Very pretty area in the mountains; quite a walk from the train station, but there's a shuttle with a very good, kind, and informative driver. Unfortunately there aren't many trains at the station, and the shuttle starts after the first train leaves (the next leaves several hours later). Breakfast was good, dinner was good but the same every night and very very expensive (8000 Y per person for a buffet). Not much in the way of directions to local attractions like the volcano hikes etc. although they do have a book telling you about local attractions (in Japanese; the staff also don't speak English, which isn't an issue really but it would be nice to have written guides in English). A car would be very helpful if you're staying here.
