River Bungalow on the Colorado, 3 River-View Decks, 2 Mi to Historic Bastrop

Sit high on the bank of the Colorado River with three giant tiered decks, two big screened porches and sunsets worth the drive. Inside, salvaged 1800s farmhouse finds meet a chef's kitchen, a deep clawfoot tub, a washer and dryer and high-end linens. Fire pit, hammock and gas fire tables. Two miles to Historic Downtown Bastrop for shops, restaurants, live music, the Riverwalk and Fisherman's Park for kayaking, SUP and tubing. About 30 minutes to COTA, 35 to Austin and the airport. Made for couples, solo getaways and work trips.

THE SPACE
My contractor spent over a year on this remodel, and it shows in the details. I salvaged pieces from old 1800s farmhouses and mixed them with clean, modern design. Big style, small footprint.

- Bedroom 1: king bed
- Bedroom 2: full bed
- Bath: roomy, with a clawfoot tub and a tankless propane water heater. Fill it up and stay until you prune.
- Chef's kitchen, stocked for real cooking
- Washer and dryer
- Spray foam insulation plus central heat and air, so it stays quiet and comfortable
- Wifi and 2 smart TVs (bring your own streaming login)
- Keurig coffee maker with regular and decaf

Outside, three decks reach out toward the river, each one built for the view. The top deck has no steps. The two lower decks take some stairs, and they are steep, so take your time. Yoga is best out on the decks overlooking the river.

THE RIVER
The river is a short hike down from the bottom deck to the boulders. When the river is low and slow, the swimming off the boulders is great. No jumping or diving, ever. There are rocks just under the surface.

Bring your kayaks or paddleboards, but launch at Fisherman's Park, less than 2 miles away. Carrying them down these decks is not a good idea. The park also rents kayaks and bikes.

GOOD TO KNOW
- Small children are not recommended. The deck stairs are steep and the bluff drops to the river.
- Price includes hotel occupancy tax.
- Price is for 3 guests. A 4th guest is $25 a night. 4 guests max.
- We're in the country and on septic, so please only flush toilet paper.
- A train passes in the distance now and then. You may hear the rumble and a far-off horn. It's part of the country charm.
- Parking for 2 cars, in front of the fence or through the gate in front of the garage. The garage is my personal storage.

To offset any 5 am neighboring train rumbling issues, we have added an air purifier to the master bedroom for some 'white noise'.

We've also put in a perenial flower and herb garden, so there may be something fresh and tasty we can offer you while you are staying at River Bungalow. Anyone say basil pesto? We will let you know what is available and see if you have any interest ahead of your stay. I will be tending the garden (mostly will be watering) every 3 days or so.

The hope is that this is a River Bungalow of rest, fun, adventure, rejuvenation, and/or romance for you! It was over a year for my contractor to remodel with a lot of passion and talent in the details. I salvaged two old 1800's farm houses and mixed it with modern/industrial design. There is big style in the small footprint! It is super comfy with spray foam insulation everywhere you can't see, and central heat/air. After the gutters went up, it was 'time to put it up for a short term rental', so everyone could enjoy it. So, 'ENJOY'!

The house and lot are yours to use and roam during your stay. The lot backs up to a steep slope to the river. There are 3 amazing tiered decks (climbing steep stairs necessary) to head towards the River. The decks were my second art project besides the house itself. Access to the river is currently restricted from the bottom deck, until passage is a lot safer. We can talk about that. Bring the kayaks, however, as there is Fisherman's Park boat ramp less than 2 miles away.
The garage is the owner's personal storage space. There is outside parking available for up to 2 cars. With up to 4 people staying, over 3 people is charged an additional fee.
I also just want to be clear that some may find the bathroom arrangement a little less private than desired. Though off of the Master Bedroom, the bathroom doesn't have a separate door into the main house or into the 2nd bedroom. I just wanted you to be clear on that in case you change your mind. Otherwise, it is so totally worth staying there!!!

The outside is still 'under construction' but should be further along when you stay. The deer are challenging my perennial garden situation, but they win if I have to choose. There are families with little Bambi too.
There is also a train that ambles by every so often. I like it, but it may rumble a bit too loud for some. There is a crossing about 1/3 of a mile away, so you will possibly hear a horn. I just want to let you know, in case that isn't for you. Otherwise, it is fun to watch it go by, when you aren't watching the river roll.

I'll be sending some driving directions etc to you, if you want to move forward. Please let me know if you have any special needs or requirements. I'll be happy to try to help you out. There is so much to do in the Bastrop area, and I'm sure you'll have a blast, and be comfortable at River Bungalow. It is a cool place. :-)

I live 3 doors down from River Bungalow. If you need anything, all you need to do is text or call me. Even if it is a 'remote control' issue, I'll try to help! lol!
We are river people! Rather eclectic neighborhood, but we share the love of the river. :-)

Discover Bastrop: Historic Downtown, Just 2 Miles Away
