Not bad to stay one night but the room 33, the one for a family with one kid becomes too small. The bed to the kid will stay in the way to the toilet and it's not confortable. WIFI is free but it's to slow. You have a machine to boile some water and drink a tea but the machine does not give me confidence... Breakfeast is too expensive.
Campanile hotels are pretty much the same up and down France. They offer a comfortable bed in a reasonably sized room, with fairly poor but moderately accessible free WiFi and fair toilet/shower facilities. The Campanile at Hendaye is no different. We were given a room on the ground floor, car park side and experienced none of the issues with flying insects that others mention. We were also directly opposite the reception, where fairly reasonable food can be had for price. We were surprised by how busy this small town was and chose to eat in-house because we couldn’t find anywhere else, unless we crossed the river, back into Spain. Staff were brilliant.
A shame really, as would have given 4 stars. Stopped for 1 night en route from Portugal to England. Asked for a quiet room and got one (40). There was only 1 teabag in the room, but the receptionist happily provided more. Husband reported good hot shower. The TV accepted a USB to watch films we had brought. Unfortunately, the weather had been vile, and the windows had been opened to air the rooms. An apparently unseasonal quantity of mosquitoes had taken up residence in our room by the time of our arrival (approx 8pm). We killed 3 by bedtime. One got revenge at 4am, when, boiling hot and unable to make the thermostat do anything other than create warm air, my limbs became uncovered. It eluded capture and struck again at 6am (face had emerged from under the duvet). Having driven 750 miles that day, and with another long day ahead, this was more than a minor irritant. The morning receptionist was apologetic and said that, when they open windows in summer, during peak mosquito season, they spray the rooms. I find it hard to believe that, at the end of May, they have never experienced mosquitoes before. To add insult to injury, I arrived at the car to find a charming 6-inch scratch, which dented the wing and left a thick white residue. Lovely. (I know it's parked at my own risk).
We stayed here for one night on our way further into France. The room was clean and comfortable, nice hot shower, tea and coffee in room. The staff were all lovely and some spoke very good English but were also willing to let me practice my French on them. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely and very reasonable too 9,90 Euro for a main course. If they have the grilled gambas (large prawns) you really should try them, delicious! You can choose to have a selection of mini desserts too, also lovely. Breakfast was also buffet style (like the mini desserts) and had a range of choices from cereal, cold meat and cheese, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, pain au chocolate, pancakes etc, all of good quality. Very happy with our stay here, the only negative we had was that the decor could do with updating.
Like all Campanile hotels this is basic - small room but with a large comfortable bed. The restaurant offers good food at competitive prices - breakfast bar offers all you can eat. Evening meals offer varied menus of 1, 2 or 3 courses. Ideal overnight accommodation.
The hotel is a bit outside the city - I took a cab between down town (there is a taxi rank at the Train station) and the hotel which was 10 € every time. Reception staff are very helpful and friendly! Rooms are clean, I booked a single room and got a double bed. Breakfast is a buffet, very generous, and is about 9 or 10 Euros. Lovely stay!
The staff here were very friendly and helpful without exception. They did their best to make our stay a pleasant one but unfortunately the room let them all down. We were in room 31. This was by far the smallest Campanile room that I have ever been in. Even as a double room it was too small but this is a three-bed room. The three beds took up so much space that there was no space left in the room to actually move. For €99 completely unacceptable. The light switches were in the headboard of the bed instead of on the wall next to the bed. Every time we turned over in the night, we banged our heads against the switch and the lights went on and woke us up. Eventually I had to unscrew the light bulbs to prevent it happening, The soundproofing was very bad and every time the people in the room above moved that woke us up as well. The “smokers' corner” is right next to the room so first thing in the morning the coughing smokers gathered outside our window and if the window was open, after being woken up by the coughing we were treated to a room full of cigarette smoke. So we had to keep the window closed and no fresh air. If we stay here again it certainly won't be in room 31.
Rooms are clean and spacious with tea/coffee in room. Restaurant on site provides excellent food at affordable prices. Woodland walks immediately opposite hotel. Within 10 minute drive ofsuperb beaches.
The room for three is very small but ok is you stay just a night when traveling from Spain to France. Will not spend my vacation there. The restaurant is also OK. Wifi is weak and it was very difficult to get a good signal.
