Newly renovated Kumamon room made will make you smile. There are many photo opportunities with Kumamon in the property. Breakfast buffet is highly recommended.
We stayed at the Kamenoi Hotel Aso for two nights while visiting family in the area. We are from the US and found the hotel to have great amenities and many food options. The onsen was also very nice. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Beautiful hotel and fabulous view from the room. Delicious breakfast and dinner buffet. The entire hotel is pretty accessible, I guess, because of the ageing population? Onsen facilities really need some updates as that was what I was most looking forward to but unfortunately. I wonder if the jet spa was designed for disabled guests as you either have to kneel or squat to use it. There’s no sauna in Onsen, which is my thing, and a couple of areas are not in use. I wonder if they used to be sauna or steam room.
It provides a good Japanese hospitality as usual. The buffet breakfast and dinner are good (we shouldn't book them for both nights as we were just too full after the first night). The hotel could invest in renewing some of its facility but it was still a pleasant stay.
My only complaint is that the breakfast finishes at 9am which is far too early for European guests.
Staff were great and attentive, nice little fruit farm close by. But hotel is a bit isolated so need to drive out to go elsewhere. Had a bit of kids toys you can borrow to play both indoor and outdoor that the kids loved!
We booked Kumamon themed room. The room was neat & nice and kids were happy. The buffet options and quality were good and staff were helpful and friendly. Onsen was good with a few pools for choices, indoor & outdoor.
Room was a bit tight for 4 people. Normally the beds are prepared for sleeping at the end of the day but it was not the case in this hotel. Dinner and breakfast were good- big spread and delicious.

Hmmmmm….
Hotel sits on lovely grounds, with the mountain ranges as a back drop. Parking is a breeze. The rooms are really basic and the in-room bathroom is tired and not well maintained. Availability of games, grounds makes it more suitable for young families
The room is a bit dated but overall still a pleasant stay. Room is spacious with a good view of Mt Aso. Dinner included is very so-so, breakfast is better. Public bath is fantastics with several onsen and an outdoor onsen. Good family hotel.
Fantastic stay at hotel kamenoi with the panoramic view of the mount aso greeting us every morning and star gazing at night. My kids absolutely love the huge grass patch and the myriad of toys, sports equipment like baseball, curve ball and soccer balls to keep them occupied. The outdoor onsen is a must try. Definitely recommend this hotel to fellow travellers
Very pretty area in the mountains; quite a walk from the train station, but there's a shuttle with a very good, kind, and informative driver. Unfortunately there aren't many trains at the station, and the shuttle starts after the first train leaves (the next leaves several hours later). Breakfast was good, dinner was good but the same every night and very very expensive (8000 Y per person for a buffet). Not much in the way of directions to local attractions like the volcano hikes etc. although they do have a book telling you about local attractions (in Japanese; the staff also don't speak English, which isn't an issue really but it would be nice to have written guides in English). A car would be very helpful if you're staying here.
Negatives: no gym and the onsen is a bit old.
Positives: plenty of free parking places. The included breakfast and dinner is fantastic. Beautiful view from the hotel room. Can see Mt Aso from the room.
