Nice hotel, staff is nice, decent restaurants nearby. Farther to downtown than I thought, where all the action is. My biggest issue was that I was bit by a mosquito no more than 10 minutes after getting inside my room, and it happened multiple times during my stay. I told the front desk agent and he just laughed it off. They keep leaving doors to outside areas open when it's 90+ degrees out.
The location is good, but the rooms are a bit worn, especially the bathroom. The shower was full of temperature related surprises, the swimming pool was closed for renovation though there didn't seem to be any work in progress. Ask for two cleaning ladies talking loudly outside your room for 6 hours a day, everyday, as I apparently did so you can immerse yourself in the local culture.
When you think of a crown plaza standard, you usually imagine a high level.. but not in this case.. I'm platinum member of ihg.. and they gave me an upgrade to a suite... but apparently my room looked like a normal double room with Wi-Fi not working during all 3 days of my staying. I was not able to work. I complained several times but nothing changes.. The swimming pool was not available because it was being rebuilt.. but no one told me this during the reservation. The position of the hotel is in the old downtown but all new buildings, restaurants and life are far from this hotel. However staff is good..
This review is a composite of two short stays at this hotel within a week. The first was a quick overnight stay after a late night arrival. In that case, my impression was largely favorable. The staff were outstanding, and I had a large and comfortable--though admittedly dated--room. The late night snack provided was very good. Had that been my only stay, I would have given a relatively high rating entitled, "Old World Hospitality." The Front Office staff at this hotel are excellent and will go out of their way to take care of their guests in a genuinely hospitable manner. Unfortunately, my second stay was another matter. Though a two night stay this time, I was given what was arguably the worst room in the hotel: very small, dirty carpet, piece of trash on the floor, and a view of a ledge with numerous air conditioning units surrounded by trash! To top it all off, I had an early morning (04.00) departure for an early flight, and, that night, they had a noisy party outside with loud music starting at 22.00 that was easily heard in my room as though there was no window at all. Though the music was good, it was inexcusable to be disturbing the sleep of actual guests that need sleep in that manner at that hour. I used earplugs and made the best of it. Had that happened in the US, I would have seen the manager and demanded compensation. Inexcusable! What good is a hotel if the guests can't sleep? In summary, the Front Office staff is to be commended for their excellence, but the ownership and senior management of this CP needs to wake up and clean up their trash, renovate their tired facilities, and be more considerate of their guests when scheduling parties. From looking at their replies to past reviews, one can see that they always say that renovations are planned, etc. They have been saying that for two years! Until they decide to actually do something to bring their facilities closer to CP standards and not just make empty promises, it is time for guests to vote with their dollars and give this CP a miss. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is the good first stay and the excellent Front Office staff.
A good hotel, up to the crowns plaza standards ... the outside space could be taken care of in a better way and the rooms definitely need some renewal. I have to highlight the appreciation in seeing a pretty complete Gym ... Personnel overall accommodating and welcoming !
I stayed in this hotel for a week for business, as a member of IHG I'm used to a certain standard which this hotel did not fully provide. Pros: Friendly and helpful staff Comfortable bed and pillows Decent restaurant Great Wifi Cons: Noisy air conditioning. The space needs renovation, it feels old and sometimes dirty. Offered airport shuttle on booking.com, but charged for it. The shower did not work properly and it was not fixed during my stay.
This hotel should have to offe nice service , rooms and moder installations due the price you are paying for night. What I have received is dirty room and very old hotel with a poor service attention so this is not the best choice in Asuncion
The room was excellent, although the comum places had this weird smell. The hotel was being remodeled, I wasn't warned that the swimming pool was closed, that was a big disappointment. The location is good for people who want to visit the center of Asunción.
While you might not be treated to all the classic luxury elements of a typical Crowne Plaza hotel, the hotel does make you feel at ease and comfort and is a respite from the chaos of the city center where it is located. LOCATION: This is the highlight of the property actually. Located very close to the old center and most of the key attractions , you can easily walk it to all important points of interest. DINE + DRINK: They have a decent in house restaurant that serves as the Breakfast venue. The coffee shop near the lobby whips up some mean espresso drinks! ROOM: I stayed in Room 511, so this review is based on that; VIEW: SIZE: Very spacious room ;AirCon: Perfectly functioning cooler that saved me from the harsh summer heat ; Bed: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep ; Bathroom: Stand in shower; Toiletries: Very random and not so nice local toiletries FACILITIES: Decent sized pool good enough for a nice swim. The highlight of their health facilities is their nice Gym. Since it is also open for local members, it is of high quality and comes with a good set of free weights, machines and workout stations. Also has a personal trainer in play. They also have a Spa on site SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and like a royalty. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out hundreds of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment in multiple languages
I went to Asunción for business as a foreigner so I can't comnent on the area. However, the hotel is a regular fare crowne plaza. The room was comfortable and clean and staff was quite nice and accommodating, allowing me to do an early check in and letting me have breakfast on the IHG lounge while waiting for my room due to my status. Recommended stay and far better than my regular hotel in Asunción (Guaraní Esplendor).
