Lovely hotel clean well appointed and a good location. Staff were very helpful and as usual in Norway spoke perfect English. Nothing was to much trouble I would recommend this any time. Breakfast was plentiful and a wide range of traditional and other foods. Packed lunch diy was mot an issue
Thon Alta is built in the town on top of the city Mall. Room is ok and amenities is ok. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is good. Even thought there are some unlogical flow of queues in the buffet areas. Restaurant was closed when we arrived but they had peppes pizza next door. Bathroom was ok. Tv was ok with limited selection of canals.
Lovely hotel had everything we needed after a dog sledging weekend. Especially a warm cosy room with a hot shower! We had great views, beds very comfy. Right in the centre of Alta, a mall next door and not fair from the airport. 5/10 mins.
We travelled to Alta by car. Upon arriving, we tried to call the reception to enquire where as to park our car. After trying for 15 minutes to get in touch with someone, we gave up and asked locals on the street outside the hotel for directions. The staff welcomed me in a professional way, but sent me to a room that felt just cheap. The floor did give in and the wardrobe swayed and saluted me every time I passed it on the floor. Every time I walked to and from the room, there was a trolley or two in the hallway. It never was cleared up. Breakfast was served by nice staff, but it felt cheap, there was no love in the presentation. It all looked like it was lifted out of the packing and put strait to the trays. The breakfast room was crowded, and there were no free tables at any time. I checked. I booked by phone and no notice was given that the hotel was undergoing massive rebuilding with the reception moved to the hallway a floor up. I paid full price for å room that had lots of noise and a lot of mess outside. All in all a disappointing experience.
We stayed for 1 night here and the room was comfortable. Admittedly we were on different time zones. so were up too wee hours of the morning. Breakfast was great. The view from our room was amazing. The staff service was helpful
I stayed here five nights end was pleased with my room. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom with shower worked well, the breakfast was superb (they even had smoked salmon!) And the straff was helpful. I would gladly stay here again!
This is as standard a business hotel as it gets. My husband and I were traveling from Tromsø to the Nordkapp as part of an anniversary trip, and stayed here one night at the end of September. When we made a reservation, we were only able to get twin beds, which was kind of a bummer. So a pleasant surprise when we checked in was that they had a normal double room for us. After an exhausting drive, we checked in, and I got the first shower. The main bad surprise, and reason for my dissatisfaction with the service, is that when I jumped into the shower and pumped the soap dispenser, it was empty after only two pumps. I lifted the cover to make sure it wasn't just a clogged dispenser. Nope, it was empty. I mean, I was traveling with my husband, so I was able to yell out to him, and he handed me the teeny bar of hand soap so I could finish showering. But, if this is mainly a business hotel — and it is — how does a solo traveler deal with something like that when they're already naked, wet, and unwashed? It's astonishing to me that housekeeping doesn't check that dispenser every single time they service a room. Another negative was that the clothes bar in the closet was a full foot higher than my husband's head, and he is 6' tall! At 5'1" (and with bad shoulders), I was unable to reach to hang up my own coat! What does the short business traveler do there? The closet seems like it was set up for professional basketball players. On the positive side, the bed was comfortable enough, the room was roomy and modern (although the weird little kitchenette unit crowds the hallway quite a bit, and the bathroom door and the room's door get in each other's way), the breakfast was generous and tasty, and the northern lights views in Alta are SPECTACULAR. Just bring your own soap, and a stepladder!
My wife booked a double room for us by phone for one night at the Thon hotel, Alta. When she informed the person she was speaking to that she (my wife) works for the Hammerfest kommune, she was offered a discounted price of 1045 Kr with the assurance that this would be confirmed by email. She never received the email but didn't worry. Sure enough, when we turned up on 30th August, our booking was entered on their system but we were now asked for over 1200 Kr. Despite protestations, the receptionist would not budge and stated that they didn't even have a rate of 1045, discounted or otherwise. The receptionist became quite abrupt. Unfortunately, this is not the first problem we've had with Thon hotels. We ended up walking out and that was that.
Frankly we have been on a 3 week tour and been as far north as we can and the hotel accomodations in the north seem to get worse when you get further north. Even though we were on a "premium escorted tour", premium accomodation is hard to come by up north. Sometimes you do wonder if the promised premium tour is really that at all. This hotel was actually quite decent . We strike gold and got a room with a small kitchenette , though can't remember if we used it at all. No coffee or tea facilities as usual. Room is clean , comfortable, and small of course. Bathroom is small with no extra amenities besides the bath and body wash gel screwed to the wall. Staff are friendly . Breakfast spread us average.
Room was comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was good. Grocery store across the street and lots of places to walk. Some of our group saw the northern lights but we didn't stay up. Breakfast was typical Scandinavian. Good for a night on the way to the north cape.
