We visited Nathan's lodge August 2017. We had such a wonderful time over there! If you want to relax, snorkel, dive, enjoy nature, Andros is the place. The lodge is located near the beach. You just walk 20 metres and you're there. When we were there, there was nobody on the beach so we had it all to ourselves. The place is cosy and the people working there are so friendly and helpful. Freeman, the manager, will help you out with everything. If you like to go snorkling, birdwatching, diving, touring, just ask Freeman and he'll set something up for you. We had dinner at the lodge's restaurant and had a delicious local dinner every night. I am a vegetarian and they even brought me veggie burgers from Nassau! It was all so very relaxing and it felt like home. The surroundings are beautiful and you should really go snorkling (ask for tori) or diving. The reef is superb! We saw so many fish and also a stingray and a shark. It was all absolutely great!

The lodge was okay.I love the wooden look and down home feel. The bar on property was well stocked. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. However, at one point there was no electricity and water. The water when it came back on smelled terrible. I guess this accommodation served its purpose.

This is where you want to go if you need to unplug from the world. The main attraction has to be the miles of endless beach that are just a stone's throw away from the accommodations. It honestly makes the more tourist trap type beaches you find on New Providence seem mediocre in comparison. Save for the occasional friendly local you come across, it can sometimes seem like you are on a deserted island, in the best possible way. Freeman was a gracious and welcoming host and we could not have asked for more. If you want something to do, just ask him and he can get you there, or get in touch with people who can, for stuff like bone fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, general sightseeing etc. Otherwise you can just laze your day away on the beachfront. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommended.

My friends and I had the opportunity to stay at Nathan's lodge in late June for 2 days, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here! It was actually my favourite part of our trip to the Bahamas as the beach was beautiful and empty for miles, with shallow depths and the warmest waters I have ever experienced! (This is compared to my past trips to Maui/Oahu, the Mayan Riviera, and Varadero during the months of May - July). You could wade or dip your feet in the water quite far into the distance before the water reaches head-height. The enjoyment of the deserted picture-perfect beach is well worth the trip to Kemp's Bay and Nathan's Lodge in my opinion, as the beaches in Nassau were busier and more packed. Freeman (the caretaker) took care of all of our food and drinking needs (water and alcoholic drinks) with efficiency, and our room (Room #2 I believe) was spacious and clean, with a new AC unit. The shower's water pressure in our room was less than desired though, but this was also the case with the other places we subsequently stayed at in Nassau, so it might be a general issue in the Bahamas in local-type of accommodations. You will need to bring your own toiletries as only bar soap was provided. Bath and beach towels were provided to us, and lounge chairs were available at the gazebo at the end of the path that leads to the beach. Free wifi was available at the main dining building (just steps away from our rooms). One important note on the property is that there are stray cats and dogs (as well as kittens and puppies) that live around the lodge. If you are an animal lover, this is great as they were friendly (or timid). The dogs might even join you at the beach if they like you! However, if you dislike animals, then keep this in mind as they will be loitering around the grounds, though they will likely stay away if you ask them to "scram". Another note for Kemp's Bay is that there are not very many places that you can visit as a tourist for food or supplies, so you are quite reliant on the lodge or the locals to help you with what you need. We also had the opportunity to be driven to visit the two blue/sink holes, which was an amazing experience! I would definitely come back again, and stay longer, as this is the perfect location to get away from everything.

My adult son and myself stayed 3 nights at Nathan's and had a great time. Clean comfortable room and super service. Freeman and Sheeva are just wonderful hosts. They cooked us delicious meals every day and helped us a lot.

