This hotel is full of character located in the historic district of Arequipa. Rooms on the upper floor have good views of the mountains and there is a beautiful internal courtyard that is nicely landscaped Rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. As befits a 3 star hotel there is no full time restaurant or bar on site - but there are plenty of places to eat and drink within a block of the hotel.
You couldn't find a better location in Arequipa than the San Agustin site. It's right in the heart of the old city, two blocks from the main square and just across the cobble stone road from the Santa Catalina Monastery. The front entrance, court yard, main hallway and restaurant offer the same historic architecture found throughout the traditional areas of Arequipa. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and hard working. One of the reasons they had to work so hard was the limited number of staff on duty at any one time! One night there were 54 of us for dinner, yet they seemed to have no more than 5 or 6 staff working, including kitchen, service, and front desk staff. Restaurant service staff, however, were remarkable and basically ran themselves ragged responding to our needs. Food was fine, although portions were small. Rooms were also small but clean and comfortable. Showers were always an adventure as the temperature fluctuated throughout. Despite some of the drawbacks we would certainly return to this "boutique type" hotel for our next trip to Arequipa.
We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. The location is great very central opposite the cloister. But the first night we only had cold water in the shower. We informed the Reception and they wanted us to go and shower in another room. We said no as we didn't want to wander around in our pajamas in the corridors. Best day we got a new room with hot water. After that we left for 1 night to the colca canyon and when we came back we got the same room as we left but this time the water was lukewarm. That's why I only give them 2 points.
Great location, lovely staff and quiet rooms. Just a short walk away from the centre of Arequipa, this hotel is right next to the Santa Catalina Monastery but still lovely and quiet. Rooms are clean, WIFI connection is good and staff were all very friendly. Fantastic base for those staying in Arequipa.
This hotel has a wonderful location opposite the Santa Catalina covent, 3 minutes from the main square with a great selection of restaurants around the corner. The public areas of the hotel are beautiful and full of character but venture upstairs and it becomes somewhat dilapidated - dirty carpets, ugly corridors, strip lighting.... The bedroom was adequate but there was only one bedside light in a double room and there was only lukewarm water in the mornings. Breakfast was adequate but nothing more. This hotel could be glorious with a few finishing touches in terms of decor, lighting and plumbing. I do hope the hotel chain invests a little as the staff were friendly and helpful and deserve a better environment to display their skills.
The hotel is basic but clean, not particularly pretty, except for the breakfast room, which is in the patio. The best thing is its location, as you will need around 20 seconds to get to the Monastery of Santa Catalina, which is across the street and a must-see.
Hotel is near all the attractions , must see , in Arequipa , at a walking distance . The Santa Catalina monastery is in front of the hotel . The wi-fi is slow , very slow in the evening . Room is clean , good service
This was a great hotel located in the heart of the old town. Beautiful monastic feel with lovely gardens! The breakfast setting alone was just out of this world. You got to admire the "sillar" stone work around the building. Great wholesome breakfast. Situated opposite the Santa Catalina monastery, this gem was well placed for easy access to this must see place. Not far from the plaza de armas and restaurants, you are spoiled for choice for somewhere to eat! Service was generally good although they could do more to promote the lounge bar and dinner setting. One main criticism was the cost of their laundry service! Ridiculously expensive. Advice: Find a cheaper laundry outside the hotel. Otherwise great place to be.
Located just outside the entrance to Santa Catalina monastary. Very nice and cozy entrance with a smal courtyard. The building itself has been a great residential housing for a rich family. The breakfast room looks like inside a church or a monastery. Ask for room on the ground floor facing the garden. The rooms we had was big, but the bathroom was very cold and the shower wasn't working properly ( not enough water?)
The hotel is well situated, right in the middle of the old town. When you enter, there is a nice interior courtyard and the reception is just beyond it. Our room was cosy and clean. We had a small balcony overlooking the Misti volcano, which was a nice bonus. The staff was nice, although we were only there for one night and didn't interact with them much. Overall, we would recommend this hotel.
