Terau Beach Bungalows offer a traditional I-Kiribati experience on the beautiful, unspoilt island of Abaiang. Kaboua and Tinaai are passionate about their little eco resort and along with their staff, went out of their way to make our week long stay, as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Nothing was too much trouble for them, serving up lovely meals, transport when requested and even cool drinks from a local shop. Accommodation is a traditional style hut over the lagoon, with a small balcony to watch the rising and ebbing tides and to take in the gorgeous sunsets. A mattress on the floor of the hut, a mosquito net (we didn't really require) and open shutters to catch the breeze, although not luxury 'resort' style rooms with modern comforts, we easily adapted, sleeping well and comfortably. The communal toilet/shower facilities are a short distance from the huts and a large eating area (maneaba) offers lovely views across the lagoon. Terua Beach is close to the airport, (transfers by motorbike) in the middle of Abaiang. Motorbikes are available for hire to explore the island, passing the many villages, schools and churches as well as shrines and landmarks. It takes an hour to travel to each end. Highly recommend the islet trip by motorboat for a swim and snorkel in the crystal clear waters then across toa local village for a wonderful, traditional dance performance. Kaboua and Tinaai were warm and welcoming hosts. We will most certainly return in the near future.

There is no words to describe the divine atmosphere of the resort. Magnificent beach, crystal blue waters, amazing and affordable bumgalows, tasty food... and cherry om the cake, our adorable hosts didnt only organize activities with local people, they also helped us get a seat on the plane while we were stuck om the island because of a defective boat. Couldnt dream of a better stay. Thank you !

Amazing spot on the lagoon of Abaiang, lovely owners and staff, beautiful and simple accommodation made of local trees, delicious organic food (which is not easy on such an island). Koboua and his wife organized us activities, motorbike renting and even helped us to go back to Tarawa by plane so that we do not miss our flight for Fiji. It feels like family here. Thank you!

I have traveled a bit already but I can easy say that Terau Beach on Abaiang is my top favorite! The setting, hosts, food and island it self are truly amazing! The hosts make you feel welcome, take care of you in every way and are super friendly and happy! Thank you so much!

We had a fantastic weekend at Terau beach resort. The beds were really comfortable, the location so picturesque and peaceful, and the meals were fresh, varied and delicious. Our hosts were generous, friendly and informative and it was great to witness their commitment to sustainable development. We would have loved to stay longer, and hope to return.

Terau Beach Bungalow is one of the best places I have ever been to. With beautiful hosts and definately best food in Kiribati, I would recomend this place to anyone. The only noise we could hear at night was the sea waves. The price is very reasonable and worth every stay. The place is very safe and have lots or healthy organic foods. Kaboua and Tinai, the owners of this place are a gem of people. Thank you to both for making my stay a memorable one.

Terau Beach Bungalow is an experience not to be missed. The bungalows come equipped with balconies and their own pier. It is so wonderful to hear the water churning underneath as you contemplate on the balcony or sleep on comfortable matts under a mosquito net. The bungalows are build on stilts and stay well above the water. The host and hostess are just delightful. They go out of their way to cater to your every need. Meals are offered and I highly recommend you partake because the food is absolutely delicious. (Actually better then some 5 star restaurants.) Most of the food is grown here and lovingly prepared. The only negative is leaving.

Terau beach bengalow is a lovely retreat in Kiribati, away from the business of South Tarawa. The setting is wonderful, with bengalows overlooking the turquoise lagoon. However, what I enjoyed most was Kaboua and Tsinai's enthusiasm and energy; they are wonderful hosts, keen to give their guests a great experience and improve their business, and also drivers of their community. They cooked with locally grown vegetables and ingredients, and these meals were delicious and healthy, which is rare in this part of the world. The pancakes with coconut for breakfast in particular were a treat! Just be cautious though: this is a rustic place, with outdoor bathrooms. However, if you come to Abaiang, you should expect this.

When I arrived in Tarawa I didn‘t like it at all, but a two hours boat ride brought me to these Beach Bungalows in Abaiang and it felt like arriving in paradise. The owners were extremely friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious, the bungalows comfortable, and the beach nice too. And the prices are very fair! Great place to relax for a few days, go on snorkelling trips or walk around to the villages. Can highly recommend this place!

Enjoyed three nights at this beautiful tropical paradise. The natural landscape invigorates the senses and relaxes the mind drawing the body into a peaceful calm. The bungalows are not an insulated resort but has tentacles which support the whole village. For instance the locally grown fresh food served up in the traditional thatched maneaba. The family owned and run bungalows is the definition of eco tourism, supporting and offering opportunity to people in Abaiang. I will miss the beautiful lagoon, colourful sunset and gracious hosts at this tropical paradise.
