It is generally hard to find a clean, safe and cheap economy hotel while traveling. This hotel is an exception to the rule. The room was clean and remodeled with excellent cable TV, a nice bath/shower with plenty of hot water and new bedding (albeit lousy pillows). The economy breakfast was also better than expected with surprisingly edible hot eggs, waffles, etc and typically weaK coffee. Staff was friendly and helpful. I wish all Economy Lodges were like this place.
I don't think I have ever written a totally negative review, but this place takes the cake. This was move-in week for college and this hotel was pretty much the only one with vacancy, and no wonder at that The rooms are "No Smoking", but as is obvious from the stale stench, that rule is little regarded by the usual patrons. Large groups of men were congregated outside the lower storey rooms (with the room doors left open), well into the night. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the bathroom, but when I pulled back the sheets to go to bed, there were clots of blood and crusty stuff on the sheets. Not stains that did not wash out, but straight-up blood and whatever the other was. It was obvious the sheets had not been changed. When I went to the office (I had to physically go as they will not answer the phone) to let them know, I was told by the night clerk, "the maids usually do a good job". Not an apology. They did change me to another room, but she only apologized--and grudgingly so--after I mentioned none was given. I also questioned how I would know the sheets in the new room had been changed and she said I was welcome to look at them--but not in a nice way. The sheets in the new room were clean, but there was a dead cricket that had obviously been there awhile. Although cheap, you absolutely will not get what you pay for here, and the attitude and customer service is non-existent--at least with the night clerk. I would value a night here at about $7.50. Stay away.
We have mostly stayed in Choice brand hotels on our USA road trip, and at different price points, most have been very good but this one definitely needs a deep clean. Room was ok but outside corridors are grubby. Room was quiet and comfortable bed, great eating options within walking distance. The manager that welcomed us was excellent, the lady that was on breakfast duty was very distant and did not want to talk or be helpful.
Made the mistake of waiting the day of arrival to book a room, there was an event at AU that brought in bus loads of college students and the only room available with two beds was this hotel. Unfortunately, the room was a smoking room and the smell was really bad. When I mentioned this to Darla, the front desk associate, she offered to treat the room using a ozone machine, which she brought to the rooom herself, and it worked! Otherwise, the room was clean with comfy beds and free WIFI and right next to a Waffle House. The only isue I had was the bathroom door that that had greasy hand prints all over it. I cleaned the door myself and all was well. Thanks Darla for helping us out and for ensuring we were happy campers!
We were content with our stay here. We were in Auburn for a tennis tournament. Motel was centrally located, we were able to get to campus, tennis venue and restaurants easily. Breakfast was fine and staff were friendly.
We used to stay here a lot when we went to Auburn football games often. This past Friday night we stayed for one night. It had been years since we had been there. The good news was it was very clean other than one bedsheet had a cigarette burn and a yellow stain. The yellow stain was in a straight line, so perhaps it was a sun stain or something. Also a plus was an up to date wall mounted TV, and one of the best shower heads my wife and daughter had ever used. Another nice touch was four charging stations for your cell phones (two plugs and two USB ports). The not so good was the beds were too soft and the pillows were poor. The furniture was old and scratched up in a lot of places. Gone were the days when they gave you a certificate for breakfast next door at Waffle House. Instead, they had a hot breakfast they provided (we did not try that.) The staff both at check in and out were very nice.
This place is beautiful, excellent breakfast, excellent DirectTV, bedding very clean, people friendly, BUT .. poor housekeeping work. The dirty carpet and papers from the previous guests, the stinky microwave, the coffeemaker followed with the leftovers, the base of the refrigerator was dirty. There was no sugar for the coffee. The next day there was no service, no coffee and sugar, no towels, we were full of garbage. This is unacceptable for this price! It is a shame with the quality of this hotel that has such a poor housekeeping service. When I return to Auburn in two weeks I will go to another hotel.
We have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed, we always are taken care of by Chris and he is the friendliest guy you will ever meet. Even when his back is hurting he still is smiling and never lets it show. The rooms are clean and comfortable as well. Breakfast with sausage gravy and biscuits is always a great way to start the day
The Econolodge is a friendly, clean place to stay in Auburn. I arrived late from the Atlanta airport. Jasmine at the front desk made a special point of walking me to my room. Everything in the room was very fresh and clean and the sheets were crisp and the towels fresh. It is conveniently located near the Waffle House (open 24 hours).
Stayed for 1 night while visiting Auburn. We had a 2 queen non-smoking on the second floor. Beds were decent and rooms were fairly clean. They could do a slightly better job, some crumbs hiding along the wall edge, but nothing major. I did notice the bottom of my socks were slightly dirty, but nothing too extreme. This may be related to the high number of construction type workers that were staying there. I saw several place their boots outside of their rooms. Breakfast was eggs, biscuits, gravy, assorted muffins, and make your waffle. Staff was friendly. No issues when we asked for extra towels. Towels were soft and fluffy! Shower had super water pressure! For the price, location, and what you get, it was a great value. I would have no hesitation staying here again. My only complaints are there is no elevator, and that there are smoking rooms, so when you leave your room you may have to smell others smoking.
