch time snack. There is also a convenience store next door so you can stock up on food and beverages. Pros: Beachfront with beautiful views, easy access to water taxi and excursions, large space, free laundry service, away from the middle of town. Cons: Large groups and families tend to stay here... so if you wanted to lay by the pool without hearing the tiny screams of children playing, then this might not be the place for you. That being said, it's not a deal breaker... there are enough pools on the property that you can find a quiet spot if you look around.
I just got back from staying at the Grand Caribe for a week with my family and a friends family. We booked the 4 bedroom penthouse which was fabulous!! It was very spacious for the 8 of us, well decorated, comfortable furniture an amazing kitchen and an excellent view of the ocean. The Staff was excellent from the receptionists to the house keeping who came to our unit veryday and cleaned and even washed our cloths!!. They have two restaurants at Grand Caribe Rain and Evvo. We only ate at Rain and even went back there for a second dinner as the food was excellent. We did not have a chance to go to Evvo. Going back to the staff, when we went scuba diving each day, there would be an employee at the dock to see us off and was there when we returned. They had a swim up bar/restaurant which was very good as well. If we should return to Belize for more diving (which was excellent) I would most defiantly staff at the Grand Caribe again. Hats off to the folks down there as they did a fantastic job.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here in a one bedroom that was beautifully appointed! There are about five pools and three bar restaurants. The dock on the property is where we got picked up for our daily boat trips. It is also a stop for the water taxi.
