The Manhattan Project tour provides a fascinating insight into the vast scale of the Manhattan Project and the life of Robert Oppenheimer. Join NY See Tours to explore Manhattan's Upper West Side and discover the city's atomic history. During the tour, you will visit the birthplace of Dr. Oppenheimer, known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb,” and the sites of the Manhattan Project's origins.

The Manhattan Project, which led to the creation of the atomic bomb, began in Lower Manhattan in mid-June 1942 when General Leslie Groves established its first office. Dr. Oppenheimer was appointed the project's scientific director in the same year. Along with his team of brilliant scientists and engineers, he oversaw the construction and testing of the first atomic bomb at Los Alamos.

Columbia University was the site of some of the earliest experimental work on the Manhattan Project. The work was pioneered by Enrico Firmi, John Dunning, I.I Rabi and many others.
Pupin Hall

The Pupin Physics Lab is a National Historic Landmark where the early experiments on nuclear fission were carried out. One of the first cyclotrons was built there. It was removed in 2007
Firemen's Memorial

A walk down beautiful Riverside Drive, encompassing a stop at the Fireman's Memorial, The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and other landmarks. Riverside Drive was designed by the same men who designed Central Park and Riverside Park. It has a timeless quality and is little changed from when it was constructed.
