Parador de Albacete

We stayed at Albacete for one night on the journey from Parador de Lorca (which was really wonderful and I would fully recommend staying at). Albacete was comfortable and the breakfast was as usual for paradors excellent. When we went into the room it actually smelt like a previous guest had been smoking in there. I really don't know what the cause of the smell was. If I could speak Spanish then I may have gone back to reception and asked for a change of room. After opening the windows for a while the smell mostly cleared. The bathroom is a bit tired (and probably quite old) but it was perfectly OK and very clean. Albacete contains lots of original and old wooden furniture which I really liked. I read some reviews with people saying that Albacete was not a "true" parador. OK it's not a castle but so what! It is made very clear to those booking what Albacete is. The parador has some large gardens and a pool which looks like it could be nice in the summer months. It is also ideally located being quite close to the highway. Some people complain about the noise of the road but with the windows closed we heard almost nothing. I didn't really like the look of the evening menu so drove a few minutes down the road to Chinchilla where we found a nice local restaurant. Would I stay in this parador again? Yes certainly for a night or two en route. Would I stay for a week? Probably not. I have only stayed at one parador for a week and that was Benicarlo which is actually more like a resort hotel.

good sutiuated parador near the city of Albacete with great rooms and a balcony. Good service and a good restaurant. Good wine and tapas too. However, driving with GPS the parador is not easy to locate.

We stayed here one night as a journey break from the Parador de Almagro to home. So it was the contrasts with Almagro that we noticed - not a wonderful historic building, but larger, more comfortable bedrooms. And the whole place was much warmer. Big, rather impersonal bar; restaurant without a lot of ambiance. But there were lovely Christmas decorations everywhere, there was a charming table decoration with three candles on our table - nice touches not evident at Almagro. Even more important for me, the food was much better cooked and presented. The hotel needs a refurbish - the bathrooms are not impressive, cracked tiles, cranky old taps and the weird shower setup mentioned by several reviewers. A huge problem for Paradores, a lot of their properties need big money spending on them. Nevertheless, friendly staff, an enjoyable stay.

Tired building with poor facilities. The restaurant was not open and the experience of eating in the bar was not good due to the fact that the TVs was on making it difficult to read. Not enough maintenance of the outside spaces so they looked shabby.

Standard Parador facilities and services which we like. Have noticed that they changed the color of light bulbs from warm yellow to white cold in the Bar and other areas which changes the atmosphere and appeal of the room, corridors, etc. Suggest they return to the warm color and make it right. A very pleasant stay. Very nice welcoming staff. The rooms need updating but are comfortable. There is a good homely atmosphere and guests are made to feel welcome. Everything most satisfactory. Thank you very much.

This was our first stay at a Parador. The buildings and architecture couldn't be much more typically-Spanish. Polished red-tiled floors, dark wood furnishings, doors and windows and the buildings set out in a quadrangle round the garden and central (but empty) fountain. Nice large rooms and good bathrooms with bath and shower. Food in the hotel was good (very nice La Mancha 'selection' plate is worth trying). That said, food is very expensive, especially in the restaurant as opposed to the bar area (set menus at €29 and €45, and €16 for breakfast). Too high in my view. We opted to skip brekkie and stopped en route at a local café next to the motorway. Much better value. Overall, a decent hotel but at a price, especially if you eat in.

This Parador is in a great location just of the moterway, perfect when traveling north. The grounds are beautiful, the man on reception is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are large and clean and comfortble, but our bathroom needs a update. We have stayed here 3 times and always enjoyed our stays.

A very helpful and friendly receptionist took care of our question for a nice room not too far from the entrance. Information about the town itself and about the aria was supplied without even asking, what opened some unexpected opportunities. The service in the bar and restaurant was friendly and quick. The food in the restaurant was a small disappointment (a cold dinner was served in a large portion). In the bar a good dinner was served (a nice surprise out of the same kitchen). We had a nice stay.

So we finally got to stay in a Parador - I hope that the majority are better than this one! This was a one night stay on our way driving through Spain from Santander. We had a twin room on the ground floor overlooking the pitch and putt course. The room was spacious but the furnishings are all very dark, the floor is terracotta tiles, some of which are cracked. The bathroom also spacious but the towels were on their last legs and frayed at the edges. We didn't eat in the restaurant as the price was more than we wished to pay but we did enjoy our tapas meal in the bar. We slept well and the beds were comfortable and that is always a big plus and important. I thought that the breakfast was also adequate and enjoyable. Ample parking, quite a lot of noise from the low flying jets during the day and the swimming pool was shut. So overall - comfortable but I was hoping for more.
