When I visited, I was told that the hotel was under renovation. The reception area is quite nice but my room smelled musty, the pillowcases smelled of someone else's cologne (so I guessed the bedding had not been changed), and the bathroom was terrible. I complained about the bedding and got a new set which I had to reject because it had stains. I stayed in the Open Plan Suite, and there was no hot water. On the whole, I had a terrible stay and definitely didn't get any value for my money. I hope that they have been able to solve those problems with the renovation, but they need to also hire competent housekeeping and maintenance staff.

I had not been to Hawthorn for about two years and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was under renovation. I was not happy though that the pool was not functional because the pool at Hawthorn is one of its comparative advantages in Abuja. I hope they can get it functional again and to a higher standard and not the reverse. The rooms are better fitted and the complicated shower has been replaced with simpler showers - there is no longer a tub in the room I stayed. The internet is still okay though there have introduced a charge if you want to use the internet for a longer period than the two hourly cap which requires you to keep logging in each time your two hours expire. The quality of customer service is variable. In general I think customer service less responsive despite the improvements in infrastructure. However, if you can ask for what you exactly want you are likely to get it. The food is of average quality with both national and international options.

The good: Service! these guys are courteous and very helpful. Very rare in Abuja hotels (yup!); also, the rooms were a delight to behold... on a par with hotels twice as expensive, IMHO. I stayed in a mini-suite with a kitchenette and microwave and stuff. Quite roomy. The bathroom.. yup, classy and delightful! The restaurant was also VERY NICE. The bad: A few annoying bits... a few light bulbs had to be fixed in the room ... the TV was an old annoying LCD thingy...

Rooms are nice and quite spacious. Staff is courteous and always ready to assist. There is not much choice/variety for breakfast. Free WiFi is slow and not regular. You will have to pay for faster WIFI connection. Hotel is under renovation so no pool and no gym. Location is ok with a supermarket and some restaurants within walking distance. The hotel has drivers and cars available if needed, which is quite convenient if you don’t want to take the local taxis

Spacious Room with no issues at all, staff is friendly and willing to help at all hours. It is obvious when the renovations are done the hotel is going to be a top selection in Abuja with a big pool to follow

I totally enjoyed my stay. It reminds me of hotels in London. My husband had lunch there and insisted that we stayed in Hawthorn suites because of the food. He was right. The food was delicious. The downside was that though we can as a couple, only one person can have breakfast. That should be worked on. Couples should be entitled to breakfast.

The website is misleading, everything it says on the website is not true at the hotel. Its undergoing renovations. One would think it should be mentioned on the website, First impression is that its comfortable, Until you've booked in. The room is clean and acceptable, and that's where it stops. Not all the TV channels work or tuned in properly There is a coffee machine in the room, but NO coffee granules to make coffee. Complimentary water lasts 2 days, then they don't replenish Wifi is free, but be warned, its extremely slow. you have to pay for a faster connection. The food choices at breakfast is terrible, granted is caters for the local visitor, but not for an international guest. Don't drink the coffee, its mixed with the tea. Drink instant coffee instead. They run out of stock and the staff shrug their shoulders and say they don't know. They ran out of butter, Really Butter who runs out of butter. There is a basic dinner menu, again most of what's on the menu is where it stays, on the menu. You get the standard reply, OUT OF STOCK, WE DONT HAVE. You don't even get offered an alternative For those who like an alcoholic beverage, STAY AWAY. this establishment does not serve alcohol. I can go on and on and on. In short rather stay at the Sheraton or Hilton The website is misleading, everything it says on the website is not true at the hotel. Its undergoing renovations. One would think it should be mentioned on the website,

Hawthorne Suites service was similar to what is obtainable outside the country. Would suggest that ongoing renovation work is concluded in good time. I would recommend the hotel to anyone seeking for lodging in Abuja

Rooms are large but standard of rooms is very very low. Carpets are heavily stained. Corners are full of dust and dirt. I asked for change of room since i could not stay in such a dirty room - and I am used to a lot. I got a two floor suit, cleanliness was a bit better but still 2* standard. Food is very substandard. Staff tried all to make the stay of 2 nights bearable, well done. For the price of >200 USD per room a 2* facility that is even dirty???

The hotel definitely needs some maintenance and sprucing up: while probably lovely originally, everything is now old and worn, although fine for short stays. The furniture is worn, and the shower in my room didn't work well, but it was functional enough for the week I was there. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are good and have a variety of options, dinner options are also good, but service is very slow.
