The place is not in the center of Agrigento, however it is close to the valley of the temples - which I conclude is the main thing to see. Was picked up personally by the owner (a very cheerful chap) at the bus stop, so for my part distance-wise all was equal to being centrally located :) Nice big room, nice bath room, perfectly working wifi, also got some laundry done - no complaints!
For 55 euros for 3 people I think you would be hard pressed to get better value. Clean, modern, free wifi, free bicycle hire, lovely breakfast and good location. On top of this Domenico is friendly and very servient, and there is off street, secure parking for your car, and the most important part is a powerful shower with plenty of hot water, brilliant. Air con for the summer and heating in the winter. You are about 800 metres from the sea, and it could be a little interesting to find it without a gps but it's worth the effort.
Showed up and the owner was not there and not expecting us until the next day. Luckily I had written down the number and have an Italian cell phone just in case, as no one was there at the B&B. Granted it is offseason, but when we showed up the common room was in disarray and the room was not ready. The room was bare, uncomfortable, and cold. There was only one space heater and we were not convinced that would keep all three of us warm that night, so we ended up eating our deposit and not staying there. I'm sure this is a nice place to stay in the summer for its proximity to the beach, but since its december that was not high on our list of places to spend a lot of time anyway.
In our email we were told this place was 70 metres from the sea, its not. It was pretty basic with old furniture, an uncomfortable bed and towels you could sand a desk with. I'd give it a miss to be honest.
The B&B is a little hard to find if you do not have a GPS. It is located on a small street with inside parking. You need a car to stay here if you want to visit the temples and town, but you can walk to the ocean. The rooms are clean and adequate. Good for a one night stay or if you want to spend most of the time near the beach. Good value.
Great value - clean, well decorated room w/TV and AC. Inside parking. Great, warm, intelligent, lively host. Close to San Leone and attractions. Sparse breakfast (croissants, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea) but the price more than makes up for it!
First of all, it should be noted that in Agrigento the best hotels are far away (about 5 km) from the sea. It is ok in the winter, but in the summer the town is blazing hot and inhabitants run to stay in San Leone. Second: hotels here get really expensive if you have to stay in 3 or 4 people. Third: even if San Leone housing prices have skyrocketed in the past years, don't expect Wisteria Lane sights: this is Sicily and ugly houses are everywhere. Most were built illegaly, so expect streets to curve at impossible angles - no New York here. All this said, we picked a Bnb here bot for the location (close to the beach and to the center of San Leone) and for the price. We were proved right. The house, a nice little villa that offers 5 or 6 rooms, is well kept and costantly well maintained. Rooms and premises are clean, no frills. Suburbs are very quiet. There is a/c in all rooms, TV in some. Parking inside is not a bad thing, even many 4 star hotels do not have this option and it can be awkward if you are used to a German or American ordinate way of parking cars. We had a 3 bed room with access to a nice terrace. Breakfast was nice, again better than in many hotels, the host is nice and intelligent and speaks english well. He strives to be as helpful as he can, which is also worth admiring, especially in an area where there is no 'culture' for tourism. Definitely unbeatable for price/quality. Many bnb ask for much more money for probably lesser quality.
I stayed one night at this wonderful bed & breakfast in Agrigento called Villa Amico. It is located in the beach area of Agrigento called San Leone. It is a short walk to the sea and the promenade with bars and a restaurant. The room was very spacious and clean and there was private secure parking. The breakfast was cornetti and tea/coffee/juice in a nice breakfast room. The proprietor was a very nice young man. I would definitely stay there again.
The house and rooms are big by Italian standards. The bedding is as comfortable as you will get in Italy. Ask for extra blankets if you need them. This is a residential area so there are barking dogs and yelling children but I had no problem sleeping. We called Pierdomenico when we arrived in San Leone and he met us so we could follow him to the house. We had no problem finding our way to and from the house after that- it is about 1 mile and only 3 turns from the main street. We walked the well-lit route after dark with no problems. Parking is available inside the fence. Typical Italian breakfast. The B&B is 15-20 minute walk to a row of restaurants and a HUGE sandy beach. San Leone is a quick drive to the Valley of the Temples and a much better option than Agrigento.
My wife and I stayed here for two nights in our tour through Sicily. It is a very comfortable and well set up B&B with off street parking. the beach is within walking distance and Agrigento temples are easy to get to by car. Very friendly host who will meet you if you have trouble finding it. It is a bit hard but we found it without trouble. Good value.
