I am so happy to be in Slovenia and lucky to get the chance to visit Portorož. Although summer time passed but the place is lively. The weather was magnificent and sunny. The Grand Hotel is in a nice location overlooking the sea. It’s a bit old and room having a quite old furniture but it’s clean with acceptable space. Breakfast is Ok and with good variety. Staff are friendly and helpful. Needs to be refurnished. Overall not the best in category but you will like it .
Unfriendly staff Dirty roof pool Not working roof top jacuzzi The smelly room and broken balcony doors Want more? All this for price of 1000€ for 4 nights/5 days We obviously made a lovely choice this time :-(
Hotel isn´t exactly brand new (especially the rooms), but it is on a very good level as to all the matters. Very polite and professional staff, beautiful common facilities, pools and spa area (although I would welcome one pool with colder water, there was really no place to refresh yourself, water in every pool was very warm). Spa area with terrace with outdoor pool and deckcahirs is on first floor of the hotel, so you can go there by a lift in your rope. Also everything very nicely organized, like chip bracelets to the spa area, sauna centre etc. When we arrived, we got suite instead of simple room, which we paid for, since there was availability, so we had great two-room, very spacious and very nice suite with two balconies at our disposal. We also tried the sauna centre, which for hotel guests is 12 euro/person and at this price you get really great selection of saunas and other facilities, the complex suprised me with its complexity. Breakfasts were also very good, so overall I would recommend this hotel to those, who like high standard. I wouldn´t recommend it to those, who are looking for "value for money" or like modern, simple interiors.
Beautiful and well kept hotel with amazing SPA facilities. The staff is really friendly and helpful and you kind of feel like at home here. Well located so you can forget about the car and do everything by feet. Walks around Portorož, a bit longer walk by the sea to amazing Piran. Plus you have some really nice shops close.
Everything in this hotel is of high quality, also rooms are spacious, air-conditioned. Breakfast offers great choice of international food, also vegans & vegetarians can easily select their breakfast menu. I believe true value of this hotel is the staff, professional and friendly. They create wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that sometimes lacks in many high stars hotels.
I've chosen a nice double room with a queen bed, balcony and sea view. Amenties include shampoo, shower gel, vanity setl and shower cap. The room offers safe deposit box, bath robe, slippers, tv, mini-bar, shoe cleaning sponge; tea pot is not provided. The free entrance to the thermal water swimming pool is included in the price with not tiime limitation. In order to have access to the beach facilities, the guest needs to pay extra (for umbrella and beach chair). I find it especially beneficial to have vacations on the sea shore supported by the relaxation in SPA complex available at LifeClass Hotels in Portoroz.
Nine-night hol for my wife and I which, all said and done, turned out alright. Portoroz is (in my mind) a purpose made resort for holiday makers. It has a public sandy beach which we happily used as well as the so-called "Exclusive Medusa" beach which, as hotel guests, secured us a free beach towel and sunbed and parasol always with the willing help of the Medusa attendants. Reasonable prices in the numerous taverns and restaurants (e.g. delicious gelato €1.2-6). The sea water was apparently about 26 degrees - certainly warm enough to dip/swim in which I enjoyed everyday. Frequent local buses between Portoroz and the delightful Piran - an outstanding European 'old town' - which deserves at least one visit at only €1.5 each way. We also used Portoroz as a base to do excursions to Trieste in Italy and Rovinj in Croatia which we easily organised ourselves. Both are great especially Rovinj where I jumped off rocks into deep blue warm sea before dinner on a cliff-edge restaurant, it was wonderful. The hotel was fine. The food in particular was, I thought, actually excellent in terms of variety and quality - e.g. always different meats, fish and pasta all done to a very high standard - as well as being tasty!! As a guest of the Grand you had free access to the Therme swimming pool complex which was good. We didn't try the terrace pool which looked shallow and had a loud 'fountain' in it. Why not five stars? Firstly, Portoroz was noisey until the early hours and we did wonder if the sound proofing around the outside balcony doors etc could have been better. That said, it was the middle of July .... so it wasn't entirely unreasonable for their to be loud music which, in fairness, only disturbed us on two of our nine nights. Secondly, we had notifed - with evidence - the relevant booking agency some personal requests (and why we were making the requests) which we had believed the agency to understand would be accommodated. But upon our arrival, the hotel didn't initially honour and it got a bit unnecessarily difficult. However a senior manager agreed a compromise which we were grateful for - and our thanks to her again. Hope this helps. DJ
This hotel is a great choice for those who like to enjoy excellent spas and (indoor) pools. Rooms are clean and spacious. The restaurant offers a large variety of meals (I recommend taking the half board service). The location is excellent, just in front of the beach, but you should consider visiting Piran and Isola, which are much more beautiful towns than Portoroz.
Porto row does not have in itself a huge amount of activities. .. but if you are happy with the beach and glorious sunshine, this is the place to relax. Very comfortable hotel ... but drink prices far to high - walk literally across the street and save yourself 50 % Lubijana is just over an hour away and easy to this lively and accessible city. The magnificent caves is another excursion you must do ... tip top experience with every amenity. An hour and a half into Pula in Croatia ... a beautiful Romania town which is so much the trip.
While the Grand hotel does have a pool, it also has a lovely waterfront area across the road. Overall, as a destination, Portoroz is safe, clean and welcoming. The restaurants and cafes are pleasant and reasonable. There is a terrific spread of food for breakfast and what it could do with is some good coffee. The coffee machines produce a type of instant coffee.However.there are good cafes along the promenade.
