Had all we needed and expected. (Could have been more space for luggage in the room).. Food was superb, a rich buffet to choose from. We were also provided with a sandwich and salad buffet, to make a picniic lunch.
Stayed for a week of skiing. The hotel is warm and welcoming and the rooms clean if not a little tired! We had a room on the 5th floor at the back so a really dark room - no sun at all -but spacious. Our sons were in a room at the front which whilst smaller had a great view up the mountain and was lovely to sit on the balcony in the evening watching the piste bashers while the sun went down! We had half board and the food was excellent - full credit to the grill chef who kept up orders for at least four people at a time - she was amazing. There was a wide choice each day and always hot and plentiful. There's ski lockers which are free - you pay a €10 deposit for the lock. This is down in the car park area of the hotel. The parking at the hotel is VERY expensive however directly opposite the hotel there is a public car park which charges €3 from 8am to 8pm. This is patrolled daily so you have to either get there at 8am or you can feed the machine in the evening ready for the next day! Would definitely stay here again due to the close proximity of the lifts, the comfortable clean rooms and good food.
Our first time staying at this hotel, and a good experience. Our studio room was on the 3rd floor, was a good size with very comfortable beds, clean and well presented. There is no kettle but it has a microwave so a little ingenuity produced hot drinks in the room. The bathroom has a standard bath with a partial screen for the associated shower, the shower screen is a little inefficient so the tiled floor does get wet but this isn't a great problem. The hair dryer in the bath room is not the most effective so my wife was glad that she had packed her own. The buffet style meals were of a generally good standard with a reasonable rather than vast choice. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There is a comfortable bar/lounge with a children's ball play area adjacent to it. There is a fitness room and spa which we didn't sample. WiFi was fairly standard for a hotel, good for email, news and weather, not great for bigger downloads. The ski lockers are large but not heated. A padlock is required but one can be obtained from the hotel. There are closer hotels to the gondola but as the Himalayas is central in the village it is within an easy 5 minute walk to the gondola so we didn't feel the need to hire a locker at the gondola station. The central location gives it several easy apre ski options on the doorstep. It can be a bit noisy in the street at the front of the hotel late at night but we didn't find it intrusive from the 3rd floor. Overall this hotel was of a good standard, in a good position and at a good price. Would we go there again? A definite yes.
Third time at this hotel, the rooms are spacious and warm, Rooms in lower floors tend to be noisy due to the bars in the gallery below the hotel, if you stay in the 4th or 5th floor its good enough for a good night sleep. The bed was ok as well as the pillow, the sofa was in urgent need of replacement, the walls should be repainted. Always stayed with half boarding, its nice not to worry where to have dinner, The food is good with several choices (meat, fish, grill, pastas, salads, etc...). The best time to have a quiet dinner is after 9PM, before the restaurant is packed and noisy. The receptionists are very helpful and attentive, the waiters in the restaurant are a bit harsh but with the amount of people they serve every night its admissible :) Lousy WIFI but its the same everywhere, The hotel has private parking with a extra fee 18€/day, a bit expensive but its better than having to dig your car from under the snow. Pets allowed 10€/day, Ski locker in the basement. 100 meter walk from Soldeu gondola, 20 metrer walk to the bus stop to Pas de la casa or to Andorra la Vella.
A group of 4 families stayed here 2 weeks ago, and we are already looking at booking for next year. I have to say we were all pleasantly surprised, we stayed in the apartment rooms on 3rd floor which were really spacious, at the back of the hotel which was quieter. It was nice to have a separate room for the grown ups with your own wardrobes too. Kids were in the lounge, which had small kitchen and TV with some English channels, but wasn't used much to be honest. It got a bit warm in the night but easily fixed by turning the thermostat down! We took advantage of the laundry service which was very quick and cheap, 1 full bag 12euros. We always returned to a cleaned room where they even tidied up some of the kids stuff, but it was immaculate. Bathroom was a little dated and shower needs upgrading as it got everywhere. Kids loved the ball pit room, and pool table and there was plenty to keep them occupied. Staff were very friendly and helpful, excellent and patient with our group! The food was ok, plenty of selection and great grill choices in the evening, lots of healthy options too.The grill chef was amazing, really quick turn around, super efficient, but was really missed on our last day... I understand she needed a day off but the person you replaced her with didn't quite get it..we waited 30 min for 2 fried eggs. The resort itself was brilliant, great ski instructors and plenty of skiing for all levels. Will probably rent a locker at the Gondola next year, especially when trying carry kids skis etc. WiFi does need looking at, having to log on every time is a pain, but it was only needed by the adults as kids were so occupied we were electronics free for the whole week. it was also a welcome break not constantly checking work emails.. Good tip, you can use the Grandivilaria WiFi hotspots by using the code on your lift pass.
