Hotel very clean & very central. My friend and i were apprehensive after reading reviews but hotel was ideal, very modern and clean with helpful english speaking staff. Free tea and coffee in reception. The rambles is under 10min walk and the beach even less the opposite way. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room that does not face the busy main street (via laitena) as i found it too loud to sleep. I did not have time the morning after to request a room change so waited until the evening but the staff made our room change quick and easy no questions or fuss. Our second room was on the side of the building and very quiet. There is a Safe available for a small deposit well worth it to keep valuables safe. We are street wise and had no problems with the pick pockets everyone seems to mention on here.
I was expecting the worst after reading the reviews and so was quite pleasantly surprised really, which I barely disguised from the Man who let me in! Fair enough if you want a bit of luxury and room service then steer clear! The Breakfast Fairy comes about 9AM (It would appear to be an 'all day' breakfast as It's still in the kitchen in the afternoon. Maybe my fellow guests just aren't hungry) but other than the Man with the keys that's the only evidence of any staff here! The kitchen is fully equipped including laundry items and clean. Yup the showers are tiny and could do with re-grouting but also pretty clean. Do bring earplugs - the road is very busy and noisy but the bedroom clean and comfortable. If you're ok with just the basics this place is fine and is in a great location
The three good things about this place are location, strong A/C in the room, and fast and reliable wifi. But it is not worth it!! The negative reviews I read before booking gave the shared bathroom as the main drawback, so I figured I could live with that to save a few Euro. Bad choice. The bathroom was shared - with cockroaches, and the shower stall is barely large enough to turn around in (I am a thin woman of average build). The room didn't have any if the charm you see in the pictures and I am not 100% sure the sheets were clean. Breakfast is just some cereal and toast, and is not served until 9, which I guess is fine if you've been out enjoying the nightlife but it's not worth waiting for if you want to beat the crowds on any of the attractions. Reception is at another location so there is no one to help with any questions or concerns. I did ask them to help me order a taxi to the airport because I didn't know if I could hail one early in the morning. They said it would be ready at 5am (I'd asked for 5:30) but even after taking care to be ready early it never showed up and I was on my own. I would have done better at a hostel for budget or spending a little more for a decent hotel.
The location is just perfect for tourists willing to go around Barcelona and see the main attractions. There are 2 metro station near, the Gothic quarter is very close and also there are many bars & restaurants around. As for the accommodation I can say that it was clear, however if you see the pictures on the internet they are far from reality. There was almost no breakfast, on the first day we received some croissants with jam & butter which dissapeared after we came back from our tour. Next days there were just 2 types of cereals, milk, coffee, toast and jam. The bathrooms were really small and when we tried having shower in two different bathrooms at the same time there was no hot water for both. We had to wait the first one to finish in order the other one to continue. Anyway it has very good location which was essential for us, as we were not in the apartment most of the time. And make sure you call them well in advance that you are coming because they have to come in front of the building to open you and give you the keys for the apartment.
Confused? Yes and so is everyone who has booked in here. All is not what it seems! Having booked through flight centre Australia as a hotel! This is a hostel! Mind you the room where are bed is is huge! There is a shared lounge(small), shared kitchen Nd 3 shared bathrooms all with a shower so small you could not even close the door! Terrible.... And hot water I'm pretty sure was unavailable out entire stay! Breakfast I heard you ask well I'm not sure when it arrives or if it does bug at 9.40 I'd waited long enough. There is a reception for this place two blocks down the road.... Useless. Even after calling from the airport as requested there was no way of getting into the apartment complex. The other residents at the apartment block were pleasant but of course unhappy with strangers constantly invading their building. Do not stay here its been a confused stressed beginning to our holiday I'm glad we only booked a couple nights!
The photos on the Internet are much nicer than reality. Fan but no AC. Too noisy as traffic is intense. Simple breakfast. Wally was very polite. The section of town is nice.
We stayed 6 nights at this place. Breakfast was ok. Kitchen-no issues that it was shared. Location of hotel is in central town, awesome for a walk in central town and to the beach instead of using transportation. It is on a traffic road, was noisy but we isolated it by using earplugs and having tight sleep. We had balcony and it was nice to have a look in the mornings to just started morning life on Barcelona roads. Before going we read comments that bathrooms are shared and it was a bit worrying but in reality it was okay, there were 4 seprate rooms 1 of which was only toilette room and 3 of them were toilette with shower rooms, 2 out of these 3 rooms had miniature shower place, well you could have shower there but might touch the walls because of space, but the other room out of these 3 had one wide big shower place I was mostly using it after trying the first 2 ones. Worth to note that WC rooms were clean as well, you will appreciate them after you visit in Barcelona some other cafes or bars WC rooms. The rooms manager was very nice guy who helped us and was quite friendly, I think his name was Marvin. We always cleaned after ourselves in kitchen tho Marvin told us to leave and he would take care of, we only followed his advise on last day when we were in hurry to airport ;) Worth to note that we found this place only 3 days before departure from Sweden, and having what we got for the money and service, we (me and my girl friend) are happy with our trip.
All in this was a surprisingly nice stay. We had read some negative reviews but we found the stay to be above average. The room was clean, basic but for our purposes fine, and was serviced most days. Clean towels available on request, the kitchen was always well stocked. Shared bathrooms clean and plentiful. Less of a hotel more or a guest house/hostel but the staff were excellent, particularly Marvin. Always there to answer questions or assistance. The Main draw of this place is the price and location. Its smack bang in the city centre. Walking distance to most places and minutes away from the Metro. I'd use it again no problem. The only negative, but it didn't bother me much was its on a main road in Barcelona, so traffic is LOUD. But with the windows closed its not so bad and its a small price to pay and an obvious one considering such a central location. This is a budget hotel, don't expect 3 or more star service. If you spend 50 euros a night to stay in the city centre then your an idiot to expect luxury. Great hotel for people who are not uptight! :P
very dirty and showerhead broken from the only shower which would have been comfotable to use(room floor and bathroom). I did not expect much of a breakfast but this was realy not good at all. We went to the shop and bought some ourself. The aircondition was not working so we had to sleep in a room with bad air. Could not leave the window open because the house is right on the noisiest street of town (which is not the problem of the hostal, only that the aircondition was not working!). We couldn't open the window because outside in front of it was a mashine standing. Changing rooms was not possible, was all booked out. (that's what they said) I will not stay in this hostal again!!!
Great cheap rooms. No ensuite but plenty of bathrooms , so no problem. In situ staff very helpful but difficult to gain initial entry to apartments. Waited 50 minutes. Very noisy because of traffic. Advise earplugs. Slept well the second night as so exhausted. Good selection of self service breakfast. Excellent location.
