Scandic Alta3.5 out of 5.0

The hotel standard is ok for northern Norwegian standard, although some of the older rooms really need an upgrade. The big problem with this hotel is that it isn't soundproof at all, and they tend to have local "musicians" playing terrible country music in the bar until 1AM on week days! Even with a room in the 3rd floor, getting any sleep is totally impossible. This is my second time having this experience in this hotel, and even though Scandic is my preferred hotel chain in Norway, I think I won't ever come back. It totally prevented me from getting any of the much needed sleep before my next work day. NOT recommended for business travelers.
I know we are in a fairly small town and that hotels are few and far between, but at least be honest about the rating! The room is barely large enough to swing a cat! Two single beds, a desk and chair, a small coffee table and a larger chair all crammed into a small space. We have put the coffee table under the desk to enable us to access the window! We checked in this evening. Four people were in front of us and it was hardly surprising - no hurry at all. After the longest wait we have ever experienced upon check-in, we were finally seen to. No apology for the length of wait and certainly no hint of a smile. The most miserable receptionist I've ever come across! She was not very friendly and extremely unhelpful. No map, no information about anything. After going to the room and finding no tea making facilities, I asked at reception but she just shrugged. Yes, I know I don't know the Norwegian for kettle but she was not interested anyway. We can have a drink - we just have to come down to buy them and only coffee is available! I don't think a small kettle and cups in a room is too much to ask - especially not at this price ( it's hardly cheap). My husband asked for the wi-fi voucher as advertised on the information on the front desk and on the keycard wallet but was told that this was not the case and we were to enter our details. The room is in need of updating. Or maybe it has been? It's hard to tell. 3 pillows between 2 of us and a broken reading lamp for starters. The bathroom light flickers constantly and the throws on the end of the bed give electric shocks each time we pick them up. There is limited storage space - well, limited space in general. We have had to stack our suitcases due to lack of space. -another first for us!
I stayed one night with my son. It was a pleasant stay. The staff were welcomming and very nice, which initiated a good hotel experience. The room was generous with enough space for people and luggage. A good size bathroom and comfortable beds. I will use this hotel again 👍
There ain't that many hotels to choose from in Alta, but this sure is a good choice. Newly renovated rooms (Not all of them, but the major I think). Good wifi and the breakfast was ok +. The hotel is located right next to the Northern lights cathedral. All the staff was a bit... Careless?
Location great, easy to find. Good breakfast, the room a little bit small and lack of personality. Being the first time in Alta, I would have appriciated more information about the local attractions in the room.
Sorry to say but we did not enjoy staying at this hotel at all. No shampoo / conditioner, no lotion, no washcloth, no tissue in the bathroom. The room was clean but small and bed was not comfortable. Breakfast buffet was awful--no eggs. Can not recommend a stay here.
Scandic Alta is a fair hotel in the city center next to several restaurants and grocery stores. Rooms are small and a bit outdated. We asked for the swimming pool but were told that it was closed on Sunday! Breakfast was not at the level we expected, but most amazingly.... we had to pay to park the car outside the hotel in an open space!
We enjoyed this hotel. It is situated beside a mall and the beautiful Arctic Church. The rooms are a reasonable size for a Scandic with the usual minimal amenities. We are comfortable none the less. The buffet dinner was really good.
The hotel was centrally located next to the mall and several restaurants. The rooms were nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner buffet was good. Lots of variety and tasteful items as well.
The positive first: nice staff and good breakfast. But other than that not to recommend. Rooms not cleaned well, building worn down serving as a cashcow for tourists not returning again, rooms and lobby not nice at all, designed with very bad taste - which is especially in Scandinavia even more dissappointing.
