At $400 a night you can pretty much have your pick of New York‘s coolest hotels. If you’ve got $300 clams to throw around the window narrows but it can still be done—easily. But if you’re thinking under $200 nightly is as rare as a mellow New Yorker, think again. Here are five (technically six) radar-worthy budget chic hotels. For more great New York hotels deals, check out our US Cities sale, May 11–31, 2015.

Gatsby Hotel
In New York City it’s all about location, location and location and the 45-room Gatsby Hotel has an enviable one as it rubs shoulders with both the Lower East Side and the East Village and is also within walking distance of SoHo and Nolita. This slender charmer prides itself on affordability while not sacrificing creature comforts. Amenities include complimentary Wireless internet, flat-screen LED TVs and 24-hour business services. Best part of all? It’s only a stone’s throw from legendary Katz’s Deli.

The OUT NYC
We’ve discovered prices for as low as $139 a night at this stylish and upbeat Hell’s Kitchen winner but there’s a catch: The bargain rooms are bunk style which means you’ll be sharing a single room with up to three other lodgers. Don’t like your new roomies? Instead, spend all your time at the hotel’s amazing Great Lawn where you can soak up the sun, play a game of ping pong, watch a movie under the stars or relax in one of two hot tubs. The sleek OUT NYC caters to the LGBT community, but is widely enjoyed and frequented by all.

The Hotel 17
You will adore the phenomenal location at this cozy Euro-style boutique charmer—just steps away from Union Square and a short walk from the East Village. Rooms at the Hotel 17 are small but comfortable and although bathrooms are shared, each room does have its own sink so at least you don’t have to fight for mirror timeto brush your soldiers in the morning. Bonus: Several scenes from Woody Allen’s 1993 comedy Manhattan Murder Mystery were filmed here.

The Pod Hotels
Midtown East “micro-hotels” Pod 51 and Pod 39 are marvels of efficiency. Rooms are compact to besure, but bathrooms are ensuite and there is still enough space leftover to store your things (we’ve slept two here comfortably), plus there’s plenty of elbow room in the lobbies or “playrooms” and each property boasts a rooftop deck for relaxing or gathering vitamin D. We’ve watched prices creep up steadily over the years, but rooms at or below $150 still exist.

Row Hotel
Somebody pinch us. Is there really a Midtown Manhattan hotel just steps away from Times Square where playful and modern rooms are priced around $170/night? Apparently there is. Accommodations at Row NYC are affordable yet also chic (think white linens and whimsical murals above the beds with sayings like “Lights out”) and the location just a couple blocks from the beating heart of Times Square is kind of unbelievable we’re not going to lie.
