We stayed only for one night and had to leave 3 in the morning to catch a train to London in Edinburgh. So our stay was very short and really it was just a place for us to rest (from hiking in Cairngorms), shower, and sleep. The building is old but clean. "Old" doesn't mean "not good", it just means it has your grandparents' furniture and plumbing fixtures in it. So you might say it has plenty of "character". We were on the second floor right above the restaurant so we can hear the conversations until late at night because we were there on a Friday when the restaurant was full.

Very comfortable stay; clean and quiet. Large bathroom, although our bathroom window had no shade or curtains. Really nice sitting room next to the lobby, all dark wood, lots of plush chairs, fireplace. There is also a large bar that looked good, but we never made it there. The breakfast (extra) was good, and served in a dark and atmospheric dining room. Good location just a few doors down from the Main Street, and just across the street from a large free parking lot. The only drawback was no elevator.

The Deeside Hotel needs some attention to its appearance and overall condition. While warm and charming, the attention to details, even big details, is lacking. For example, we visited in May and there were still decorations from Christmas in some of the common areas. Chairs in the settings rooms are worn and very well used. It needs a good learning in the common areas. But, our bedroom was excellent. No view of anything, but very clean and the household staff did a great job every night.
