I spent a weekend there with my wife in September, but unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the pool, as we were out most of the days. The hotel is nice, quiet, on top of a hill overlooking the coast south of Barcelona, however you may need to be fit if you're not using a car/taxi to get to the beach or the railway station (which, by the way, is a cheap and fast way to get to the centre of Barcelona). I asked for a room in the old part of the hotel, as I find modern building a bit too cold and less charming. The breakfast was quite good. We were instead unable to try the restaurant, as we only managed to get to the hotel at 10 pm (normal dinner time in Spain, though...). We chose this hotel as we were going to a wedding nearby, and on the whole we had a pleasant stay. However, although cheaper than most Barcelona hotel, it's less convenient if you want to visit town.
The hotel buildings are situated on the summit of a hill: In an otherwise rather busy area of the Spanish coast, this relative isolation was a plus for our two day conference and business meeting. The restaurant offered a great view of the sea and a very friendly and efficient staff. Easy taxi transfer to and from the airport was also an advantage.
spent a day here for a conference, the infrastructure was good, the catering was very good, excellent food (Spanish ham, etc) service flawless. The dinner was also very nice, the hotel itself looks fantastic. Mice view of the sea from the top of the business center
We had to change room twice in 9 days. We had booked a three bed room for 9 nights. When we arrived we were shown to a room with a double bed and we were told that another bed would be added. There was no room for a third bed so we were given another room, which was larger, comfortable and clean. Two days before we were due to leve, we were told to move rooms as there was a leak in the bath that was causing a drip in the floor below. The new room was a bit smaller but we put up with it for two nights. Overall, the hotel is clean, comfortable and a good base to explore, although the walk uphill from the train station is very steep. Keeps you fit!
Fair to say it had been a rough day. The French air traffic control struck, resulting in planes being grounded, and us finding ourselves in The Gran Hotel Rey Don Jaime. I think we may have caught the Hotel by surprise, as they found a bus load of weary travelers swamping them. Its a fairly large hotel, so we hoped they could cope. We were located on the balcony, which was nice, save the constant banging or the door behind us constantly banging. I'd ordered the Pork Medallions, my wife ordered the Veal, cooked medium. My meal was a bit dull and dry, which i probably would really comment on normally, but coupled with issues around my wife's meal, i felt worth mentioning. My wife's veal came very rare / uncooked on the inside. Really surprised. Long story short, the hotel staff were indifferent at best. Eventually agreed not to charge for the Veal. Shouldn't have been so difficult. Given the option, would steer clear.....
First off, I was there for four days as a part of a three day conference and the conference room was great, at a beautiful location next to the hotel. Drinks and food were provided by the hotel, snacks, light food and lunch plus sodas, water and beer (alcoholic and non alcoholic), couldn't be happier. There is a garden just outside where the food was served. The garden is overlooking the ocean and parts of Barcelona, stunning! The rooms we had were just the right size, clean and had a fully stocked minibar. Housekeeping came everyday and changed the bed, the towels you wanted (to conserve water), filled the minibar and generally made it look like day one. Exemplary. The staff was very accommodating and nice, they even let me try out my Spanish without batting an eye and answered in Spanish as well (in my experience a lot of English speaking Spaniards don't do that). They did everything they could to make our stay the best possible. As mentioned, there's a beautiful garden with a swimming pool and an old tower from the time it was a fortress. They have a pretty well stocked bar where you can enjoy your beverages either inside in a cozy lounge-type area or outside in sofas with parasols if you want to keep out of the sun. The hotel itself is on top of a hill a few minutes away from the city, so it's quiet and serene. I highly recommend this hotel for business or recreation.
We spent one night in the hotel and enjoyed every moment. The food and service was excellent and half board very good value for money. Signage, as in many places we visited could be improved. There was no mention of our room number on any of the directions. We eventually found it after being mis directed. However very comfortable and clean. Our room overlooked the fromn entrance which was a little noisy in the morning with a deliver and a conference party. The indoor pool was very warm and over chlorinated which made my eyes sting so didnt stay too long. But overall a very enjoyable stay.
We stayed here for 6 nights with my husband. We were given room with view on concrete so we asked politely is it possible to get better room view not necessery seaview but at least to see someting as we booked hotel good few months ahead. We were told ''fully booked" and man at reception told us also they allocate room on your arrival day which makes no sense. Does it mean if you arrive late you get worse room? Eventually they offered us another room which was even worse so we refused and told him we are unhappy about this. 2 days later we saw 50+ people leaving hotel so we believed they had lots of unallocated rooms according to what they told us earlier but they didn't offer us anything even though we officially complained before. It's not good for 4 star hotel. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Cleaning service was very good. Breakfast could be better, small choice hot buffet and the dishes were so worn and looked dirty that people were standing and trying to pick the least dirty cup possible. Location to station not too bad 10mins walk. City centre half an hour.
Stayed here for last night of our holiday after leaving a villa nearby. Overall just fine. Check in staff very helpful and bar staff also lovely. HOWEVER, there was one particular waiter in the main restaurant who was obnoxious and just rude and needs to attend a customer relations course. I explained in my best Spanish that I had an allergy to mussels and my main meal appeared with clams which he felt should have been OK because I had failed to explain to him that I had an allergy to all seafood. There was no apology offered and he was rather aloof. I overheard a younger waiter tell him in Spanish that he had to take note of guest allergies! We then had the same snooty waiter for our evening meal and he failed to welcome us with a smile and pushed my son's seat in to get past him. This senior waiter needs to be sacked as he ruined our meal. Waiters in London have more manners than he could ever learn! Hotel manager- get rid of him! I don't know his name as he was not wearing a badge! Apart from Mr Rude waiter man, hotel was just ok. Room smelled of smoke and there is zero to do in the evening so just think of this hotel as a one night stopover.
We came by car, and this was a Perfect Place to settle Down for a few days without having to stay in the big city of Barcelona. Free parking both inside and outside. The room is big and clean, With very comfortable beds! There is a 10 minute downhill/uphill walk to the Train station, and 15 minutes to the Beach. The pool area at the hotel is also great!
