Had a very good time at Nathan's lodge, I was traveling to the Bahamas for the first time to do some bone fishing. The guys at Nathan's lodge certainly did amazing job of making this trip fabulous, excellent service and they certainly went beyond their service catalog when helping us re-plan our trip back home. Thanks alot for your hospitality!
Popcake - Bahamian dogs I met, as soon as I entered Nathan's Lodge, 2 dogs One is big and One is small looks like a wolf, tabby color, who greeting us with an excitement. it was unexpected. I was so happy to meet them. They really love humans. its not about the foods. They are vert playful. Mr. Freeman and Ms. Shiva (guess that she is the chef) who are in charge of the lodge, and taking care of Popcake dog and cats as well. its inevitable to see Popcake dogs and cats in any other lodges. They live and stay there. But I felt that those 2 are exceptionally well communicated with humans at Nathan's Lodge. Unless you do not like animals, you would difinately enjoy Popcake dog's and cats's company. you would meet other Popcake dog poppies as well. I really did enjoy being there at Nathan's Lodge. we went there for fly-fishing, Mr. Freeman arranged with a fishing guide who was Chip. and he also arranged for the rent a car with Glo-Rent a car with Michelle. Dinner at Nathan's Lodge is very good, Ms. Shiva the chef takes a request from the guest for dinner. as much as she can, she would respond our request for dinner. Nathan's Lodge, all staff are very friendly and they take care of anything that we ask them. we had 2 rooms and the kitchen very close to the beach, the beach is very astonishing beautiful and peaceful . its magnificent view when you step into the beach from Nathan's lodge. just right front of the Lodge. Only one thing problem was that some reason No internet connection in the room. so we had to go to their bar/restaurant to connect internet. Over all I loved the place Nathan's Lodge. Thank you very much, Mr. Freeman, Ms. Shiva and Mr. Nathan
I'm a researcher, and my team of four needed to visit S. Andros. A friend recommended Nathan's Lodge. We stayed in two of the standard rooms (not the efficiency rooms). Each room had two large beds. The four of us were very comfortable in two rooms. They arranged for a rental car for us that we kept for the week. Freeman takes care of the place, and was so much fun to be around. He lives on the property, so he is there when you need anything. We had dinners provided, which I highly recommend. There are no restaurants for dinner that you can just walk into without arranging ahead (this is an out-island after all). Sheba's cooking was out of this world. We had steamed conch, baked chicken, BBQ ribs, lobster and our favorites, Bahamian Mac & cheese (amazing) and peas and rice. She is an amazing cook and such a sweet lady! The place was well kept and everything was in working order. We will definitely be coming back. Oh, and there were 4 friendly beach dogs and two cats that we played with every day. We did a snorkeling trip with Jesse (just down the beach). It was excellent. The spots were 10 mins from his boat, which you can see from Nathan's Lodge. Totally reasonable price and very professional. The reefs were gorgeous as were the blue holes. The beach at Nathan's is beautiful. Shallow for a long way out with sugary sand. It goes on for miles. Great nature hikes just north of the airport. Boardwalks take you to several blue holes for swimming. Largest blue hole I have ever seen at the end of one trail.
My husband and I stayed at Nathan's for 8 days and nights. We had a fabulous time from the moment we were picked up at the airport by Mrs. Lloyd until the morning she dropped us back off for our flight out. Freeman and Shiva were the best host and hostess we could have asked for! Shiva had a marvelous dinner for us each night--a wonderful cook. Her Valentine's dinner and our last night celebrations were phenomenal! Freeman was always quick with a laugh and eager to make sure our vacation was as memorable as it could possibly be. We rode bikes down to Deep Creek--ate lunch at Nate's (they caught the snapper when we were sitting right there!) We had the best time with the other guests at Nathan's - in particular two fun-loving girls from Germany. We spent several days together having fun on the island. Snorkeling with Jesse was awesome--diving into The Garden and Donut Hole was a great day. The reef and the water are spectacular. We went on the nature walk with Barbara (she picks you up right at the Lodge.) We learned about natural herbs and medicinal qualities attributed to local trees and foliage. Hiked around in the woods, climbed in a cave, and swam in a beautiful, clear in-land blue hole. We also went bone-fishing--Freeman helped set this up for us. The beach was only "crowded" when the 4 of us were sitting on it! Beautiful white sand beach that went on forever. Nathan came and visited towards the end of our trip. When he wasn't there he would call over from Nassau to check on our stays. Every person we saw was so friendly and happy. What a wonderful trip!
