Our bathroom had a modern shower design with no door. The shower spray hit the electric light switch which is a tragedy waiting to happen. The water also sprayed onto the wooden door frame which already has dry rot from this spray even though the room is newly remodeled. Dark mold on the shower walls where they meet the floor. Large signs say "Do NOT drink the water." The window blinds have 1" gap between them for easy peeping Tom viewing. Outlet under TV has on-off switch that interferes with any cord you plug in. 9 TV channels. No spa, no workout facilities. The area around hotel is virtually unwalkable. Much of hotel is beautiful but these flaws outweigh the virtues. The hotel is several years away from being a place to visit.

Aggie Grey's is quite an institution and was recently refurbished. It is probably the best hotel of Apia with nice rooms, amazing decoration in the lobby, restaurant and outdoor areas. The service is good - but don't expect the same level as in a big western city. The staff is incredibly nice, chatty and helpful - like everywhere in Samoa, and it makes a bit difference as you feel genuinely welcome. The breakfast buffet is excellent, large choice of muffins, cooked or continental breakfast. Unfortunately there are no beaches around but there are two nice swimming pools and the marine reserve is not far if you want to try snorkeling. Also it is a convenient location, near a few bars and restaurants and a short taxi ride from the center of Apia if you don't feel like walking. It is perfectly safe to walk on Beach Road and there are very few dogs around even at night time - a big improvement compared to back in the days. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to stay in Apia for a few days, or use Apia as your base to explore Upolu.

Nice place, good condition. Easy walking to most. Places in town. TV worked when it felt like it and overhead light bulbs put on a flashing show.
