Hotel Himalaia Soldeu4.0 out of 5.0

Stayed here for a long weekend skiing in Feb 2018 with a group of 10. The hotel was very good, the room itself was reasonably spacious, in good condition and clean. Morning and evening buffets had plenty of choice and food was nice, good lounge are in bar which worked well for a bigger group. It's a 2 minute walk from slopes which is obviously a major plus point, and near to other bars and restaurants. I didn't use the hot tubs or fitness suit but both looked good.
Just returned from a 4 night Ski break at the Himalaia. We had a very pleasant stay. The most notable thing about the hotel to me was that everybody we dealt with from the chambermaid through waiters/bar staff to reception all seemed to genuinely enjoying serving you, yes happy to be of service which makes a stay so pleasant. Thank you all. We were in the one of the garret rooms at the back of the hotel and our room was warm spacious and quiet. The bed was enormous and comfortable. The room was not particularly well lit but not an issue. Food at all meals was good quality and there were never any shortages. Very attentive pleasant grill order chef cooking fresh at all meals. My one compaint would be that the lounge area was sometimes not warm enough to be comfortable. Perhaps they should invest in a draught free revolving entrance door from the street to reception. We have stayed at other mid range hotels in Soldeu previously and would return to the Himalaia without question.
4th floor room, large, but very dark with only one small window and inadequate lighting. Plenty of storage, but needed torch to see in wardrobes. Beds had hollow in middle, mattresses need to be replaced. Very noisy, both in and from outside hotel, disrupting sleep. Food average, plenty of it. Soup was appalling, straight from a packet. Reasonable salad bar, hot items were often only just warm due to sitting out in buffet. Dining room busy, noisy and not relaxing. Staff all friendly and helpful. Quick walk to gondola.
Stayed as a party of 7 comprising of 2 twins and a triple room, all located on the second floor but facing the pistes. Had an great week here, hotel staff were very attentive and friendly. Lots of choice for breakfast and evening meal, from cold meats, to salads, to hot foods and great "live bar" where the chef cooks for you and puddings galore. Having spend a number of weeks in hotels in chalets in France it was a welcome surprise to see lots of fresh fruit and vegetables available for each meal - other resorts this can be just limited to an apple and an orange! Rooms were spacious and clean, yes, if you look closely some tidying up of paint work, decorating of rooms would not go a miss, but this was no issue. There is a large bar area to relax in and the bar was reasonably priced (a pint of San Miguel for 2.75 euros?!). The hotel is only a short walk from the Gondola, whilst I do know there are ski lockers in the hotel, my group chose to use the ones in the Gondola station just for the convenience. The spa facilities were used and these were of a decent standard. Having stayed in a couple of hotels in Soldeu this is by far the best I have been too and I will definitely consider going again. Thank you for a good week!
We were all accommodated on floor 5/6. The rooms were all lovely. Plenty of food at meal times. Waitress/waiters were all very friendly and attentive. Bar was understaffed and we frequently had to wait for a long time to be served. The bar seemed to run out of products on a regular basis. Centrally located for gondola station and resort bars and restaurants. Fat Alberts is directly behind the hotel and can be noisy most of the night. I've never slept in a quiet ski resort in 18 years though! We checked out other hotels in the area, they appeared to have been renovated and were straight out of Ikea. Areas of the Himalaia do need to be updated but overall a good skiing hotel.
We stayed as a group of 10 in Jan 2018. The hotel was a good standard, the rooms were clean, the food was good as was the service. There was good wifi throughout the hotel. The boot room was underneath the hotel and a 2 minute walk to the gondola. Will come back again.
The positives of this hotel are it’s location, very central to the town and some of the rooms / floors have been recently-ish renovated. The hotel caters well for an active holiday with a good choice of breakfast and a decent buffet dinner. The public areas of the hotel and bar are a little tired but it is close to use the other bars and restaurants in the village. The hotel seems to have a great deal of variety in the rooms floor to floor due to the room in roof accommodation of upper floors, and the partial renovations of different floors (look for the different flooring of each corridor when using the stairs). Some floors e.g 4 are not great and in need of some renovation, whilst other floors have been renovated and are OK. The hotel allows pets which you can tell with scratches and odd smells in rooms. The bar below was noisy even from the upper floors but it is a central hotel in a fairly lively ski resort so you can’t expect tranquil silence.
the good - location, easy to get to & from the slopes , food - plenty of options, super friendly staff in the dining area & great lady on the grill. the not so good - rooms - we booked a 1 bedroom apartment - the brochure detailed it as - a bedroom with 2 single beds and a lounge with a double sofa bed. The first room we were give was a triple room - 3 single beds so went to reception and told them we had booked an apartment - then given room 416 - awful room - it had the bedroom, then as the room was at the top it had the eaves going through it - it was small, cramped and dark, the eaves meant you had to duck down across the remaining space & the lounge only contained a single sofa bed. Went to reception again and brought the rep in - they didn't have any more rooms that night but could move us the following day. Next morning waited for rep & reception - hotel said they don't have any double sofa beds ( despite that being the brochure description). Eventually shown another room before it had been cleaned - the previous occupants had made it up as a double in the lounge & there was at least room to move in it so we accepted it. The bedroom didn't have any doors s not exactly a separate room - when the cleaner came to show us how to do the sofa bed it was just a pull out single - we managed to use it & the sofa as a bed to create the 2 separate areas but not as booked. The bathroom in this room also had cracked tiles at the end of the bath and on the floor but the worst bit about the bathroom was it was near impossible to have a shower without soaking the whole room - the hanger for the shower was in the middle of the bath but the screen did not come anywhere near that far to stop the water. The spa area is a nice addition but again needs some sorting - there is a lot of black mould around the hot tubs. in the sauna a number of the supports for the seats were broken so they weren't really safe. The changing room in the spa area was really cold and not very clean. The kitchen area in the apartment rooms sounds like a nice idea but in reality isn't really effective - there is a sink and a microwave - not even a kettle so unless you take one or want to boil water in the microwave! Nice location but a long way from 4 star & not one to return to for me.
I stayed here for a weekend with three friends of mine solely so that we were central for snowboarding each day. Location was great ! The staff were accommodating and the jacuzzi was a nice extra . We had requested twice , that we have 4 twin beds in our room. Unfortunately we were given one double along with a sleeper couch which was made into two single beds ( not great ) . For a 4 star I expected more in the room. At least a coffee and tea setup with kettle or a better stocked mini bar ? The breakfast was alright , the best part was the friendly lady who worked behind the egg station . Overall - it served its purpose but for me , slightly underwhelming compared to other 4 stars I’ve stayed in .
Had all we needed and expected. (Could have been more space for luggage in the room).. Food was superb, a rich buffet to choose from. We were also provided with a sandwich and salad buffet, to make a picniic lunch.
