Stayed at the Kamandalu resort in dec 2017 after staying at Alila. Beautiful grounds, very spacious pool villa and rooms were well appointed. Yoga in the morning is a must as the vistas are sensational! Pools were kept clean and overall not too busy a resort Breakfast was ordinary, lacked any wow factor although service was adequate. Biggest downside was the club room or village club. You are entitled to only one soft drink and one cocktail per day from 6-9pm. Anymore and you will be charged. Notwithstanding, the staff/butlers at village club were sensational
Kamandalu Resort is a pearl of peace in the island of Gods. We stayed for more than a week and we loved everything here. Magic calm and beautiful environment. You are totally immerse in a tropical nature. Our private villa with garden and daybed outside is a special place for us. Bedroom super clean and the bath towels with good perfume of clean is a special plus. I can continue to describe our special stay here. But I would like to focus on our special treatment during eating time. We have a severe celiac disease so we need restrictedly GLUTEN FREE meals. Here you can find what you are looking for. Gluten free meals either international or balinese kitchen. We found many courses good for us. From the special balinese recepies to the gluten free pancakes and also special bread prepared for us in separate pans. Every day a special dish from the kitchen and also in the swimming pool area we dated a special gluten free club sandwich! It is so hard in south East Asia find places where you can feel comfortable with this needs! All the staff is super professional and more of all is happy to help you in your needs. I really would like to thank personally everyone. Pak Widara the food and beverage manager is a special person for us. Even if super busy every day he took time to spend with us and exchange impressions and words. We really think is a special person. But also the chef Anton and the bakery chef are really special. Satria that has the best soul we can say….Cok… the girls on the restaurant Wayan, Suartini, Ika, everyone made a good job with sincere smile and respect for our privacy. No one it was to much invasive. During my stay in Kamandalu I had yoga session in the morning. that is included in the package. Really really powerful, special place to do yoga in this room open air in the forest….wow! this is special. The swimming pool area is super clean and the perfect time to have a drink is inside the pool with music not to much aloud… We did a lot of activity aroun and in the resort, so at the end of our holiday we always say good bye with the sincere hope to come back again in this place that now we feel like home.
The resort was such a beautiful place for a honeymoon. They gave us a complimentary upgrade to a garden villa because we were on our honeymoon. The villa itself was huge and so tastefully decorated. We had a day bed on the roof and a huge room. It was very clean and the wooden roof and flooring made it even more alluring. The food was good too. The property was big and we could wander around in the very pretty surroundingsm overall thumbs up for couples!
We met up with family at Kamandalu and it was our first time in Ubud after many visits to Bali. We did worry a little that the resort was some years old and had seen a few reviews suggesting it had faded. Those reviews did not represent how we saw the hotel and and we felt the resort is maintained at the absolute highest level. We didn’t feel any ‘tiredness’ in the room or the property anywhere. The hotel staff were great and that’s what makes a hotel. We had all booked ‘club’ rooms so we had the benefit of club staff but I don’t think it really made a difference, all the staff are lovely, helpful and will do anything to make your stay great. On the last night we wanted a BBQ for the 6 of us. Initially (we booked rather late) the hotel said sorry they just didn’t have the staff to do it, but they found a way and they’re doing it, it’s being set up now and it’s going to be a lovely last night. We think for a hotel of this caliber the food and drink prices are quite reasonable, even transportation has been of a cost we thought was fair. We weren’t sure how this hotel was going to work out, thought it might be a little old and everything full-price, we were certainly wrong there and it’s been a great week and we will be back. Oh and we were here for New Year and the evening the hotel arranged was not cheap, but it was really good and everyone had the best time.
Lovely room which had a terrace but not advisable to sit outside in the evening due to mozzies. Mozzie spray provided in each room which was a nice touch and very helpful. Outside shower was just a little too primitive for us and for older visitors like ourselves, the bath could have benefitted from a non slip mat. Overhead shower was at waist height so you had to sit in the bath to shower your upper half. Two points that maybe the hotel should consider - if you want to eat in the restaurant on the traditional folk dancing night you only have the choice of the set buffet which isn't every ones cup of tea, so to speak, so the only other option is to then eat at the poolside restaurant which is outdoors. We would have much preferred to have tried some more traditional Balinese dishes in the main restaurant as we had really enjoyed the food we tried there on the previous evening. Also the infinity pool is quite small and when we went to use it it had been taken over by two young couples, one taking all sorts of underwater photos of each other and the other enjoying a floating breakfast even though it was almost midday, and also having lots of photos taken, so we felt quite awkward and returned to the main pool.
Nice resort but too overrated. Be prepared for extra charges if you’d like to check out their view points. I stayed in other resorts in Ubud before and found this resort subpar. Guest service staff had no idea about spa special offers were though the poster and flyer were there. However, breakfast is only great thing, staff at breakfast were very attentive. The main is old style. With our surprise the infinity pool was under maintenance without notice. With many nice hotels in Ubud, unlikely that I ll return to Kamandalu. Don’t expect too much, you may be fine.
Pros 1. Good location 2. Beautiful views 3. Friendly staff 4. Traditional 5. Large bed 6. Outdoor shower for room 7. Regular shuttle bus 8. Ducks in rice field 9. Free Yoga classes 10. Little gifts and cute notes given at bed time Cons 1. Bath tub needs a redesign, shower head was broken in bath 2. Food expensive and small quantities 3. Activities and extras were pricey 4. Staff didn’t want to go extra mile 5. Lots of stairs - mobility issues 6. Infinity pool not up to standard 7. Room was tired and needed renovations 8. Food quantity was low at breakfast 9. Cocktails low in alcohol content Overall a good stay, certainly enjoyed but for the price of the stay it needs a bit of TLC. We didn’t get the wow factor, there was low occupancy because of Mt Agung so staff should have been at hand but seemed to be busy with other things. The resort is 20 years old and feels that way, management/staff really need to go through the place and fix up any walls/fixtures. Food quality and quantity and price needs to be reviewed and staff need to be more attentive at breakfast time.
We stayed here for 3 nights and was the best decision we made. The hotel was magical. Unfortunately our baggage didn't arrive on time but the staff were very helpful in enquiring on behalf of us and kept us regularly updated. The friendliest staff I have ever seen. Food was amazing with plenty of variety. Will definitely visit again.
we booked here for the good reviews and were a bit disappointed. positives: - great room, huge bed, nice bathroom and outside shower - staff all very nice and all knew our names at breakfast - room service was quick and even the ice cream made it in one piece negatives: - we had lunch by the pool and it was less than average; oven like chips, burger was weird texture, limited choice - no sunloungers with shade down by the infinity pool overlooking the jungle - no access to the swing in the jungle, it was shut off this would have probably ranked higher if we hadnt stayed at some other amazing hotels in ubud
Kamandalu Ubud is magnificent! We had the most wonderful honeymoon here and plan to be back in the next year or two. We bought the adventure package and loved all of the activities it provided! The food is SO delicious and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We travelled to Siem Reap, Cambodia and the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand following our stay in Bali and none of them compared to our experience at Kamandalu Ubud!
