Located in the heart of Ærøskøbing’s historic old town centre, this first-floor flat is part of a complex dating back to around 1660. The interior's steeped in family history—from portraits by the renowned Danish artist Sven Havsteen-Mikkelsen to photographs of polar explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen in the hallway. Here, you’ll be surrounded by generations of history.
The first-floor flat's decorated with the family’s own artwork and portraits, which give the rooms a personal and lively character. The portraits capture the subjects’ personalities in a way that invites you to take a closer look. Rooms 1 and 5 each have their own bathroom, while Rooms 2, 3, and 4 share the bathroom in the hallway.
The original barn, which opens onto the large backyard, is still part of the complex. Collette designed the garden behind the property in an English style when she bought the house in 2007.
Right outside the door lies the old town square with two historic town wells and the café På Torvet. Den Gamle Købmandsgaard on the square combines a specialty shop, a farm shop, and a café featuring local Ærø products. Vester Strand, with its historic, protected bathhouses, is a short walk away, and the Ærø Museum organises evening tours with the night watchman during the summer.
