Bali is overall costly location compared to many other locations in Indonesia, especially Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi. On top of it, the island is vastly and ghastly famous so the south if the island is always crowded. Travellers seeking tranquility venture to the north, particularly east of the island. So did we, after staying 3 nights at Nusa Dua. Puri Bagus may be the top property in Candidasa as per tripadvisor but my rating of three stars would be completely attributed to two points, views from the resort and the nature of staff. So, let me start from the star winning points. We checked-in on 12 Nov at room 102 which had seaview room. Marvelous setup it is. Sunrise is not directly viewed because the location is along the mountain on the side. This is east facing so sun sets in opposite side of the island. So you have a very subtle view of the changing colours of the sky. The rooms have verandah and along the seaside are beds with shades to relax the whole day. Ours was corner villa and the population in such resorts remain limited plus the villas are spaced out so you enjoy open spaces and fine views. Two out of three nights, the breeze was fantastic. Next is the staff. From e-mail coordination to pick-up from Nusa Dua to room service to bar service to restaurant service to spa services, the hospitality of the staff is very warm. They make you feel as their family guest. Always smiling, always happy to chat and serve. Very sublime gesture. Now translate that home and personal hospitality with the charges and rates. I am sorry but the infrastructure is old and not up to the international standards. Room has no safe which is ok but the almirah is rustic with paint worn off the sides of the wall. Beds and bedsheet are far below in standards and quality than what you get in a modern resorts. It rained on 13 Nov and the water seeped from the open bathroom side in the room all over the floor, luckily only near the almirah side. So the solution they came up was that multiple staff with their gamboots on are all over my bathroom and rooftop trying to detect and fix the problem. Again this is height of hospitality that I feel I am at their home so I have no privacy and they can spend their time trampling in my room and bathroom. I was shocked. In other resorts, the quickest options provided are change of rooms if there is such a leakage. Next is the provision of drinking water. The per day rate I paid was practically more than top resorts of Nusa Dua and all I am offered is literally 600 ml of drinking water for 2. You need more water, pay room service. I might have considered it norm of the land in Bali had I not stayed at Nusa Dua because there I had more than 2 litres of water per day complimentary. Food menu is limited but there are good restaurants on main road should you want to try more. Breakfast spread is again limited but more importantly when you know that it is hot and humid climate so flies are common and therefore you should cover all the items but unfortunately egg station at breakfast buffet had all cut items exposed to flies. Sorry but it ia unhygienic from all standards. From order perspective, food portions are big. Last but not the least, is the exposure to the local crowd. I think our corner villa was unfortunate in that sense. The nearby village crowd assembles in the morning and evening near the corner of the resort when they go for fishing and when they return at evening. So they is always noise of children and adults alike. And then when you are resting on one of the beds, you would be approached by local fisherman for sea activities, etc. This actually violates the definition of private beach for me. So this kind of exposure of privacy was disappointment for me. Overall, the value for money lead to loss of stars for me which I could have given to the resort. For this price, the management should seriously think to revamp the infrastructure to meet the quality standards of a four, if not five star resorts. Be advised that there is no white sandy beach per se. There is volcanic black sand and actually small dykes are built to keep off waves along the sealine. Local fishermen's boats are always parked there so there is little space for you to take the dip in the sea.
Great hotel for one night. The beach front is small but clean and gorgeous views. The food was not bad and the room had plenty of hot water. It is basic and not luxury but the coconut drinks were delicious! We would stay again, although not for long as we like smaller more boutique style hotels.
