I stayed 3 days in the Sheraton hotel in Addis Ababa and it's unlike any other Sheraton I've stayed in. From the first time you enter the front gate and see the police sitting off to the side with their AK-47, you realize this is a relative island of luxury in a sea of poverty. The hotel seems to have a lot of security people, including government security people. When I went for a walk on their small jogging trail, two of the hotel employees questioned if I was staying in the hotel. One of them wanted me to show him my hotel key to prove I was staying there. This hadn't happened in any other luxury hotel I stayed in on 3 different continents. This is a resort and it has a pool that's popular with families since you'll hear kids playing and swimming in the pool during the day. At night, you'll hear something else, the loud music from the band and night club until late into the night. My room was on the 2nd floor of the west wing of the U-shaped hotel and it was very loud every night we stayed here. If you want to sleep before midnight, you don't want to stay in this part of the hotel. There is a good Indian restaurant on the compound, but it's very expensive. This is the bet part of the hotel, but I guess I had too high expectations for this Sheraton. If you like to exercise, there is an outdoor gym with equipment under an sun roof.
This is the best hotel in Addis Ababa!! I was there for a business lounge with my company colleagues and four other guests that were in the hotel as guests. We had our lunch at the garden and we enjoyed the buffet that was more than complete with any kind of food, dessert and fruits!!! From our guests there we heard the best about the hotel, for the rooms the personnel and mostly for the facilities. Totally recommended!!
We were only there for a night after a long flight in from the USA...but the accommodations were good, food good, a solid pick! The rooms were high end by American standards with a nice king bed, cable TV and Wifi. The restaurant was very nice, great bfast buffet!
We actually didn’t stay here but use the pool twice during our three-week visit to Addis. If you’re parent with kids and just need a day with pizza and pool (and a few adult drinks)... this is definitely the spot! Enjoy.
I stayed at the Sheraton 3 years ago and had a great stay. Even though it is ridiculously priced I decided to stay here again. This time I was with my wife and wanted to show her the hotel. It is without doubt the best hotel in Addis with sitting in great splendour and the gardens are beautiful. The pool area, bar and service by all is superb. However, I was a little disappointed this time around due to the following: 1. The F&B has really gone down. We had a business lunch in the Indian and it was bland, no taste, surly service and no atmosphere. We also ate in the Italian at night and the food was very poor. 2. We upgraded to an Executive Room and it was very small, it had a small patio but no chairs to enjoy the view. The lounge was good though. 3. An as Imentioned before the prices have sky rocketed. However, it is a fine hotel in all other areas, we enjoyed the live band at night time too. Go here if you want the luxury but eat out in Addis!,
This hotel would meet 5 start standards any where in the world but it's in Africa..so even better. Service is great (especially the butler with coffee in the morning) Rooms lovely Pool beautiful Food OK, the buffet gets old quickly but the Italian restaurant was nice
I had a nice stay at the Sheraton - it is an over-the-top beautiful yet somewhat dated hotel. The rooms are nice though they do have more nicks and scratches in the furniture and paint than you would expect. The hair dryer is hidden in a drawer in the bathroom that doesn't look at all like a drawer - easy enough to find once they tell you there is a drawer in the bathroom. The power went out several times, but the hotel has a backup generator so it came back on fairly quickly. They do have a brand new gym, outdoors (open air) near the pool. All those TripAdvisor reviews complaining about that may have done the trick!
Saturday we went with Ethiopian friends to the Sheraton. Surprise my friend said as I wasn’t really dressed for the occasion. Shorts, T-shirt and hikingshoes. The blackforest cake was great and the tea perfect. The pianoplayer improvised a bit and we had a great time. Lovely place!
The hotel looks old but is really luxirious, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Everyone has a smile on the face. The rooms are big with many accessories available, the room service has an SLA of less than 30min delivery otherwise they pay. Very nice swimming pool biut no indoor one. The garden is awesome
I have stayed here the times now in the last three months. It is a luxurious hotel were you are well taken care of. There are good restaurants and a very nice pool area. The service by the pool is way too slow though. They have a potential for improvement there.
