This hotel is close to Catalunya Square. Unfortunately, our taxi from the airport could not find the hotel and dropped us off, pointing us in the 'direction' of the hotel. We walked for about a half an hour until we found it. The hotel is small but the rooms are comfortable. There are several local bars which are open until late and generate a lot of noise. This noise can be heard in the rooms, back or front. Breakfast was a cold buffet, plenty of cheese and cold meats. No hot food. Facility to store luggage once you have checked out for collection later in the day. Staff very friendly. This hotel is a little pricy for the facilities and comfort offered.
When staying in a hotel, there are three main things we hope for. Good location, clean rooms and a good nights sleep. Here are the pros and cons of our stay at this hotel. Pros - large comfortable bed - Powerful shower - Spacious room (we booked a superior room) - Good value for money (we paid around £65 per night) - Friendly reception staff - Somewhere to store bags before departure (however at a 2 Euro cost) - Due to the very “local” location, there were several very cheap bars/breakfast shops/local shops where products were very reasonably priced compared to other busy tourist areas - Safe as hotel doors locked unless opened by reception staff Cons - location (10 minutes walk from la Ramblas and situated in the university district. You have to cut through a skateboard area which is fine but very busy with local teens. I prefer to stay more central in Barcelona where we can pop back to the hotel if needed. We couldn’t do that here as the walk was too far each time) - Sleep quality due to noise - this hotel is situated next to the busy skatepark and in between resident flats. Therefore the noise at night was very loud with people hanging around in the local area until late. Also the walls of the hotel are like paper so you can hear when someone flushed toilet/used shower/shut room door. We had two very disturbed nights sleeps which was a shame - Our room smelled of smoke and we think this is from the resident flats next door - We did have a terrace as requested however the view was of an office building so not great Overall we did not dislike our stay at Hotel Acta however due to poor sleep at night and the location, we would not stay here again.
My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel and our room were clean and staff were friendly and helpful. It is within a 10 min walk to Las Ramblas, passing lots of food places and shops on the way. In order to get to the hotel from the airport we took the Aerobus (A2) for around 10€ return. We got off at Plaça Universitat and it was then about a 10 min walk to the hotel. The room had a working safe and built in hairdryer. The hotel offers Iocked storage for 2€ (non-refundable) to store your cases etc once you have checked out. Lockers can fit more than 2 cabin size cases inside so we only needed one lock for the 2 of us. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel but it was available for a charge. Downsides: Air con/fan in the room wasn’t great so we were quite hot in the night but it wasn’t unbearable. Shower was clean and worked well, but water leaked under the screen door if left on for too long.
Extremely good location. Only a short 10 minute walk to La Rambla. Small room but perfect for a couple for a few days and very modern and clean. Breakfast is available at an extra cost. The staff are helpful if asked but not forward and don't put themselves out which some people may prefer. We had a room on the ground floor which we was lucky enough to have a small outside area with a table and chairs, however it is blocked by a very very high (ugly) building but a very nice design if that wasn't there. Perfect hotel for a few days but no longer.
This hotel is a bit out of the way from the main sites, but the area has a nice 'local' feel with some good bars and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. If you want to walk to the Ramblas (personally I wouldn't bother!) it's about 10-15 minutes. The rooms are small but everything was clean and worked well. The beds were a bit hard for my liking but that's a personal thing. Staff were helpful with suggestions etc. Breakfast was cheap at around €9, but the selection was fairly limited, as you would expect at this price. But what was there was fine. One last practical point : we were arriving by car, which is not a good idea when staying in BCN, and it was a bit of a pain. The hotel has not car park but has a deal with a local car park. It actually looks like you can't drive down the street with the hotel on, but you can! So you have to arrive at the hotel, bail out, get the car park info and then move the car. Not ideal but not really the hotel's fault either. Anyway, I would definitely stay here again.
I booked this hotel after having a positive experience at another hotel by the same company (in Andorra). The location was ideal, we could get around to lots of attractions and restaurants and it seems to be in a really vibrant area. Although the room was quite basic and small (I could probably have done with some tea/coffee facilities in the room as I’m English!) it was lovely and modern and clean and I could not fault the cleanliness. The staff are a major asset to the place. They could not have been more friendly each time we came and went and when we suggested we had been very hot at night they provided us with a fan without any hint of a fuss. I would disagree that this is a 2 star hotel, at the least it is a 3 star and a great base if you are planning on exploring Barcelona.
WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. My friend and I (2 girls in their mid-twenties) were traveling from the US to Barcelona. We had planned every night well in advance and done our research on where to stay. We chose Acta BCN 40 a few months back and booked for our last 3 nights in Europe. One week before our trip, my friend receives an email saying they charged a random amount ($111.0 USD) to her credit card prior to our stay, even though the cancellation policy allows cancellation up to 24 hours in advance. She allowed Chase to authorize the transaction anyway and informs the hotel her card is now active for use in Barcelona. She then heard nothing in return from the hotel, assuming all was well for when we’d arrive. Fast forward to our trip: We arrive from the airport at 7pm on Sunday night. We go to check in under her reservation number and last name - they have no record. We are stumped. How is there no record yet they charged her card the week earlier? We talk to the guy at the front desk. Show him the email correspondence, providing him the reservation number as well. Still nothing. He repeats there’s no such reservation and looks at us like we’re nuts and then follows with, “Well, we have no rooms here anyway, sorry!” as if we had just randomly walked in trying to book a room. This man could have cared less that we had not only pre-booked our stay for 3 nights which somehow was mysteriously cancelled within a week and with zero acknowledgement of doing so. Asked for a manager and naturally, there was no one around on a Sunday night. After trying to come to some reasoning as to why our reservations were cancelled, we received no response and were left stranded on the street, luggage in tact, with absolutely nowhere to go. Not only is it horrifying that a hotel (a place that is supposed to be a comforting and accommodating environment), but the manner we were treated in and complete disregard for our booking was absolutely outstanding. I have never experienced such heinous service in my life. Anyway, if you’re looking to book this hotel, prepare to be stranded upon arrival and/or prepare for your reservation to be cancelled for no reason. Unprofessional service and downright rude, awful concierge.
Very nice clean rooms with bath and great shower. Good location (a bit of noise from traffic but certainly was not a probem to us) close to all amenities and metro. Would definitely be happy to use this hotel again. My friends and I just used the rooms and did not have breakfast so can't comment on that. Overall a very enjoyable stay. Thank you.
We stayed here for 3 nights, the room is incredibly small but the space is utilised well... multiple shelves around the place to put toiletries etc. It was really clean and looked good too. The smallness wasn't an issue as we didn't really spend that much time in the room and the bed was SO comfortable! There was a cute little patio attached to our room but it was too cold (and rainy) to make good use of it. The rooms have their own thermostat which was a godsend as it was cold out. The street the hotel is on isn't the nicest of streets but it's quite near everything else; five minutes from the nearest metro and less than ten minutes to La Rambla.
We spent 4 nights at the hotel. We booked the basic category room, the room is a bit small, but the bed was super comfortable and clean. The location is not the most touristy, but everything was easily accessable.