We stayed at this lovely place for 6 nights. It's close to a long marvellous beach with white sand and clear blue water. Due to the weather conditions we had seagrass too but didn't care. The lodge is a charming place. Clean, big enough rooms with aircon and fan. Nice bathroom, satellite TV (you'll share the channel with the dining room:-)) and wifi. The staff is awesome. Freeman will help you with every need you have, Shiva cooks the best dinner @ the whole island. Nathan will take care of you whether he stays @ at the island or is somewhere else. He called several times to make sure that we are satisfied with everything. There are some nice friendly dogs and cats around (Be careful with clothes on the veranda. They like to play.) They will keep you company. Andros is maybe one of the biggest islands in the Bahamas, but it is also laid back. Don't expect high life and you will enjoy yourselves most. Go fishing, hiking or diving. You will find someone who can guide you. And when you are back home, you wish you could be back again.
We visited Nathan's lodge August 2017. We had such a wonderful time over there! If you want to relax, snorkel, dive, enjoy nature, Andros is the place. The lodge is located near the beach. You just walk 20 metres and you're there. When we were there, there was nobody on the beach so we had it all to ourselves. The place is cosy and the people working there are so friendly and helpful. Freeman, the manager, will help you out with everything. If you like to go snorkling, birdwatching, diving, touring, just ask Freeman and he'll set something up for you. We had dinner at the lodge's restaurant and had a delicious local dinner every night. I am a vegetarian and they even brought me veggie burgers from Nassau! It was all so very relaxing and it felt like home. The surroundings are beautiful and you should really go snorkling (ask for tori) or diving. The reef is superb! We saw so many fish and also a stingray and a shark. It was all absolutely great!
The lodge was okay.I love the wooden look and down home feel. The bar on property was well stocked. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. However, at one point there was no electricity and water. The water when it came back on smelled terrible. I guess this accommodation served its purpose.
This is where you want to go if you need to unplug from the world. The main attraction has to be the miles of endless beach that are just a stone's throw away from the accommodations. It honestly makes the more tourist trap type beaches you find on New Providence seem mediocre in comparison. Save for the occasional friendly local you come across, it can sometimes seem like you are on a deserted island, in the best possible way. Freeman was a gracious and welcoming host and we could not have asked for more. If you want something to do, just ask him and he can get you there, or get in touch with people who can, for stuff like bone fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, general sightseeing etc. Otherwise you can just laze your day away on the beachfront. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommended.
My friends and I had the opportunity to stay at Nathan's lodge in late June for 2 days, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here! It was actually my favourite part of our trip to the Bahamas as the beach was beautiful and empty for miles, with shallow depths and the warmest waters I have ever experienced! (This is compared to my past trips to Maui/Oahu, the Mayan Riviera, and Varadero during the months of May - July). You could wade or dip your feet in the water quite far into the distance before the water reaches head-height. The enjoyment of the deserted picture-perfect beach is well worth the trip to Kemp's Bay and Nathan's Lodge in my opinion, as the beaches in Nassau were busier and more packed. Freeman (the caretaker) took care of all of our food and drinking needs (water and alcoholic drinks) with efficiency, and our room (Room #2 I believe) was spacious and clean, with a new AC unit. The shower's water pressure in our room was less than desired though, but this was also the case with the other places we subsequently stayed at in Nassau, so it might be a general issue in the Bahamas in local-type of accommodations. You will need to bring your own toiletries as only bar soap was provided. Bath and beach towels were provided to us, and lounge chairs were available at the gazebo at the end of the path that leads to the beach. Free wifi was available at the main dining building (just steps away from our rooms). One important note on the property is that there are stray cats and dogs (as well as kittens and puppies) that live around the lodge. If you are an animal lover, this is great as they were friendly (or timid). The dogs might even join you at the beach if they like you! However, if you dislike animals, then keep this in mind as they will be loitering around the grounds, though they will likely stay away if you ask them to "scram". Another note for Kemp's Bay is that there are not very many places that you can visit as a tourist for food or supplies, so you are quite reliant on the lodge or the locals to help you with what you need. We also had the opportunity to be driven to visit the two blue/sink holes, which was an amazing experience! I would definitely come back again, and stay longer, as this is the perfect location to get away from everything.
My adult son and myself stayed 3 nights at Nathan's and had a great time. Clean comfortable room and super service. Freeman and Sheeva are just wonderful hosts. They cooked us delicious meals every day and helped us a lot.