First things, first - health and safety. You cannot drink the water and safe drinking water is not provided by the lodge. You must either purchase water locally (not cheap) or boil all water for consumption. More importantly, the rear windows of our apartment were boarded up and there was no egress from the bedroom in case of fire in the main living area. This was not discovered until the end of our stay, but it was reported to the owner and no action was taken. He indicated that he had other priorities. Overall, the property and facilities are in a state of disrepair. The apartment we were assigned failed to meet minimum cleanliness standards. Upon arrival, the apartment was filthy. Bedding and linens were typically threadbare. Blankets, pillows and cushions do not appear to be cleaned on a regular basis. Area rugs and bath rugs were worn and not clean. There were new towels with price tags still attached, so they had not been laundered prior to placement in the unit. The one bedroom apartment was listed as having satellite TV and internet. The TV was connected to the satellite box in another apartment but we did not have the ability to select channels for viewing. If the residents in the other apartment have the box on, you are watching what they are watching or you are out of luck. So much for March Madness. There is no access to the internet in the apartment. Guests must go the main lodge where access is limited due to bandwidth usage by employees streaming games, radio, etc. The only time we were able to utilize the internet effectively was either early in the morning or late at night when others were not. Inside the unit, the beds and sofabeds were of poor quality and terribly uncomfortable. The kitchen lacked even basic cooking and eating utensils, not even a sharp knife. Fortunately, we had a leatherman tool we brought from home. (Our neighbors borrowed a knife from another lodge.) The two pans and three pots in the unit appeared to have done hard time on a campfire, layers of soot and whatever on the outside, filthy on the inside with crusty remnants of other meals that we were unable to remove. No bakeware so plastic handles go in the oven! Dishes were chipped and cracked - the bowls were discarded margarine containers. The next door unit had decent (new) cookware but little else. Both the kitchen and bathroom sink drains leaked, the bathroom sink being "fixed" by a bucket underneath, while the kitchen had been allowed to rot the cabinet floor beneath. The screen of the screen door had holes, there was no latch or handle on the door and consequently, bugs were not kept out. There is no patio attached to the apartment although one is listed as an amenity and there is a picture of a patio leading one to believe there is a patio at the unit. Other structural issues included exposed wires and outlets missing faceplates. The grounds of the lodge are littered with junk cars, stray dogs, and the bi-product of stray dogs, canine feces. The feces were also on the "private beach" (technically, just access to the public shoreline). There was an abundance of flotsam on the beach which is not cleaned or raked. There were no beach chairs present when we arrived. Guests were required to scrounge chairs from around the property for beach seating. We did not eat in the lodge so I cannot comment on the quality or price of the cuisine. We did speak with the owner about the aforementioned issues. His name was "Nathan", but he was the not the individual named as the owner on the property listing. That person was "Denise". It is unclear who provided the information and pictures for the listing but it was grossly inaccurate. Our unit was not pictured in the listing and it was referred to as a studio. The listing seems to be only for renting rooms in the main lodge, yet the title was "House on Private Beach". The amenities listed and what we paid for did not reflect what we ended up having at the apartment. He seemed surprised and somewhat confused by the content of his property listing and the rate we paid - $203 per night, including tax. As we discussed with the owner, not all of the issues mentioned would be a show stopper at a different price point, but at $203 per night the deficiencies were critical. Definitely not good value. On a positive note, the two air conditioners and two ceiling fans worked and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. (Take care not to get burned.)

Nathan's lodge is the place to go to, without a doubt, if you truly want to get away in the Bahamas. If you want the tourist trap, all-inclusive, hokey, and over-the-top themed Caribbean getaway, then please move on. However if you are interested in leaving civilization, having your phone off with no worries, get lost in local culture in an extremely safe community, this is your place. The beach is world class, and the only other people on it will be those who may also just happen to be staying at the lodge with you (multiple rooms/apts). You are centrally located to go bonefish, get necessities, or just drive and eat the local food establishments and bars. A 10 minute walk down the beach is a Master Certified Vermont native eager to take you scuba diving or snorkeling in the blue-green carribean waters; who can also set you up with a local that will give you a terrific, world-class, blue hole tour giving information not just on the holes, but also on all the local fauna as you take the short and easy trail. Bring hard soled shoes and your bathing suit! At Nathan's, you can get a kitchen if you prefer to save a few dollars and make your own food, and have a fridge for all your food and beverage needs to keep cool to bring to the beach. However, it's strongly recommended having a couple meals in the lodge bar and restaurant where you will be surprised to be treated to local meals of fish, lobster, and local sides cooked to perfection in a small and intimate room. Or, if you prefer, sit on a small deck just outside. The property is loaded with coconut trees, and if you want a few for yourself, just speak with the very helpful property manager Freeman who will oblige with a smile. This is the perfect getaway location if you truly want to "get away from it all", unwind, reboot, and get a tan without any hassles, worries, or obligations. Everything is at your own speed where high and low tide rule the pace of life, not the hour or minutes.

We were two families traveling Christmas week, and had 5 (of the 8 or so) rooms and the place to ourselves for the first several days, which was great! (Another family arrived midweek, which was also fun.) Nathan's is a homey, cozy, casual place - don't expect elegance or fancy amenities. Bikes, snorkels and kayaks -- that's it! But honestly, who needs more? The beach is right there, and beautiful. (There is a dive shop/resort about a 10 minute walk down the beach. They will take snorkelers and fishermen too.) We had breakfast, lunch and dinner on site, except for one dinner at another resort - which required taxi and ferry rides - and every day, they'd ask our input on what we would like to eat: BBQ? Chicken? Fish? (Mmmm, conch!) Steak? It was all hearty and good. And the coconut water with sweet milk - wow! The staff is absolutely wonderful - lovely, helpful, friendly people. The rooms are clean and comfortable with excellent AC. My one suggestion is: please get better wine! (Next time, if possible, I will ship from home in advance.) Thank you, Nathan and everyone for a great vacation!

Hi Mr. Andros! Thank You! for the wonderful stay at Nathan's Lodge! I've recommended it to my friends should they be looking for a very comfortable, friendly & relaxing accommodation in South Andros. Sheva prepared the best meals and Freeman was available for any needs I had plus bicycle rentals/snorlek gear. You and Sheva & Freeman basically were like a family away from home. Nathan's Lodge is such quaint, comfortable & inexpensive way to get away in paradise. Steps from a private beach but all my needs including taxi with Ms. Lloyd to and from the airport was a wonderful experience. No complaints! John M.

I go to Nathan's several times every year. I just got back yesterday and am getting my flights tomorrow to go back in November. I like to go sit in the water at night under the moon. The food is really good