We recently returned to Rama for another visit and found it was even better than the last visits. A few small changes were delightful with lovely big lounges on the sand outside the Restaurant lovely to have a relaxed lunch on, although they do need back cushions. The soft furnishings in the rooms have been updated and this added a lovely bright color to our rooms. Pool towels are now placed on the daybeds and you no longer have to sign for towels, the white toweling covers on some daybeds were great and the new layout of the daybeds with some facing the ocean was a great idea. Loved the new Breakfast idea and as always the food was fantastic. We really enjoy the free activities and this trip we did the towel origami, the art class, the massage class, the yoga and the basket weaving. All these classes are outstanding with the hand picked local Balinese running the classes with all the love and care you get from these beautiful people. The staff at Rama seems to remain the same and I'm not surprised as they really are a caring and attentive team. I have been in Motel Management here in Australia and I could only hope my guests leave with the beautiful experience we had at Rama. I booked for a return visit before we left and yes we did have a small hiccup on checkin but the wonderful Manager and team more than made that up to us. Special mention to the Food and Beverage Manager, a lovely gentleman doing a fantastic job. Regards Julie
Already the reception when arriving was charming. Beautiful hotel compound with aesthetic rooms, good restaurants looking to the seaside, nice Balinese dancing performances, excellent choice for the breakfast, friendly personelle. I did not feel well when arriving and enjoyed a very good light meal brought to my room. Nice pools; Good spa with Balinese massage. Next time a place to stay longer!
We stayed here for six days and had a really good time in Puri Bagus. The rooms are very big and generally kept very well. Cleaning could perhaps be a bit better sometimes, but thats really a minor. Surroundings are fabulous with direct access to the beach, where you can go snorkeling right in front of the hotel (might be a bit rough in high tide and mind the boat traffic). Pool is also nice and clean and we never had problems about getting towels nor sunbeds. Breakfast is excellent and service here absolutely above average. Even when we decided to climp Mt. Batur and came back from the trip 10 minutes after closure, then we still got the opportunity to have breakfast. Wifi is generally working - not fast, but its working fine and should fulfill the need of a vacation in Bali. In general we had a real good experience here in and should we ever return, then we will definitely choose this hotel again.
We had a perfect stay at Puri Bagus. The food is lovely, the staff are extremely sweet and polite and very good at languages and the whole setting is beautiful and restful. Any requests were dealt with promptly and without any hassle. The spa treatments are excellent and they have free yoga classes. There is a very good dive school on site (orca dive club) through which we were able to get our padi open water certification during our stay.
The rooms of the hotel were clean and comfortable. WiFi connection was working fast and without disconnections. This hotel is the best way of starting a restful vacation. On the other hand, the local center is rather far away and there is not much to see. The toilet was the most exceptional toilet ever; no roof at all and we shared the same walls with the next door neighbor, also noises from the each others toilet activities.
We stayed here because of the paragliding tour my husband was doing. They fly off the hill beside resort. First impressions were of a calm professional resort, we arrived later than expected because it took 2 1/2 hours queued up immigration at airport, ggrrrr, so we were tired and cranky on arrival but they made it pleasant and quick to check in. Bungalow is large and spacious, hard bed but ok. Only two pillows so I asked for two more, no problem. Bathroom at first glance is beautiful, partially outdoor shower is great. Then on closer inspection we noticed that it needs updating. Toilet seat is marked, not dirty though. Hairdryer is so old it seems dangerous. It gets very hot in my hand. Definitely needs renewing. Bathroom cabinet has a definite slope to it, needs propping up. The tv was old style and really really small. In 21st century there is no excuse for this type of tv. All staff were wonderful, nothing was a bother, everyone says hello. Especially liked young bar server, but can't remember his name, great smile. We were not harassed by hawkers on beach, once a day the boat drivers might ask if you wanted to go out. Short pleasant 10 min walk to Main Street. Great resort that just needs minor improvements to bring it up to speed. Recommend.
Ideally located in the south-east part of Bali, this very cosy beachfront resort is a good option for those seeking a balanced cultural and diving experience in the Island. The staff is extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. The beach however is not to be recommended-A short, unexpensive boat trip will lead you to white sand beach in 15 minutes. The on-site Orca diving club will allow you to discover the underwater beauties of Bali. Delicious and affordable meals, pretty comfortable hôtel... Excellent spa services... but the best part of this remains the smiling balinese people who will make your trip unforgetable.
The sea view rooms are only metres from the breakwater and the views are spectacular. Rooms are very spacious, we liked the outdoor bathroom concept and didn't have a problem. With mozzies. Staff are wonderful and meals were good by Bali standards for This location over 2 hours away from Kuta. We also had the pleasure of taking a snorkelling tout with a local fisherman in his traditional boat which was a bit daunting at first but turned out fine and was absolutely idyllic and personalised not being part of a big group. No picking up from multiple locations just walked straight out our room and 20 metres to the boat!