Defintly not a 4 star hotel. Room poorly maintained. Lite bulbs missing and shower unconmfertable spreading water all around. No amnities just the bare minimum. Phone unable to receive outsude calls. Wifi slow and intermittent. And food is terrible, basic cantine style and presented in an unsanitary fashion: salads, cheese and cold cut are served without proper refrigeration and hot dishes are warm. The sauna water are tapud and one pool is not working. Bars below hotel are very noisy until 0300am.
In my view top hotel for ski holiday. Located nearby the ski lift (5 mins walk). Great food, breakfast and dinner in buffet form both Continental and English style and some Spanish ( Catalunyan) specialties. Cosy not to big with friendly employees. Wifi is indeed not top but hey it s holidays after all...
Handy location near the gondola lift, took about 4 mins to get there with our ski gear on. We stayed in a 3 bed suite so got a small kitchen area which was very handy (tip-take own kettle tea bags etc). The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and once we turned the thermostat right down, overnight temperature was not too hot in the room. Food from the self serve buffet was very good , loads of choice: soup starter, salad course, hot choices with freshly prepared meat or fish from the grill. The young lady on the grill section worked like a Trojan all week, she was there in the mornings too making fresh pancakes, omelettes, fried eggs sausages- seemed like she was glued to the grill! The Himalyan decor around the hotel was tasteful, pictures of Mallory and Sherpas etc There is always a downside and that was the non-existent Wifi in the room; it was just about usable in the reception area. Reason given was that hotel was full, sorry but Wifi should be equally good whatever the occupancy...
The hotel is extremely close to pubs and the main gondola. Its lobby is very inviting and large. We had a porch with a view, which was nice. However, in times of rush (festivals\holidays), you can feel the hotel being overcrowded, wi-fi signal is slim to non existent. The spa's jacuzzi has only warm water and its jetting system is broken. There are no locks for the ski gear's locker room. No toilet brush in room which made our experience very awkward. We got filthy towels a couple of times - w\ stains and someone else's hair. We got a lot of angry faces asking for hot water in the bar (as they couldn't offer a kettle). The minibar was not re-stacked when we got into the room. I had to ask 4 times before someone wrote down that we won't be charged of it. That being said, It's better than going to Pas.
Second time in Soldeu to ski and wanted to stay somewhere better than our last place so we opted for the Himalaia. We stayed half board which was a great help not having to worry about meals (was self catering last time). The food was decent enough with three grill options daily. Like any place you stay at where it is buffet food you eventually get a bit bored but the quality was more than good enough with wide selections. The rooms were very spacious and pretty modern but most importantly the mattresses were excellent (memory foam) and after a hard day skiing they were very appreciated. Great view from our balcony also. The jacuzzi's as there are two can be busy if you leave it late but the steam room and sauna were always available. a very nice atmosphere all round and the bar was very reasonable costing 2.5 euro for a pint of San Miguel and not much more for a glass of wine. Location is fantastic right in the heart of Soldeu with Fat Alberts literally behind the hotel and the Harp below, perfect. The ski lift was a two minute walk just up the road so again great. I personally still hired a locker at the Gondola as carrying skis when wrapped up and boots on is not for me. There was a small mix up with the rooms when checking in but this was resolved and possibly more down to the booking agent than the hotel. all in all would definitely recommend the Himalaia and hope to be back there next year.
