I joined Trip Advisor purely so I could write about the Sanctuary. Utter HEAVEN. Glennis and Yogi make you feel like you're at home from the first minute on arrival to the last (sad) minute on departure. It's a stunning boutique place to stay, with an incredible backdrop. The food is 5*, and I highly recommend doing the supper, sitting together and mingling with the other guests (we were 9 given the limited rooms), and Glennis and Yogi. As a single traveller it felt like being part of a dinner party rather than a table for 1! And the rooms are super comfortable with balconies to enjoy the scenery, and fully stocked with complementary beer, wine and tea. Glennis also looked after us with ideas for the day activities and helping to arrange them, making for an unforgettable stay at the Bay of Islands. I would recommend the Sanctuary to anyone wholeheartedly, and am most sad not to have been able to stay longer. GO!
There are very few places in the world that you anticipate are going to be good, but then take your breath away when you finally arrive ... The Sanctuary is one of those. The views and environment are simply stunning. And the hosts, Glennis & Yogi, could not be more charming, easy going and accommodating. The Sanctuary is a bespoke lodge without the pretentious stuffiness ... we couldn't have felt more at home. Thank you for a wonderful time!
We stayed one night in the Sanctuary whilst I visited my boat in Opua. We opted for dinner which was a wonderful communal meal. We weren’t aware of the timing in advance but no one seemed to mind that we kept them drinking whilst we finished a prior engagement. The food wine and company was excellent and the service attentive but discreet. Lovely rooms and an intimate feel to this boutique little resort. Will certainly come again.
We spent our first three nights here after arriving in New Zealand from New York. Glennis and Yogi were the perfect hosts. Delicious food and a bed to dream on. Great views ,so peaceful. My husband and I also added a massage. Perfect start to our trip
Thank you, Glennis and Yogi, for our stay at your Hotel! We felt at home and remember the cosy hours with a glass of wine at the fireplace. Amazing view to the bay of islands, beautiful house and great breakfast.
Sadly we only had four nights in this extraordinary haven.... it was superb..... made totally by our wonderful hosts Glenys and Yogi...words cannot do justice to the whole experience. Awesome..We became totally immersed in the view, the peace, the ambience, the food.... oh the food.... Glenys is a genius.... and of course the massages.....thank you Glenys and Yogi for providing John and I with an extraordinary 4 days.... we felt very spoilt with the added bonus of making new friends ... ❤️
Tucked away, The Sanctuary was a hidden gem. With breathtaking views from the bedroom balcony, even though the weather outside was cold (we were there in July) you felt like you were in a rainforest overlooking the sea. Glenis and Jogi were fabulous hosts and made us feel right at home. Breakfasts were delicious and if you are a fishing enthusiast, the catch of the day can be bought home and cooked to perfection. Thank you for a most beautiful and relaxing stay!
We had a amazing 3 night stay earlier in the year and the place is 'just what it says on the tin'. if you want a bit of peace and tranquility with amazing views its the place for you. We unfortunately had bad weather for our entire stay and Yogi and Glynnis went our of their way to make sure it didn't spoil it. They suggested places to go and things to do so we still had a great time. We ate out once and they arranged this for us and the restaurant picked us up and dropped us back by an arrangement they have. But you must stay in! ( at least once) we had the best meal of our trip cooked right in front of us by Glynnis, and they even went out and got us our favorite wine. If you want great personal service in a spectacular setting try here.
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our honeymoon and I have to say it was the perfect final stop. The accommodation itself is amazing, beautifully designed and built in an absolutely stunning location - the views from the balconies are incredible. Glennis and Yogi, the owners, couldn't have been more accommodating. They were so friendly, always happy to have a chat and give us some tips on the local area. They were always offering us wine or drinks (complimentary), and Yogi even booked us a table at a local restaurant as we got into Opua quite late. They did everything they could to make our stay a great one. I personally loved the relaxing ambience of the place with lovely music and incense everywhere. It was tastefully decorated and is so welcoming, especially when the lovely fire was lit. The food was also great, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts there, especially the fact that everything was healthy and homemade. We cannot thank Glennis and Yogi enough for our wonderful stay and we will absolutely be going back!
We really enjoyed our couple of days at the sanctuary. The location is great, and the views are amazing. Our room was very comfortable, and the small deck was great for some fresh air. Glenys and Yogi were very helpful in suggesting places to go and see (even though it rained for one of our days there) and arranged for us to have courtesy transport to and from a local restaurant. We also thought the little wooden placemat gift was a nice touch along with their beautiful toiletries, and the breakfast was really good too.
