Journey into the desert for a night spent at the windswept outpost of Zagora. Ride camels across the sand dunes to watch the sun sink down, sleep under the stars at a traditional nomadic bivouac, and lose yourself in the earthen alleys of the atmospheric kasbahs Ait-Ben-Haddou and Telouet.
Day 1: Rise early and leave Marrakech behind as you traverse the peaks and valleys of the High Atlas in a sturdy 4x4 vehicle. Catch glimpses of traditional Berber villages perched on the mountainside, and descend to Ouarzazate. Stop for lunch, and then continue on, crossing over a high mountain pass to reach the town of Adgdz in the Draa Valley. From there, head offroad, driving along the old caravan route and learning about life in the desert on your way to Zagora. Arrive amid the endless dunes of this fabled desert outpost, and wrap up your day with an unforgettable camel ride to view the sunset and a delicious meal at the bivouac. Spend the night cozied up under a tent in true nomadic fashion.
Day 2: Wake up in time to catch the sunrise over the dunes and after breakfast make your way to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait-Ben-Haddou, an awe-inspiring ksar of red earth kasbahs and fortifications that's appeared in countless Hollywood blockbusters. Hear what daily life was like here when traders passed through on the old Salt Road. Visit the Telouet Kasbah, a poetic ruin that was once the opulent residence of the Lords of the Atlas, before returning to Marrakech before dark.
