The room was great, you couldn't beat the location right in the heart of the town, and they had a very nice breakfast spread (with the option of drip brewed coffee, or the attendant would bring you a cappuccino or espresso). But what made the stay a really fantastic experience was the truly excellent service of the staff. They were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the woman at the front desk who helped us, but we were in town for a few days for a wedding, and she literally called every taxi driver in the town to make sure we made it to where we needed to go.
If you are going to Cortona, stay here! Wonderful, historic hotel one block off main square. Three couples for a Sunday night. Staff is excellent. Thank you Gabriele, Sagid and Matteo. Rooms are outstanding.
This hotel could not be more centrally located in Cortona! Steps away from one of the main piazzas, it is extremely convenient. Gorgeous old Tuscan splendor decor, and an extremely accommodating staff make staying at this affordable hotel a no brainer. Very helpful parking our car for us during our stay. Excellent free breakfast provided each morning.
We have been to Cortona more times than I can count but always from a house we rent in a nearby village, so we had never stayed in the town itself. This was a short autumn trip and we stayed in town for four nights. I think it will become a regular fixture! Our suite was one of the nicest hotel rooms we have stayed in - huge but really welcoming and comfortable with a wonderful terrace overlooking the lower town and the countryside, gorgeous views from the many windows, a good sized bathroom and huge bed. So comfortable than it was a pleasure to return after energetic explorations and just enjoy being there. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and took care of parking our car each time we returned - a real bonus. The hotel is really well placed to explore this lovely mediaeval town, and there are numerous restaurants and shops nearby, as well as any number of remarkable churches and museums. The hotel has no restaurant but offers a good breakfast. The only extras I would have liked were a full-length mirror (to check out those newly acquired boots!), tea-making facilities and a proper shower, not just a bath. But none of those would stop me going back to this room!
We arrived here for our anniversary trip on the 20th of October. Welcome was very friendly and they parked our car for us for €20 a day which was invaluable as there is limited parking inCortona and a huge hill to walk up to reach the hotel. We were shown to our room on the third floor. Very spacious and clean. No view to speak of. Shower very powerful. Mini bar full of water bottles charged at €2 each. Due to the time of year the hotel was very quiet. After dinner one evening we returned to the hotel hoping to have a drink before bed only to be told the bar was not open at that time of year. We were offered a drink in the lounge although this was served as room service and charged accordingly. We were quite surprised that the bar was not available as it had been advertised when we booked. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 10 am. The choice of food was minimal. Fruit consisted of grapes. The juice appeared to be straight from a carton. We had breakfast out one of the mornings as it wasn't particularly appealing. All in all I would say this hotel was a nice comfortable place to stay. The staff were always friendly and the rooms were cleaned daily. However I would say that it was probably over priced for what it was compared to some of the other hotels. Judging from booking.com it is one of the most expensive hotels available and I'm not sure it should be.
We have returned from a few days in Cortona where we stayed at the hotel San Michele. We booked this hotel on the premise that it was the best hotel in Cortona, as the price suggested, but in truth there a quite a few niggles that makes this really not the best hotel. Staff - Very friendly, could not fault them at all. The hotel itself needs improvement, it is advertised as having a bar, during our stay this was closed. Good beds, standard room facilities, wifi good, good showers, very good location which I fear they are dependant on. Breakfast - Very poor, no fresh fruit apart from a few grapes and an apple in a bowl, poor quality cereal, bread and cooked options. This was a real disappointment. The thing that really lets this place down is the cost, €120 a night. Which is fine if it's worth it but no way, if they are charging top dollar they could chuck a few bottles of water in the fridge for free but they charge for these, the quality of the coffee is not very good compared to any of the cafes in Cortona and your forced to get room service as there is no bar, even if you only want a coffee. And then the poor breakfast on top of this just leaves you thinking was this really worth the money, and the answer is a no. I sum up my reviews with a 'would I come here again?' And if you are reading this you would have guessed by now it's a no. Better hotels available for less money, no brainer.
Our GPS got us lost trying to find the hotel upon our arrival...we called the hotel and an employee walked several blocks and drove us to the hotel...customer service...you bet. The desk clerk, the bellman and the house cleaner were sincere and dedicated to make our stay memorable...the room was fine and the bed was awesome.
We booked this hotel because of its great location in Cortona and because we could park the car there. The car parking was a great help if a bit expensive at 20 euros per day but I guess they don't have any competition and can charge what they want. Our room on the 2nd floor was a reasonable size, well furnished with antique style furniture and very quiet. The bathroom was also quite large but had the tiniest shower cabinet in one corner that this 6'2" fellow found very constricting! The bathroom definitely needed an update. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of breads, croissants, hot food. meats, cheeses, etc. The staff both in the dining room and at reception were friendly, helpful, multilingual and knowledgeable. When we needed our car it was brought promptly to the front door. I haven't given the hotel 5 stars because despite all the good things in my view it wasn't quite the four star establishment that it claims. We found it really disappointing that despite some websites saying there is a bar and lounge it didn't have this so there was no way of having any thing to drink in the hotel especially as the bedroom minibar only had water bottles in it! The bathroom was a a bit tired in particular the shower. Despite claiming that coffee, tea, etc were available in the lobby this was not the case and therefore there was not a convenient way of enjoying a beverage in ones room. This said it is a lovely hotel in a beautiful old building staffed by really friendly people so don't be put off!
Stayed for 6 nights with friends. Room ok bathroom very old fashioned could do with a make over. Comfy beds sheets changed daily , room clean and tidy. Breakfast very boring no variety went out for breakfast in the end. Struggle to get tourist information out of the staff, hard work. Smiley and pleasant seems to be a lack of management.
We chose to stay within the city walls this time around and it was a good decision. The hotel is located close enough to the main piazza to not miss anything but far enough to be a quiet environment. Numerous restaurants and shops just a stroll away to enjoy and explore. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished. The staff were very helpful and welcoming always, we stayed five nights and wish we had a longer stay, it is a great location to base yourself while sampling the delights of Tuscany. The breakfast were generous and delicious. Cortona was the location for the 'Under the Tuscan Sun' movie, it is beautiful. We highly recommend this hotel.
