Hotel Del Mar

This hotel is pretty basic. The front desk staff knows enough English to help you get around. Most restaurants & shopping are nearby. There is very good night life around the hotel. There is also a bus stop nearby if you take the metro. This hotel is in a pretty good location. The free breakfast is a bit bland tho since they just serve cold food. You will get bored of it if you stay more than 3 nights.

Friendly staff who were willing to give advice when required. I liked this hotel as a base for beach, la rambla and arc de triomph and the parks. Also a nice mexican restaurant next door. Room clean. No complaints.

Del Mar is a solid hotel. Rooms are clean and basic. Beds are small but typical of European hotel rooms. Rooms near streets are noisy so request a center room away from streets. Location for train, metro, and buses is superb. Old town and beaches are an easy walk. Lots of near-by restaurants but all are very tourist oriented. Overall we were pleased, a good solid hotel for a fair price....

What a great Hotel! Ideally located for the port/beach/city sights. Beautiful breakfast included. Everywhere was spotless. Room had a balcony looking over the square. Great shower. Would not hesitate in returning here. Hope to do so soon!

Booked this hotel because of it's close proximity to the port .As soon as I entered room I felt the heat . I thought the ac was broken so I called the front desk and was told that the building had only heat no ac. There was a window which opened slightly that allowed some air in room but Its terrible to be sweating while trying to sleep. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Would not recomend this hotel.

This hotel is well placed to visit Barcelona. It is close to bus services although you can easily walk to the main areas. Good bars and restaurants are only a five minute walk away. Hotel was clean and staff helpful. The let down was the breakfasts as the 'hot' food was only luke warm - even when the buffet first opened in the morning! This would not stop me however returning to this hotel again in the future.

The "Do not disturb" sign is on the door. I am in the bathroom. The guy from reception enters...no, this is not the plot of a movie, this is the service of the idiots who work at the Hotel Del Mar His explanation: my boss asked me to look at the TV I complain to front desk to the man who tells me he is "the boss" and his reply - my boss asked me to look at the TV. Another idiot. He tells me it will never happen again The next day, the "Do not disturb" sign is on the door. I am taking a shower, the cleaner enters...you get the idea. Nobody in this hotel understands what a sign (which says do not disturb in four languages) means. Maybe it is part of their hiring process? Also the staff are rude and don't care about anything. Everytime you walk past reception some guest is complaining "we have another problem with our room" and they get ignored As mentioned in other reviews below, the sheets and pillows really smell bad. Like a sewer. In the bathroom they give you little bottles of shampoo that are mostly empty - I guess this is what the previous guest left behind? The rooms facing outwards face a noisy road. The rooms facing inwards face the lifts/courtyard and are not private. The problem is that this place will never fix its problems because it is in Barcelona so it knows that it will always be full. So they don't care and they will never care. Stay somewhere else

My friend and I booked this hotel back in September and were starting to get nervous having read some of the reviews! No need to worry! We were met by a very friendly receptionist who we had witnessed keep his patience with a very rude lady who barged in in front of us! We were checked in very quickly and were delighted to have been upgraded to a room with terrace with view over port! Room very clean suited our needs! We knew there was no kettle so took our own. There is a television but we couldn’t find any English channels which was a pity as we enjoy hearing the news in the morning. There is free wi-fi available but we could not get signed in but again no great issue. Bathroom was ideal - very clean and fab shower over bath. Breakfast was basic but my friend who is rather fussy found enough to fill her and keep her going till lunchtime. I’d certainly recommend this hotel and I’d definitely return. Thanks to all the hardworking and very friendly staff.

We loved our 2 nights here at the start and end of our cruise. Hotel very close to train station, metro, port and city centre. Great value 3 star hotel. Loved the decor. Rooms (we had 2). Compact and adequate. Shame there was no hospitality tray. Would definitely return.

No ac in room. Only one elevator worked and the stairs were being painted so we had no choice but to wait for the one half working elevator. Even after hours , once the painters left , they still kept the stairs closed. The one working elevator has problems as well and would close unless everyone in the elevator has there back against the wall away from the closing door. Multiple complaints from people every time we had to go to our room. Front desk laughed at one point and acted like he didn't understand English when another customer was complaining about the long wait. I'm not sure how often in Europe they get the elevators inspected but where I'm from, it's expected to have them inspected annually. The no ac wouldn't have been a problem given it's March and it's cool outside. But when you leave the window open , there's no screen or anything from blocking the bugs from coming in. Also there's no privacy since the other rooms all have there window open as well since it's so hot in the hotel. During the day it's not manageable and I would recommend leaving early and staying away until the sun goes down so it's not piping hot even when it's cold outside.
